Something I wasn't aware of either. Every pet owner needs to know this. Thank you Animal Wellness for sharing the knowledge and spreading awareness, this can save a lot of pets lives ❤️🐾
RAT LUNGWORM IS IN OUR BACKYARDS - AND DOGS ARE DYING
Let’s talk about something most dog owners don’t even know exists, until it’s too late.
Rat Lungworm.
Yes, it sounds made up. It’s not.
It’s a real parasitic infection.
Carried by snails and slugs.
Picked up by dogs who sniff, lick, or chew grass, bowls, or toys after rain.
And it can cause paralysis. Even death.
Just this month, multiple dogs in QLD and NSW have been hit with it, including one 18-month-old Lab in Sydney who’s now learning to walk again.
There’s no vaccine. No guaranteed cure.
Just awareness. Prevention. Vigilance.
That means:
– Don’t leave food or water bowls outside
– Pick up dog poo fast (it’s part of the parasite cycle)
– Be extra cautious after heavy rain
Rat lungworm isn’t new, but rising cases show we’re not doing enough to educate pet owners.
So this post is a start.
