Harry was in his first dust up at the dog park yesterday with another male Kelpie of a similar age. He didn’t start the fight but he did defend himself.

Dogs start to display protective behaviour between one to three years of age. This can easily turn into aggression at the dog park.

I’ve heard a few people say ‘oh don’t worry, they’ll sort it out, they’re dogs’. The tone changes completely if it results in blood drawn and a trip to the vets or worse still, a report to council.

Fletch could be very aggressive and I learned quickly to take him seriously and not shrug it off as canine behaviour. That was how I kept him safe and not in the cross hairs of the council. Not to mention avoiding the trauma it imposed on the poor dogs he took to task.

Harry got lots of cuddles last night because he was quite subdued and this morning he had a playdate with his bestie Bandit. I wanted to reinforce safe, fun and positive behaviour with a friend he has had a long term relationship with. 🐾❤️🐾

Making new friends and spending time in connection is so critically vital to our wellbeing.

Studies have proven that loneliness is just as bad for humans as smoking.

Those of us with dogs have a unique opportunity to get out there and socialize with other guardians while our doggo’s also make new friends.

Remember no one felt less lonely by staying home more. Move your body, reset your mind and spend time in nature which nurtures your soul.

This is Harry’s mate Bandit. They met at the dog park and now we have a standing date with Bandit and his guardian John every Wednesday morning ❤️🐾🥳

Today we launch 🌟FLETCH'S FLASHBACK FRIDAY'S 🌟 (Fletch approx 4yrs old here)

He was my best friend and soul mate and my heart hurts every time I see him. I've been told (and heck said it myself) that grief is not a linear journey. These past few months I've sat in the big non-linear hole and lost myself a little or a lot.

If you've lost a member of your fur-family, you might agree that the grief comes in waves and round-a-bouts. Just when you think the tears have dried up, Apple sends you a photo memory or you find yourself scrolling through videos of them. Their aliveness cuts you to your core and the grief comes crashing in like a king tide. Why did he have to leave me? Why do I have to do this life thing without him?

Adopting Harry, I felt like I had to push my grief to a side, not aside, just to be fair to him. The poor kid has lived under Fletch's shadow since he came home. He sleeps in his bed, wears his pyjamas and drinks from his bowl. He's surrounded by photos of Fletch, and this morning, half asleep, I accidentally said “Good morning Fletch” as Harry's little eyes stared into mine.

SO. I am introducing Fletch Fridays so that I can dedicate a day for Fletch, to honour and remember the love of my life for 10 years.

Having a day each week to celebrate and grieve (according to my therapist) will provide a space for me to embrace my grief and my memories with Fletch. It gives me a dedicated space for it to be 'OK', where I don't need to feel guilty for Harry.

Harry got his very own fleece-lined, oil-skinned coat from Fair Dinkum Dogs this week. That was Mumma's way of saying 'sorry little man. I can love you and miss your big brother at the same time. Here's something Fletch never had that is all yours!

Don’t get me wrong, I have fallen head over heels in love with Harry. Harry is the best thing to come into my life after losing half of my heart.

And…I also miss you Fletch Boy. Every single minute, of every single day. You made life a beautiful, joyful and hectic place. Chase all the dragonflys over the rainbow sweet boy and one day, I'll see your sweet face again 🌈❤🐾

This is Beautiful, she’s a dingo x husky and we are trying to rehome her after she was surrendered by a young man who is homeless because of the cost of living crisis.

If you’re a friend, can you please share this post. Shes located in NSW. Beautiful is currently sheltering at a vet. I spent yesterday on the phone and all the shelters are full, some with 8 month waiting lists

Below is all the information we have been given on her….literally a cut and paste ❤️‍🩹🐾🙏

Not sure of her backstory, I think she has been rehomed twice. Her original name was “Beautiful” which she responds better to.
The most recent owner was living in the city so she didn’t really have a yard and he is now homeless, that’s why he needs to rehome. She was an escape artist but I think that’s due to incorrect housing, not so much her.
She was also pregnant when she came to us (very early along) she has since been spayed. Unsure of vaccination/worming status.
She is very sweet, she is timid but great with people.
She is cautious around dogs, does know basic commands and will recall.

She seems to be quite young as well, healthy and in great condition.
She’s listed as a dingo x husky but I think she’s definitely more dingo than anything.

We’re trying to help rehome or find a foster for a 12 month old dingo x husky who has been surrendered because her human is homeless. More details to come (pls DM if you can help).

In the meantime Harry has been hard at work sleeping on the job while Mum brings home the bacon. When I think of Harry being found on the street as a stray my heart hurts.

It is with a very heavy heart that we farewell a member of our pack.

Ziggy was the sweetest, gentle giant I’ve ever met and he charmed every human in the dog park. Relieving them of all those pent up pats and treats if they were to his very discerning taste.

Our hearts are with his humans and his little brother Dougie.

So much love to Giovanna Seadogs Training Walking who walked Ziggy and Dougie six days a week, her love for her pack is deep. She gifted him precious moments of joy and comfort right until the end of the road. We love you G ❤️‍🩹.

This wkd, grab a furry friend and hug them, hang on to them for an extra 10 minutes for all the humans who knew and loved Ziggy.

Vale Ziggy boy. You left big paw prints on the heart of every human you met. Your smile, gentle nature, slow strolls and love of the water will be sorely missed.

🌻 Happy 3 Month Anniversary Harry 🌻

According to the 333 Rule for bringing home rescue dogs, today Harry woke up and knew in his heart of hearts that he is mine and I am his ❤️

And let me tell you, he seems pretty happy about it 😂 I’ve taken the day off work and we are going on an adventure.

When you bring home a rescue:

The 1st three days are really stressful for your doggo (and a little stressful for the humans too). It’s ok, it’s perfectly normal and know that we will move beyond this. Establish a routine, keeping them inside with you and take some time off work to be with them. Keep them on leash at all times outside and create a warm cozy, safe space for them. I kept Harry’s crate in my room, popped a blanket over it and made it very comfy. When he was in his crate I left him alone until he was ready to come out.

After 3 weeks, leashed sniffaris of the new hood, on leash socialization and basic training will help you bond. Harry was still very jumpy and quick to scare but he began to rely on the routine and his days became predictable and enjoyable. Daily walks with the same pack Seadogs Training Walking made all the difference to Harry’s mental health and sense of safety.

Then you get to where we are today.

Three months. Harry now knows he belongs with me, he’s very playful, guards his fence line, playfully gives me kisses and cuddles and I can see the most beautiful life ahead.

As it gets colder, and you’re contemplating a rescue, we hope this post pushes you over the line.

Adopting Harry is the smartest thing my heart has ever done and I know that Fletch chose Harry. What a smart and handsome boy you were Fletch. Mummy misses you every second of every day ❤️🐾❤️🐾

My team fell asleep in the middle of our staff meeting. Its so hard to find good help these days 😂🐾❤️
