What a month 😅
It’s been insanely busy here with almost every horse back in work. Each horse is progressing at their own pace but improving nonetheless. Spirit Blue (pictured) has only had a handful of rides since Waterford last month. I wanted to give her some time off and then re-start with a revised approach to her training and tackle some of her mental blocks before heading out again. She’s certainly feeling and looking terrific and happy to be back with a job to do 👌🏻

Hong Kong retiree ‘Galaxy Emperor’ has really turned a corner lately. My approach with gally has been lots of fun rides focusing on small achievable goals to build his confidence.
He was a slow maturing horse so a steady approach has worked well for him.
Huge thanks to International Thoroughbred Retirement for trusting me with this boy.
He was Amy’s pick of the bunch at the time and I have to agree, just needed that little bit of extra one on one time.

Fed a balanced diet exclusively from Stance Equitec Australia including Osmoplex to replenish anything lost during excessive sweating in the QLD heat 🥵

Trying to find some positive words to describe our first comp of 2024 🫣
Both horses didn’t display their best work today…
Spirit Blue was incredibly overwhelmed, anxious and tense resulting in a fair few explosions💥
She had some okay moments in the test but majority of it was spent either in the air or trying to go up.
We were able to get a decent warm up and even some long and low work beforehand but during the tests it was just a matter of keeping her moving forward.
Bonnie was also tense over by the arena and just wanted to get through the test as fast as possible.
It’s a bit disappointing that we weren’t able to relay the work we’ve been doing at home in a competitive environment but there will be plenty more opportunities to try again.
Needless to say the bar is set pretty low and it’s only up from here 😂

Bonnie is a forward moving horse with 3 correct paces including a beautiful uphill canter and powerful hind end.
Spins, roll backs, laterals all started.
She has competed preliminary dressage scoring 62.8% at her first outing for 5th place and 1st place in her prep test.
She has been to show jump training days along with mustering, beach rides and trails.
Bonnie has been put around a barrel pattern and shows immense natural talent. With the right person she would excel at barrel racing.
Paddock alone or with others.
Easy to catch, trim (currently barefoot), float, wash etc.
Bonnie would be best suited to an experienced rider as she is forward off the leg and wants to work.
Very regrettable sale! She’s the horse you pick when you want a fun, fuss free outing.

Well it’s been a massive weak with no time for rest at Summit Equine. Huge storm on Christmas Eve saw a lot of destruction in our area including powerlines down so we won’t have power until Sunday and limited phone reception.
All horses are safe and well which is the main thing 🤍
In amongst all the madness we’ve had a new arrival (pictured) JJ is fresh from the breakers and here for some education and miles. He’s such a sweetheart and we’re looking forward to some outings.

Thought it might be time to officially introduce the newest addition to my personal team. Meet ‘Lazy B Huntsman’ registered clydie x sporthorse. So grateful to .lung & Caitlin for the work they have done with him so far and sending him my way even though I’ve been saying I need to downsize all year 😅
He’s got a few quirks and is still quite new to dressage so he’ll join us on all our travels to get plenty of exposure and hopefully make his debut next season.
2024 is going to be huge!!

When you used to be a Hong Kong racehorse living in multi-story buildings and now you’re favourite pass time is watching the bikes go past 😂 🏍️
Galaxy Emperor has come along way both geographically and mentally since his racing career.

Our horses get exposed to a lot here and we always make sure it’s in stages that they’re comfortable with. Their safety is always our priority but we also want to prepare them for anything they might encounter in life.

Words cannot express how happy I am to be back onboard Ginja 🙌🏼
It’s been well over a month since he’s been in full work and 9 days since I’ve ridden a horse (not that I’m counting 🫣).
He was a little wobbly and weak through his back and hind as expected but tried his heart out!
Can’t wait to build his strength back up and start working towards next season 💪🏼

As some of you are may already be aware. I have swapped the saddle for an office chair part time working for a company I wholeheartedly stand behind and support.
Stance Equitec Australia has been involved in our regular feeding program for years. There essential range is a staple in our feed room.

Earlier in the year we started all our performance horses on UlcaBuf after being sent a bucket to try. Many of our horses have come off the track and the adjustment can often be challenging, from finding the right feed to the training approach that is most effective.
I have found UlcaBuf incredibly helpful for the horses that have been treated and on a grain free, low starch/high fibre diet.

The horse pictured here is Ginja, he’s always had a low appetite despite trialling him on so many different complete feeds and it wasn’t until the introduction of UlcaBuf that I started to notice a change in his temperment and appetite.
Ginja retired from racing in 2021 and had a short spell before I acquired him. He is naturally an athletic horse with a sweet personality but I was struggling to maintain his weight. He would eat a handful of feed before walking away and coming back to it later.
Ginja was medically treated before putting him on UlcaBuf.
We no longer have leftover feed in his bucket and although his temperement was always lovely, he is a much happier horse all round.
Not that I’m complaining but, he’s almost too quiet when ridden at home now!

Boonara Bandit with his new owner Pip at their first official xc start. I brought Bandit as a 2yo for his laid back temperament and soon realised just how talented he was. I campaigned him for a few seasons before selling him to the most wonderful home who absolutely adore him. A perfect match for a perfect horse 🙌🏼

Unfortunately yesterday’s Waterford Dressage was rescheduled due to wet grounds and we are unable to make the new date so Betty & I will have to make our debut next year. We have lots of fun outings on the cards lined up for summer so it will give us a change to strengthen our bond in the meantime.
Ginja was also nominated to compete at his last event so he’s having an early break after completing his first season off the track.

Did you know we offer agistment for injured horses?
Our stables are partially open to allow airflow and allow the horses to view their surroundings. Well drained sand bases to prevent hoof infections and for ease of cleaning.
Suitable for horses requiring short term box rest recovering from tendon issues or other injuries.
Competent in IV & IM injections along with oral medications, bandaging/poulticing and any other requirements involved in injury management.

Pip & Boonara Bandit have been on fire lately🔥
Just under 2 months in his new home and they’ve already hit the competition scene coming home with 3rd out of 16 teams last weekend at Caboolture and this weekend they tackled their first dressage comp as well as 70 & 80cm show jump rounds.
63.7% in the prelim 1.2 9th out of 32 riders and 66.8% in the 1.1 coming 8th out of 29 riders which is phenomenal for their first attempt as a team.
I couldn’t be more proud of Bandit keeping his little rider safe and showing off the unicorn that he is!

I swear every week is busier than the last 😂
But this week our personal horses have more time spent on trails and they’re loving it!
Our client horses are all progressing well. I do have a 4 week vacancy for training so if you’ve got a horse that needs a refresher or shorter turnover get in contact.

We’ve also had a very cute new arrival 🫣 watch this space for updates once we get to know him more.
