ROXY NEEDS RESCUING ๐
Sweet little Roxy is 9 months old and has had a very sad start to her young life. Roxy has only ever lived in an incredibly small concrete area, she has never been allowed inside, she is never taken for walksโฆ now she needs to be gone ASAP because she has started barkingโฆ we wonder why?
Roxy has lived a very sheltered life and has not received any training and very little exposure to the outside world. Despite being almost fully grown, Roxy is like a 10-week-old puppy in an adult body, everything is new and exciting, she can sometimes get a little bit overwhelmed. Roxyโs new family need to be dedicated to helping he socialise with the big wide world; this needs to be done slowly and to ensure that Roxy has positive experiences.
Roxy has never had an outlet for her puppy energy, she is an excitable girl who jumps up to say hello, she canโt contain her happiness when she gets to interact with humans and has no manners at all, trying to shower them with kisses. Roxy will need to learn to keep all 4 paws on the ground and to be given boundaries and direction so that she can learn how to appropriately greet people. For now, Roxy is best suited to a home with children over 10, all members of the family need to have experience with a large breed dog that jumps up and be committed to giving Roxy consistent feedback and training.
Roxy is looking for an active family that will give her plenty of exercise, she will also need plenty of enrichment and mental stimulation in her new home to keep her out of mischief; training games, kongs, treat dispensers, hide and seek games are all great ways to help Roxy exercise her brain!
Roxy is a clever girl and is very food motivated, she would enjoy part-taking in short, frequent training sessions at home to begin with and will do best with positive reward-based training. As she is exposed to the outside world and becomes more comfortable, Roxy may be able to progress to group obedience, she may even like to try agility and other dog sports.
Roxy has never been walked and as a result, she is a little bit frantic when she first gets outside and will zig-zag, pull and sniff everything. Like most dogs, when Roxy is unsure of something, she will give it a big bark to let everyone know she is feeling uneasy, her new owner would ideally have experience with reactive dogs and be willing to help Roxy feel more comfortable when something scary appears.
Roxy has only ever met a handful of other dogs when she was a puppy, most of them small, she was apparently very boisterous and played rough with them, she has no manners, and no experience with others. Roxy can be reactive to other dogs and is ideally looking for a home as the only dog so that she can develop her social skills and practice calm greetings. Roxy may be able to live with a large-breed male dog, however the ability to separate and integrate overtime would be necessary.
Roxy has no experience with cats or other small pets, she would likely chase them to begin with and would need careful integration if she is to be placed in a home with ether of these.
This gorgeous little girl has been locked away in a concrete yard her entire life, despite this, she is such a sweetheart that just wants to be loved and please her humans. Roxy has so much potential and a gorgeous temperament, she just needs someone to give her a chance and work with her to make up for all of this lost time. We are desperate to get Roxy out of her current situation, she deserves so much better, it is time for her to start living a real life!
If you can help us save Roxy and give her the second chance at life that she deserves, please complete an adoption application via our website or email [email protected] if you are already on our waiting list and would like to express interest in adopting Roxy.
