I'm back in action! 🥳

Thank you for all your patience over the past few weeks, I've officially been in my new role for almost 8 weeks now and I am finally getting into the swing of full time work while still doing some business stuff

This means (finally) replying to some of your old messages and emails (I'm so sorry!). So if you sent me a message/ email and need a follow up, please either shoot another one through, or I will get back to you very shortly anyway.

As I am so busy I am limiting myself to 1 session a weekend and 1 viewing session. This means I am working 7 days a week, almost completely round the clock.

Things are taking some extra time to be done, but we are getting there ❤️

I can't wait to see all your pets again soon!!

Missing the beach already, can I go back yet? 🙈

I can't believe that its almost July, my June has been crazy busy, but I certainly can't complain!

I've been busy with shoots, travelling and family and friends coming and staying with us which has been so lovely, and it doesn't look like July is going to be any quieter 😅

Hold your pets extra close tonight.

When they go all we have is memories, and when they fade, their pictures will stay with us forever.

I wish I had more beautiful photos of my cat Stripes.

On her ashes box is a picture I took just a couple weeks before she passed. She was laying on my pillow (she always slept there) looking out into the sunshine with the side of her face towards me, and I captured a little rainbow light leak above her.

At the time I thought what a cute picture this was. I never thought it'd be one of the last or the one that stays in my mind forever.

Take all the photos of your pets, the funny & goofy ones, the close ups of them sleeping, but try and get photos that really speak to you, the photos that will come to your mind every time you think of them.

Those are the most important ❤️

I always talk about how special Arte is to me, but Jay is equally my stunning boy.

Just watching him interact with his world is so amusing. I've never experienced a more expressive dog.

Without him, I don't think I'd laugh anywhere near as much as I do everyday 🌅

The best part of my new camera, is being able to capture pastel perfect twilight shots at the beach 💕

Sunset is definitely my favourite time, and on a clear day at the beach just makes it a million times better.

Another little Before & After for you all to enjoy!

Depending on the location, weather and lighting, the editing required on each image can vary greatly!

I'm definitely more of a warm lighting vibe than dark and moody, but I also love to experiment with editing too.

It really depends on the image itself for the final product, but trust your photographer will create magical images for you to enjoy 🥰

Do you have a heart dog?

I know as a multi pet owner I can't really choose favourites, and both the dogs and cats all their own very unique personalities with quirks that I all love so much.

But Artemis is just extra special to me. She really is my heart dog. I cannot explain just how important she is to me, she and I just have this extra connection ❤️

This is one of my favourite poses for pet parents who don't want to be in the photos.

I know its hard jumping in front of the camera (I feel the same!) but having shots of you and your pet together is so special and something you'll wish you had when we say goodbye.

Luckily I have quite a few poses that incorporates you in subtle ways with your pet 🥰

I still cannot get over how cute Cleo was! She was pretty shy at first so we started with some cuddle shots to get her more comfortable with the studio and camera.

This was right at the end of the session, she was such a good girl and decided to show off some of her tricks (at just 10 weeks old!!) 😭💖

Before & Afters are so fun! Sometimes things can look less than ideal, but I am so thankful that Photoshop exists now!

But did you know we used to edit and retouch photos, especially people, even before the 1900s?

Portrait Photographers back in the late 1800s used a blade, similar to a surgeons scalpel, on the photo negatives to scratch out unwanted features. Then they would repaint over the scratched image the desired effect (smooth skin, removing pox scars, replacing clothes).

Is the rain finally over? I sure hope so, this wet weather is driving me and the dogs crazy 🤪

Our outdoor activities including shoots have been very very limited, so I'm crossing my fingers (and toes!) for some consistant sunshine.

My grass needs a mow and I would really like to go to my local Petstock (that is currently flooded in. Again. 😳)

Anyone else over this rain?

Today I finally found out why I've been so unwell the past week.

I have some kind of lung/ chest infection 😔

With multiple negative Covid tests and a persistent cough, I thought my long forgotten asthma was flaring up again.

Thankfully, I have some antibiotics and I should be better by next week, so in the meantime I'm trying to (finally) take it easy and stop pushing myself to the brink of exhaustion through my sickness.

Shoots have been rescheduled to next weekend and this week I'll finish my editing and try to heal.

Thank you as always to my clients for being so patient and understanding ❤️

And to my Husband for doing all my usual household chores on top of his own and taking care of me 🥺

The best part about having a home studio is being able to safely and comfortably photograph cats!

Cody was such a cute boy who loved his session, it was filled with plenty of treats and cuddles from his Mum & Dad of course.

He also knew high five! Such a smart kitty!!

Pet cuddles are the best things in the world, and even if your pet isn't a snuggler we can always get great connection shots.

Jaybird is a huuge snuggler, he's always up for a cuddle on the couch.

Artemis on the other hand can't be away from me, but would prefer to lie on her own portion of the couch 😂

My thoughts are with everyone suffering through the floods at the moment, especially my Northern Rivers friends and family.

When Lachlan and I moved there from Canberra we suffered through our first flood in 2017, it took out a lot of the Lismore CBD and required so much clean up.

Around Lismore you could see flood level signs that showed the 1974 flood, which at the time, was the largest recorded flood.

Until this week.

Everyone I know has been affected and the devastation hasn't stopped to even asses all the losses yet.

Losing homes, belongings, animals. Places that got a fair bit of water have now gone completely under, other family members that have never had to worry about flooding, have had to evacuate.

Friends who had been out helping others evacuate and get to safety, have now had to evacuate themselves.

My old home we sold at the end of last year has gone completely under. It was a Queenslander behind the levy wall, and the photos my old neighbours sent me showed the entire street under water.

The Brisbane floods have been concerning, the centenary highway has been closed and if we were at our old apartment we would've had some problems, but my heart breaks so so much more for the Northern Rivers.

We've just picked Artemis up from the vet. Earlier in the week she wasn't weight bearing on her back right leg and was hopping around on her other 3 instead. 💔

Vet gave her a full exam and sent her home with some pain meds hoping its just soft ligament damage and that if we need to, we can book an Xray to check for a toe fracture.

With no improvement we booked an Xray today.

Thankfully no fracture, but it also means our only guess is soft tissue/ ligament damage. So our poor little princess is drugged up with a cast on for the next 10 days 🥺

We were also told to keep the cast dry as it can't get wet. Don't ask me how she's going to go to the toilet when the whole yard is flooded currently 😅

I don't like to play favourites, but this shoot has created my absolute favourite images to date.

I had dreamed of photographing a rider and their horse jumping on the beach and it was so fitting that it was and Teddy who were my subject!

I've known Bella for over 5 years now, in fact when Bella's Mum lent me their old old little camera, Bella and Teddy were my first test subjects!

I'll share those first images in my story, because the glow up in 3 years is just crazy 🙈

How totally handsome is Kahlua? 😍

He has such a big personality while at the same time being such a chill little dude, which definitely comes from his beautiful Mum Dolly!

It was soo nice to go down for a weekend and catch up with friends, and meet two new cuties 🥰

One of my 2022 goals is to get more horses (and their riders) under my lens!

2022 has really been hit and miss so far, and I am already looking forward to a holiday, any holiday 🤪

At least I got to spend a weekend with these two cuties, that was definitely a highlight, and I can't wait to head back down and see them again 😍

This is the absolutely gorgeous Malibu owned and bred by out of (my favourite stallion ever) Daiquiri GF.

She is seriously stunning with just a little bit of her Mum's attitude, looking at you Abbey 😂

I could have watched Malibu and Kahlua play and run all day, and if you want to see more of their shenanigans, go check out Bella's Instagram for hilarious videos of the foals.

And if Malibu goes missing, it definitely wasn't me 😉

To those who haven't met me in person yet, hi! I'm Bree! 👋🏻

To my incredibly supportive friends who always like my posts, I see you, I love you and I miss you 😘

I'm going to share a bit about me and I'll also put a Q&A up on my story if you have any other questions!

I am an incredibly passionate person which I put into everything I do.

I love to read (especially female writers!) and watch just about anything! Currently watching some Korean Dramas as recommended by my sister, they are honestly brilliant, but I am always after more recommendations 🙏🏻

My current favourite movie is Emma. (2020) based on the novel by Jane Austen. Fun Fact: Clueless is a modern adaption of Emma!

Animals are so important to me, I've always had animals in my life, cats, dogs, birds, fish, rabbits, horses, I couldn't imagine a life without them. And because I think 2 of each is the perfect amount for me, I am always ready to cuddle your pets instead 🙈

I absolutely love capturing pets in motion.

It takes a lot of practice and skill to get crisp, in focus images of a moving animal, especially when you are trying to capture unpredictable motion, like puppies or foals running around and playing 😅

But the end result is always worth it for a totally unique image every time! 🐶

The last of our pack members is Artemis 💕

Often mistaken for a boy, Artemis is a female 2yo Australian Shepherd.

She is a mummy's girl and her most common nicknames (from me) are, MissMiss, Mimi and MamMam 😂
I usually tell others to call her Arte, as Artemis can be a mouthful for some.

Artemis' favourite things are fetch (especially with a tennis ball) and belly pats. She is incredibly driven and food motivated. We're continuing agility this year with both Jay and Arte, she has a real talent for and I would love to see how far she can go.

She also LOVES sleeping on the bed, if either myself or my husband up out to grab a drink she is up there immediately 😂

I'm sure most you already know Jay, but I'm going to officially introduce him.

Jaybird (aka Jay, Jason when naughty) is a 3 1/2yo Australian Shepherd.

He is incredibly vocal and talkative, as well as a huge snuggle bug. He's a bit dramatic and will throw himself around while yelling which is always hilarious 😂

Jay is on anxiety medication and often lacks confidence, this is something we're continually working on.

Jay's dream day would probably either be spending all day at Wooli Beach running along the sand and into the water, or playing at the park with .collie.mutt_

Our newest addition to the fam, is Roy 👋🏻

Roy is probably the snuggliest kitten I've ever met. He absolutely loves cuddles, pats and will wake you up by licking you on your nose (which I really wish he wouldn't) 😂

He is incredibly brave and curious, nothing scares him! The dogs will run over him accidentally and he just won't move, its crazy! He also loves to pester Alfred, which is fine, because before we got Roy it was Alfred annoying Artemis 🤣

Roy loves his food. He's a bit of a Marley (& Me). Foam seems to be his favourite, foam rollers, pool noodles, even half a stubby holder!

But we wouldn't change him at all 💕
(Except maybe trying to eat everything, that'd be great)

Thought it was about time I properly introduced all of us here at J&A Pet Photography (in no particular order).

Alfred Pennyworth is a 2yo Tuxedo Domestic Short Hair from a local rescue back in Lismore. He came into our lives after we lost our previous cat Stripes at 14.

Alfred, most commonly referred to as Meowfred (by me), loves pats, my husband and any kind of food.

His favourite kind of pats are when I hold my hand high above his head and he reaches up standing on his back feet to headbutt my hand. When he really wants these, he sits in front of me and makes this weird stinky face with his ears flat 😂

With the new home studio, I'm hoping to capture more of my own pets, and plenty of yours!

My birthday present finally arrived today! Although it got delivered to our old address in Toowong by accident so I'm picking it up tomorrow 😅

Looking up to 2022 🤩

My birthday is in 6 (🤯) days, and I'm very excited for what I'm getting myself this year 🤭

Normally I don't buy myself birthday presents, and my husband and I tend to stick to a small budget for each other every year for birthdays.

But all of that saving was so we could buy our next house (which we did late last year 👀) so this year, it's time to get to work on filling our house.

Cannot wait to share my "birthday gift" once it all arrives 🤫

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday period. My Christmas did not go as planned, but in Covid times we have to make do unfortunately.

Luckily I was able to take the New Year out with a bang with my girls (sans husband due to iso) and I had a great night (didn't throw up in the Uber so winning!) 😂🍾

What did you get up to over the holidays?

I have a lot of exciting things planned for 2022 and have been doing a bit of reflection on myself and my work. I know where I want to improve and what I want to add.

I cannot wait to get into 2022 and see you all there. 😘

Just before I clock out for Christmas, I have one last thank you.

Its for my husband, who dressed up as Santa not once, not twice but THREE times for our Christmas minis. He's a very shy person normally so this was such a big thing for him 🎅🏻

Another is to my amazing friend Jaz who coordinated bookings and payments on the two days, I genuinely could not have done this without her help either! ❤

Lastly, a big thank you to YOU.

This was my first year as J&A Pet Photography and I couldn't have asked for better supporters and friends.

It's officially Christmas Season 🎉🎅🏻🎄

Last post I spoke about how excited I was that girls reached out to me to do their Santa shoots. And a huuge thanks of that goes to the amazing Jaz who came up with the idea, without her, none of this would have happened.

About a week out of our Friday shoot, I was started panicking and feeling sick from the stress. I had never shot inside before, I had never used lights, I had no idea what I was doing or how these would turn out and I was so so nervous. I binge watched a bunch of Youtube tutorials, read countless blogs and articles and it still wasn't fully clicking. Thankfully a friend was able to let me play with her lights and even let me borrow them for the day. Everything eased a bit, I can do this, I told myself, I will never back down from a challenge. 💪🏻

When I got that message from the girls at asking if I'd be interested in working with them to do Santa shoots I was over the moon.

Words could not describe how honoured and excited I was.

I want to thank all the TDM girls, especially Emma, Jaz and Lana for organising this, setting it up and taking care of all the promotions.

Firstly, a thank you to Emma.

Emma was a great source of inspiration and even when she was swamped with orders she was helping me redo the set, put up trees, packup, and we even found time to squeeze some absolutely fantastic reels in with Santa. 🎅🏻

She got up early and stayed let to ensure our first Saturday of shoots went off without a hitch and I am so thankful for all her help and the opportunity to do something amazing ❤
