It’s Women’s Health Week and VetCheck 24/7 is easing the load and supporting the mental health of vets and vet nurses one call at a time.
“As a senior veterinary nurse working in a hospital that utilises VetCheck 24/7, I have seen first hand the amazing work that VetCheck 24/7 provides each day. Working in a remote hospital in the Northern Territory has its challenges, however, having the ability to utilise such an effective triage service has made the lives of the vets and vet nurses I work with, including myself, so much easier. Having VetCheck 24/7 working alongside veterinary hospitals around Australia has become vitally important and I am very passionate about the work that VetCheck 24/7 does.”

The VetCheck 24/7 vet nurses will give your clients the right advice when they need it. Just like this real call from a client of West Gippsland Vet Care.
"Patrick was bouncing and happy - but had a small piece of tissue visible hanging through his suture line. His muscle sutures and subcutaneous later had broken with all his bouncing around. The piece of tissue was omentum. The rest of his omentum and abdominal contents were only held by the intradermal layer.
The owner thought she might be able to wait until morning. It was very lucky for him that Natasha, the VetCheck 24/7 nurse that took the call, had realised how serious the situation might be. Luckily Natasha convinced her that he needed to be seen as soon as possible. It is highly likely that the wait until morning would have resulted in the complete rupture of the surgery site and evisceration.
As it is - Patrick is a happy boy with new sutures in place and sedation to keep him from bouncing until the wound heals properly. Thanks again Natasha. "

With the rising cost of living, your clients might try to avoid emergency centres and after hours call outs, worried about the costs.
If they could call your clinic at anytime, day or night and speak to a vet nurse, they wouldn't need to worry. With VetCheck 24/7, you can divert your phones to us and leave the clinic at night knowing that your clients can seek the advice they need. They'll get the right answer, whether it can wait until the next day, or needs veterinary attention right away.
Their pets will be safer, not relying on Dr Google for a diagnosis and your pet owners only pay for emergency care if it's absolutely necessary.
After hours (or anytime) vet nurse triage service for veterinary practices.

It's the month of encouraging pet owners to arrange a dental health check up for their pets. Imagine how efficient this would be if they could be done via video consultation? Maybe even by your vet nurses!
Your vets can work flexibly and talk to clients from home or the surgery, perfect for triage and general advice. Imagine being able to talk through a pets discharge with the owner at a quiet time during the day, making pick up time fast and stress free.
Medechat is the telehealth platform that has been developed specifically for veterinary practices. This means that it 100% meets the demands of our profession and it's vet board compliant.
The best news is that it comes packaged with the VetCheck 24/7 service for no extra cost, or you can sign up for Medechat on it's own.
For your pet owner, initial vet nurse triage is free, meaning they don't have to put off seeking advice, worried about after hours fees.
There are many paid vet consultation services online vying for the attention of pet owners seeking assistance after hours. When owners are distressed and emotional it can be easy for them to spend money on an unknown service, or worse, not seek advice at all, when what they really want to do is speak to their own vet clinic.
That's where VetCheck 24/7 is different. We operate as an extension of your clinic, resolving your clients issues with a positive outcome, quickly and efficiently. Clients will either receive detailed nursing advice from our experienced nurses, referral to a telehealth consultation, be referred to your after hours vet if it is a true emergency or be referred to your nominated emergency centre. All while giving your staff the rest they need after hours.
Yesterday was International Cat Day and our team of vet nurses were there to help the owners of 15 cats and a litter of kittens when their usual practice was closed.
We always hope for positive outcomes and it can be heartbreaking for our nurses when they have a distressed pet and owner. That’s why our nurses are the best in the business, with the ability to calmly triage pets needs quickly and efficiently and make sure they get the help they need.
The nurses will still be thinking of those cats as they help another 15 today. That’s the VetCheck 24/7 difference.
Meet Leanne, one of our long term tele-triage nurses who has worked with us for 2 years now. With 7 years experience working in England as an RVN, Leanne is an intrinsic part of our UK based nursing team.
Based in Cambridgeshire, Leanne and the rest of our UK based nurse contractors, work the Australian evening and overnight shifts. This means that all our teams, whichever hemisphere they are in, are well rested, alert and ready to tackle your emergency calls.
Leanne loves that our mission is simply to ease the load on staff in clinic. Meaning that hard working vet professionals can rest overnight and enjoy their weekends and holidays; which is hard to come by in veterinary medicine.
By being able to help pet owners with general advice, booking a Medechat or sending them straight to emergency care; Leanne finds the variety of cases just as satisfying as working in clinic.
A standout call for Leanne was a farmer who had called with a sheep lambing. With no access to an vet after hours, Leanne set up a Medechat with Dr Moss who assisted the owner to deliver the lamb safe and sound!
We thank Leanne for all her continued hard work & commitment to our VetCheck24/7 team and our mission.
Thank you to our rangers and also all the vets that take in sick and injured wildlife!
On Monday, World Ranger Day, we will take a moment to thank those that look after our wildlife and habitat.
The team at VetCheck 24/7 would also like to thank all the unsung heroes in practices across the world that take in and help injured and sick wildlife. On top of a busy workload, taking the time to be there for our most vulnerable animals is truly remarkable. Thank you!

Chat bots have their place, but helping worried and emotional pet owners, isn't one of them.
Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists Science Week 2023 kicks off today. It's always an interesting forum to discuss and explore cutting-edge topics in veterinary science and research.
VetCheck 24/7 is committed to using the latest technology for call tracking, reporting and providing video consultations with VetCheck vets via the Medechat platform. But one thing we won't compromise on is the human element of having a team of highly experienced vet nurses assisting your clients. Chat bots have their place but helping worried and emotional pet owners isn't one of them.
We won't be at Science Week today and tomorrow, but if you are, take home the VetCheck 24/7 pen. You can't miss it, it's bright pink (of course!).

The theme of Men's Health Week 2023 is Healthy Habits - focusing on encouraging men to build healthy habits by identifying small changes they can make that benefit their health and wellbeing.
One of those changes is having the assistance of the VetCheck 24/7 after hours vet nurse triage service, so on call vets are only disturbed in true emergencies, reducing stress levels and stressful interactions with pet owners. We can even take payment upfront from clients so vets don't need to discuss money with pet owners that are already emotional.
The pet owners have already been assisted by our vet nurses and received some initial advice before the vet nurse contacts your on call vet. This helps your pet owner to be calmer and more prepared when they arrive after hours.

Medechat - Veterinary care, anytime, anywhere.
Work from home or the vet surgery and connect with your patients when they need you. Medechat has researched the most stable platform to provide consistent, reliable video quality for online consultations - and it’s Vet Board compliant.
Revolutionise your Vet Practice today with Medechat developed by a real Australian Vet, Dr Moss Siddle.
“There is a crisis in the veterinary industry worldwide. There are record levels of disenchantment soon after graduation, rates of su***de 4x the level of the general population, stressful work environments, demanding pet owners, inflexible and long working hours plus low rates of comparative professional pay.”
Dr Moss Siddle, and Australian Vet, has set out to deliver a reliable, functional and user-friendly platform for progressive veterinarians / specialists and customers (pet owners / GP veterinarians) to communicate and consult.
“Medechat may help to reduce a lot of the pressures encountered as a working vet and/or business owner. Currently video consultation vets (overseas) are affiliated with insurance companies and are bypassing the regular vets of pet owners. A video consultation can never replace hands-on examination of an ill or injured pet, but Medechat will be useful for assessing remote patients unable to access a veterinarian in person and offers staff flexible hours or work from home.” said Dr Moss.
“It will also enable pet owners convenient access to low cost professional advice, drive clinic visits and prevent clients from seeking independent video consultation or advice from Dr Google!”
Keep your clients asking your vets for advice!
Dr Moss Siddle started working in outback Australia as a cattle and horse vet in 1992. He then worked in the UK for 3 years in various large and small animal practices before establishing Dandenong Ranges Veterinary Centre in the beautiful eastern outskirts of Melbourne, Australia. With the advent of smartphones Dr Moss produced a free pet care app in 2012 called VetCheck which has over 10,000 installations. Medechat is how Dr Moss sees the future of veterinary medicine.
Dr Moss is also on the executive committee of the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) Victorian division as well as the advisory committee of the AVA Veterinary Business Group.
