We were called to help when Albi was recommended for euthanasia. Albi was labelled agressive and was terrorising the family, enjoying fingers and ankles instead of his toys. When we finally met him, we saw a very insecure, frightened little boy, trying to do a job he wasn't qualified for, protecting his family.
Fast forward with some boundaries, lots of love, some brothers and sisters and this boy is thriving. No more anger and a very content little boy. Albi's transformation is a reminder that every animal deserves a chance to thrive, and that sometimes all it takes is a little understanding and compassion. What do you think this face says?

Thank you to you all for your lovely messages. The storm hit us hard Friday and Saturday, as we know it did so many. We are still without power from 7pm Friday night and are carting water to the animals, so they have fresh water access.
Sadly the storm ravaged the sanctuary, we lost temporary enclosures we use for new residents and a huge number or tress and fences are down. We also see a lot of wildlife suffer so please keep an eye out but thankfully the sanctuary residents are all safe.

WELCOME BLOSSOM
Time to meet a new resident. Blossom joined us after her two paddock mates unexpectedly passed and she was left on her own. Alpacas need to be in a herd of their own for them to be happy and healthy, so Blossom came to join us. We have been keeping a close eye on her to make sure she shows no signs that we need to be concerned with and treating her skin issues. But, we can't wait to see this little girl 'Blossom' ♥️

Sorry for the slight absence guys, we love posting on here to keep you all updated with what's been happening at the sanctuary but with only two of us running it, it can sometimes be hard and the animals always come first, with a few that have needed our constant attention. However it has also given us the time to reshuffle, welcome new residents and also make new connections.

THE PERFECT MUM & DAUGHTER SHOT
Alpacas are incredibly protective of their young and really make the absolute best parents. It's beautiful to watch mum Davina spend her days with Jasmine and still show her the ways of the world, including the ancient art of hay rolling!
BLOOPER!
A picture tells a thousand words and this blooper pic does exactly that. Whilst cleaning out the donkey shelter, our resident carrot poacher tried to grab a couple of extra carrots from our pockets. So say hello to 'Hollywood the carrot Hoarder'! 🤣🤣
MEET LARRY
Daphne the duck joined us at Christmas time along with a few of her friends in a pretty bad way.
She spent the first few weeks in a warm safe environment to help her heal and measure her eating habits along with a rescued Guinea Fowl. Little did we know Daphne was sitting on a Guinea Fowl egg and has become mum to little Larry, who now won't go anywhere without his duck mum.
Daphne has turned a corner and is healing well and as you can see, she is relishing her role as mum 🤣♥️

WE KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING
Is this an album cover, right? 🤣. Nope it's just some of our long term alpaca boys living their best life and getting ready for their fave alpaca pellets. Andre, named after one of our very special supporters, was born on the Sanctuary after his mum arrived suffering with an unknown neurological condition. Sadly his mum passed a few short months after but he is thriving and happy here with a close on him at all times. ❤️
NORMAL SERVICE RESUMED 😂
After a crazy end to last year, one emergency and surrender after another this year, we are finally back to normal. We have lots to update you all with and lots of new characters to meet before they start life in new forever homes.
This time of year is always difficult for animals and we are forever grateful for your continued support and to the .vets team for always being on hand for every emergency, let's bring on 2023.

Teddy's monitoring is going well and in the meantime he has had made some life long friends, which has really brought him out of his shell ❤️

Our daily washing load is HUGE at the sanctuary, so it's fair to say our washing machine works hard. However disaster struck this week, when it broke down. Thankfully we were able to get another one in action quickly and amazingly money was saved with Poppy on the installation team. Between you and us, she has no career ahead in washing machine installation. We love her though 🤣❤️

ADOPTION, TWICE THE LOVE ❤️❤️
The time has come for these beautiful boys to find their forever home. Our bonded boys Rupert and Rambles are the most gorgeous young miniature ponies with HUGE personalities and are looking for an awesome home. Both are halter trained and enjoy human company a lot.
These boys will only be homed together, as they don't like to seperated, although Rambles is definately the boss. If you would like to apply to give these boys the best home they deserve you will need, a secure fenced area, suitable shelter and previous horse/pony experience would be desirable, although we will provide you with any help you need. DONKEY DILEMMA
It's been a busy week here already with new residents and saying goodbye to others. Let's introduce you to Ivy and Olive (named after one of our beautiful supporters). We were contacted about these wild girls and offered the chance to get them to the sanctuary, when life offered them very little other options. They have some skin issues and some lameness to deal with but for now we will let them calm down, adjust and then start a long journey to trust and good health. Welcome to your new life girls. ❤️❤️

Ex breeding girl Lulu is one of the wisest girls we know and despite all she's been through and continues to go through, is one of our sweetest residents here. Pounds and rescues are overflowing at the moment so please remember to 'adopt not shop'

UNCLE PHILIP AND THE GIRLS
In all of our years in rescue, Camels still constantly surprise us. Intelligent, sensitive, gentle, funny and super emotional souls but most beautiful to see is the strong family unit they create so quickly.
Despite never meeting before, Philip immediately became the fun uncle to our two girls Bella and Maggie and they love sitting with him watching the world go by. We expect they are discussing current world events but who knows, it's a camel mystery.

MEET GANDALF THE GOOSE - This brave little guy, was unable to walk and had severe eye infections. So the world was a pretty scary place. After weeks of supportive care and physio look at some of his first steps. Still a little wobbly but he is finally doing it on his own.

GOODBYE BEAUTIFUL - Another angel has gained her wings here at the sanctuary. Monique joined us over 4 years ago at the grand old age of 11. She joined us from a breeding situation and came here to heal and retire, spending the last few years with her own little alpaca family and growing in to the notorious mischief maker we knew and loved. If she wasn't rolling through the water spray, she would be stealing carrots from the buckets. - Monique had a seizure last weekend and was never quite the same, we supported her to try and get her through it but she had another seizure a few days later and passed in our arms. It's been an eventful few weeks, especially for Chester, one of our long-term residents. Chester had a very difficult start in life and developed a deep distrust of humans as a result. Recently, we noticed he wasn't himself, so we rushed him to @nicklinwayvetsurgery. There, he was diagnosed with a gallbladder mucocele, a life-threatening condition caused by a blocked cystic duct. For any animal, this is a huge operation but for a 12 year old little guy, it was huge. Thanks to all of the team and Dr. Doug's skill, Chester underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder. Although his recovery is still ongoing and challenging, his condition is gradually improving. He's currently on multiple medications and was closely monitored in the ICU before being allowed home, where he was being watched 24 hours a day. We are so grateful to the Nicklin Way Veterinary Surgery team for their lifesaving care once again. - Emergencies like Chester's strain our resources, running into the thousands unexpectedly. LIFE OF A SENIOR AT MINI TAILS This was nap number 42, also known as Poppys pre dinner nap 😂. DID YOU KNOW? As most know, we are big camel fans here at the sanctuary but did you know there are only three surviving species of camel. The one humped - dromedary, which equates to 94% of the world's camels population, and the two humped Bactrian camel makes up 6%. The wild Bactrian camel is a seperate species and is now critically endangered with there being less that 450 left in the wild. The survival skills of these guys in the wild is truly astounding.
THE PRESSURE IS REAL Breakfast time is a favorite time of the day here but no one makes sure we don't forget more than than Albi 😂. Many of our dogs here are on specialised diets to help them thrive and counteract previous years of neglect.
