Hi everyone !

We are not currently accepting new clients due to some personal unexpected medical reasons.

I will finalise all my current clients but I will be out of action for a while.

Our Nosework Clinic will go ahead and we are still super excited for it ! So for those who expressed interest don’t worry we are still going forward and cannot wait !

We are unsure of the future of Harlequin Hounds Dog Training, however we are still going to continue to grow our product side of our business and have some exciting new products to share with you very soon!

We will be relabeling the business to HARLEQUIN HOUNDS & CO to keep our options open.

I’m still available to chat if you need some help/direction and who to recommend to continue your training goals with.

I appreciate all my past clients for allowing me to help them achieve their goals, we are going to still be able to offer zoom and online courses moving forward, just all in good time.

Again, Thankyou 🖤

Kind Regards,
Demi.

A great way to explain dog socialisation.

One thing I’ve learnt about dogs is they can be extremely routine/pattern animals.

If you’re having trouble with something for example toilet training - then routine is going to be your best friend because the dog can predict when it’s time to go outside and they can start to adjust their bladders - this is a healthy routine.

Not a healthy routine is greeting every dog or person which is explained in this post.

Sometimes it’s good to be unpredictable on walks it will keep your dog guessing and more fulfilled, maybe you do more sniffing, maybe you go a different direction, maybe you do some training or maybe you do some settling work.

Who knows ? Sometimes I don’t even know what I plan to do when I take my dogs out I just see where the walk takes me 🥰

You don’t go to work to not get paid right?

Dogs work for rewards, and that could simply be fulfilment from chasing and catching a ball, food being thrown and they have to find it, physical touch and the list goes on.

Dont be afraid to reward your dog and experiment with what THEY like.

Just a basket full of clean sausages 🐶

Our puppies are now 10 weeks and over the weekend they had a professional bath!

Why would I do this?

Early Exposure 👌🏼

Our puppies go thorough development stages, right now they are going through a critical one (usually around 8-16 weeks)

This is the best time to get your puppy used to all things they are going to have to endure in their life and make it a positive experience & build confidence !

We get our puppies used to as much as possible before venturing to thier new homes to set not only thier new owners up for success but also the puppies !

Some of these things we do include:

Bathing & blow drying
Travelling in the car
Collar and leads (walking)
Eating raw bones (supervised)
Toilet training
Crate training
Road sounds (we live on property so they hear trucks, livestock, motor bikes and plenty of machines!)
General house hold sounds
Waiting for food and cuddles (manners)
And the list goes on…

Our puppies were so well behaved and oh so photogenic for us 🥰

✨THE WAIT IS OVER! ✨

N O W 🙌🏻 O F F E R I N G 🙌🏻 G R O U P
🙌🏻 S E S S I O N S !

We are looking at Wednesdays in Hervey Bay & Thursdays in Maryborough.

Locations for Hervey Bay will be somewhere quiet along the esplanade (on lead beach area for reactive classes)
Location for Maryborough will be in Tinana (exact location to be decided).

All classes are on lead but we highly recommend a long line to allow some freedom (NO RETRACTABLE LEADS FOR CLASS) We are using public space so these classes are designed to help you in the real world and how to manage and train with the unexpected!

These classes will be attend as many as you like so you don’t need to commit to a long course you can simply notify us if you are attending that week.

The content will vary each week introducing new games/skills and activities to try with your dog.

Respect everyone, you don’t know their story or reasoning 🥰

One of the most common things we hear when we are out and about and a dog comes running at us is 'It's okay he's friendly'.
The response when you say 'I don't care, leave me alone', is often 'Well take your reactive dog elsewhere then'.

I fully disagree with that statement, but I also want to point out that there is MANY reasons why someone may not be interested in hanging out with you/your dog when they're out and about with their dog even if they are in a public place.

Effectively what you're saying when you say 'Well don't go to this public place with your dog then' is:
- Your elderly dog is not allowed to use the beach because my dog has the right to run right up/into him.
- Your small chihuahua isn't allowed in this park unless he's okay to play with my giant German Shepherd and be okay with being trampled because my dog has the right to say hi and play with your dog.
- Your dog who is recovering from surgery and can only do short walks is only allowed to do that on pavement but not in his favourite public park where he can watch the ducks because my dog has the right to say hi and play with your dog.
- You can't come here with your nervous dog to slowly teach him the world isn't so scary because my dog has the right to say hi and play with your dog even if they're not ready for it yet.

People with 'friendly' dogs don't get to decide where you walk your dog.
And before people go on about it: this is about any public space that dogs are allowed in on/off leash but are NOT dedicated fenced (off leash) dog parks.

Dogs respond better to actions.

Especially when your training them, they don’t know English so if you haven’t perfected the command use your body language to help communicate for better success, the more success you have the more you dog will begin to understand 🥰

Play creates a better relationship with your dog, it builds confidence, trust and obedience when done correctly 🥰

I never thought about the time I wouldn’t have my Dusty. I did know it wasn’t forever, I just didn’t believe it until it wasn’t.

Let you dogs be dogs.
Don’t worry that they aren’t perfect, we sure aren’t.
Enjoy the little things.
Stop and let them sniff, roll, play.
It’s ok you can always give them a bath, wash the sheets, buy a new blanket.
But you can’t buy time back with them.
Love them.

You only have a few years with your Dog
so let them up on the Bed, the Couch.
Let them come for the Ride,
let them get the biggest Stick they can find,
let them roll in the mud.
Let them Swim and enjoy the water,..because Time sure flies and they won't be here forever
In the Blink of an eye their time on Earth is done.
A Dog is not just an Animal, they're here to make you Smile.
Always there for you, they could care less what you look like,
or how much money you have.
They won't Judge you, or talk about you behind your back.
They Simply, Completely and Unconditionally Love you,
with all of their Heart, their Soul, their Being
And Forever, will be the absolute Best Friend you will ever have...
🙂🤍🐾💕
