REMI NEEDS YOUR HELP 💔

Remi has been with us for 130 days and while that may not be as long as some others, every one of those days has been a struggle 😢

Some dogs do well in care. They settle into the routine, adapt to the environment, and find joy in those around them. Sadly, Remi is not one of those dogs. Over the past few weeks, the stress and uncertainty have taken a serious toll, and we’ve watched her spirit begin to fade.

As you can imagine shelter life isn't easy. It’s loud, unfamiliar, and a far cry from the warmth and stability of a loving home. For a dog who has only known the comfort of such a home, the experience can be incredibly distressing 😞

We know times are tough, but we also know that someone out there can give Remi the chance to rediscover the happy, loving dog she is at heart. She needs patience, understanding, and a quiet place to call her own—and most of all, she needs you 🙏

If you can open your heart and home to Remi, or if you know someone who can, please reach out. She needs her person now more than ever. Together, we can help her leave the shelter behind and step into the life she truly deserves ❤️

ARCHIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED ❤️

Archie’s wait was a long one, but boy, did he hit the jackpot! Not only does he have a new home where he’s loved and adored, but also gained a new best friend, Benji—a fellow Maremma and the brother he never knew he needed 🥰

The two are completely inseparable. They nap side by side, claim the best spots in the sun, and team up to ensure no crumb is left behind. Life with Archie and Benji is one big, fluffy playdate, full of endless antics and contagious joy 🙌

Archie’s new life is everything he could have hoped for and more. He’s proof that sometimes, all you need is the right family—and the best partner in crime—to make life extraordinary.

Here’s to the adventures of Archie and Benji, and to the family who loves them more than they love each other ❤️

PUPPIES AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION ❤️

These beautiful German Shepherd puppies are as sweet as they come. Born into the same litter, they’ve shared everything—snuggles, playtime, and even a few clumsy tumbles as they’ve learned to navigate their big paws and wobbly ears 😌

But as you can imagine, being a tiny puppy in a big wide world isn’t easy. It’s an unfamiliar place filled with many strange sights, sounds and smells. Each day, they do their best to be brave—holding back from jumping at loud noises, staying calm when new things come their way, and trying hard to trust the hand that reaches out to them.

They’ve stuck together through thick and thin, and now they’re ready to find someone who will love them just as much as they’ve loved each other. Someone who will be patience, kind and help them see that the world isn’t so scary after all ❤️

On 29 June 2023, a Parliamentary Inquiry was established to investigate and report on pounds across New South Wales, focusing on a range of critical issues.

RSPCA NSW provided a detailed submission and gave evidence before the Committee, based on our extensive experience working with the Office of Local Government, pound facilities across the state, and fulfilling our enforcement obligations under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 (NSW) (POCTAA or the Act). In our submission, we proposed 13 recommendations, including: urgent review of POCTAA, it’s associated Regulations and Codes of Practice, the development and implementation of mandatory welfare standards for pounds and shelters, increased resourcing for targeted, free desexing programs, outreach initiatives in rural and regional areas, and better support for semi-owners of cats.

We also emphasised the need for modernised council pound facilities, training for staff in animal behaviour and welfare, and addressing veterinary industry shortages to improve access to care and ensure the successful rehoming of companion animals. Following the inquiry the Committee released a report containing 24 recommendations. In advance of the Government's reply, read RSPCA NSW response the recommendations here:

Poorly Drawn Pets is back by popular demand!✏️🐾

Love animals? Want to support in a different way? We've got the opportunity for you!

We're putting the 'fun' back in fundraising with Poorly Drawn Pets. This creative and quirky fundraiser will help us to raise much needed funds for animals in need across NSW 🎨

For a small donation, people will be able to submit a photo of their pet (or pets) and with the help of volunteers like you, get a good (or not so good..) drawing of their pet sent back to them for Valentines Day!💌

That's where we need your help. In order to make this fundraiser a success, we need some artists (of all skill levels) to help out by volunteering their time, as well as their great (or not so great) drawing skills 🙏

If you are able to commit your time to help us, please register your details via the link below 👇

SPOTTED: Queen B Finding Her Happily Ever After 👑❤️

Hey Upper East Siders, have we got some news for you! Our very own Blair has finally found her forever home, and let’s just say, her journey has been nothing short of heart-warming 🥰

Flashback to when Blair made her grand debut—arriving in care with her siblings Chuck and Serena, weighing in at a mere 300g. Tiny, fragile, and in need of round-the-clock TLC, this trio scored big with their incredible foster family, who gave them all the love and support they needed to thrive 🙌

While Chuck and Serena were scooped up before the New Year, Queen B had to wait just a little longer for her perfect match. But patience is a virtue, and when her new family walked in, it was love at first sight. From holding her new mum’s hand on the way home (how sweet!) to embracing all the cuddles, toys, and love her forever home has to offer, Blair is now living her best life ✨

And here’s the inside scoop: every day, tiny kittens like Blair come into care, and foster carers are the unsung heroes giving them a chance to shine. Want to be part of a fairy tale like this? Consider becoming a foster carer—it’s the ultimate act of love.

XOXO,

STORMS AND HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED ⛈️💨

With thunderstorms predicted across NSW this week, it’s important to make sure our furry friends stay safe and calm during the wild weather.

⚠️ Most importantly, a secure collar with ID and an up-to-date microchip are your pet's best chance of being reunited with you if they do become lost during a storm. You can also:

✔️ Create a Safe Space
Set up a cosy, quiet area with their favourite blanket or toy.

✔️ Offer Comfort
Stay calm and provide gentle reassurance to help them feel safe.

✔️ Secure Your Yard
Check fences and gates to prevent any escape attempts.

✔️ Distract & Engage
Use toys, treats, or games to keep them occupied and ease their anxiety.

✔️ Consult your vet
If your pet experiences severe anxiety, talk to your vet about options like medication to help reduce stress.

During storms and unexpected weather, we see far too many lost pets without proper identification. Together we can work to keep our companions safe at home where they belong ❤️

We all need a helping hand at some point in life ❤️

For Brandy, that hand could be yours. You see, this shy young pup carries the weight of the world on her gentle shoulders, longing for someone to help lighten the load 😞

After arriving in care through no fault of her own, she was met with a whirlwind of new faces, sights, sounds and smells. A daunting and incredibly overwhelming experience for any dog, especially those as sweet as Brandy.

But as time passed, Brandy realised she was in safe hands. Her curious little nose ventured toward new scents, and her soft eyes reflected a glimmer of hope. While she’s still a bit wary at times, deep down she knows this is just the beginning—a stepping stone on the path to a forever home of her own 🙌

Brandy has so much to give, but needs someone to believe in her. Someone who sees the potential in her shy smile and understands that with a little patience, she’ll blossom into the most loving companion anyone could ever ask for ❤️

We’d love for you to meet her, because we already know you will love her as much as we do.

Want to help them achieve their dreams? A fresh start with a loving home could be just what they need to make this year their best one yet 🙌

Do your pet’s have any New Year’s resolutions of their own? We’d love to hear what they’re working on! 💪

04/01/2025

With temperatures rising today, if you’re not sure whether it’s too hot to walk your dog, just follow the 5-second rule 🖐🐶

Simply place the back of your hand on a surface for five seconds. If you can’t handle the heat, your dog can’t either and it would be best to wait till things cool down before venturing out 🚶‍♀

Your dog can easily overheat when walking in the warmer weather. Dogs cool themselves through their paws and by panting. They simply can’t do this if the ground and air is too hot! 🥵

To avoid burning your pooch’s pads, try walking early in the morning before the pavement has heated up or later at night on cooler grassed areas 🌿

If you think your pet has overheated or is suffering from heat related issues, call an RSPCA veterinary hospital or your local veterinarian immediately.

⚠️HEAT WARNING: IT’S GONNA BE A HOT ONE!

Temperatures are set to soar over the next couple of days! Living in NSW means there’s lots of sun and fun, but also a few dangers for you and your furry friends to think about. Check out our top tips below!

💦 HYDRATE – Ensure your pets have access to plenty of cool, fresh water at all times.

🏖️ COOL OFF IN THE SHADE – Make sure your pet has access to shade and, if possible, consider bringing them inside if you have air conditioning or a fan.

🐾 WAIT TO WALK – Avoid taking your pooch for a walk during the middle of the day when temperatures peak. Remember: if you can’t leave your hand on the pavement for longer than 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your pooch. Just like people, animals can hurt their feet on hot surfaces too!

🌞 BE SUN SAFE – Slip, slop, slap! Especially if your pet is white, as they have a higher risk of skin cancer. Make sure to pop on some doggy sunscreen or zinc if going out in the sun and keep your kitties indoors.

❄️ CONSIDER FREEZING TREATS – Letting your pets play with frozen ice cubes is a fun way to help them cool down. You can also freeze some treats overnight in a container of water and let your pets lick them free! Kibble and dry treats work best with this trick!

❌ DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS IN THE CAR – It can only take 6 minutes for a dog to die in a hot car. Never leave your pets unattended in a car.

If you believe your pet is experiencing any health problems as a result of heat, please contact your local veterinarian as soon as possible.

Meet Pudding, who is looking to find her forever home! 🏠

This gentle spirit has been waiting day by day, sitting by her window, gazing out with hopeful eyes, dreaming of a loving home where she can truly thrive. 🏡💖

Pudding may be a bit shy at first, but don’t let that fool you, this beautiful girl has an incredible heart just waiting to share with her loved ones! When she opens up, she is full of affection, she yearns to share her cuddles and soft purrs with a kind human who will allow her to show her sweet nature.

For too long, Pudding has watched other pets find their families, waiting for that lucky moment when someone sees her for the gentle companion she is. We hope she finds that special person who can bring warmth and joy into her life. She will need a quiet household without kids under 12, where she can feel safe and cherished.

If you have space in your heart and home for a sweet girl like Pudding, please consider adopting her. 🐱💖

🐾Check out our amazing foster carer Nicole’s adorable foster kittens! 🐾💕

Fostering is a rewarding experience that not only changes the lives of these precious animals but also enriches your own. RSPCA NSW’s Foster Care program provides temporary homes to animals who need a helping hand. This might be because these animals are too small or young to be adopted, recovering from illness or surgery, are undergoing rehabilitation, or even just finding the shelter environment too stressful.

By joining our foster care program, you can provide a temporary haven for animals in need, helping them grow and flourish until they find their forever families. Our foster care program is a beautiful reminder of the difference we can all make.
