🖤🦇 Goodmorning....
- 4 of the Orphan Red Babies are, not quite ready for creche cage but Also need sunshine and breeze under their wings.
I have fixed up this cage on my verandah that gets beautiful morning sun, for them to get a couple of hours of daytime weather safely.
They are Always a little nervous at first but then they start stretching and having a good time. At this stage they still come inside at night as it gets cold and are still learning to use the dripper self feeder.

🦇🖤 Little Red Flying Foxes are very intelligent , here My little boy Ringo is Already working out the dripper!.
After the babies have had their 7 pm evening feed . I put up some drippers of milk and some of diluted mango juice . This way when they are playing at night they can seek out the drippers and practice feeding. Some Batties get the "hang" 🤣 of it quicker than others.

🖤🦇Flying foxes are nocturnal of course . So after the Orphans have their 7pm milk feed , I make sure they get the chance to go in a play gym overnight.
It is still pretty cold here ,I hang heating pads and warm baby blankets around the sides at the bottom and over baskets. This way if they want to go back and curl up and hang in the warmth they can. They are checked on at midnight and if someone needs to go back in the humdicrib ,its ready.
Little Red Flying Foxes are small as it is ,so they can look tiny but are ready to explore and play. Soon I will get them use to self feeding drippers for through the night.
[ Please Pardon-- the dirty ropes!. It s their p**p. I change the ropes each season as I don't like to clean them with chemicals and water as they get mould on them in North Queensland. The babies can inhale the mould and get very sick. The ropes during the season are just wiped with vinegar and dried.]🖤🦇🖤🦇🖤🦇🖤🦇🖤🦇

☆☆I posted a few days ago ,that miss Poppet needed to be isolated at times[ this doesn't mean isolated completely from all her mates, just kept safe and comfortable at sleep times ] because she seeks out her sisters for comfort and latches on.
☆☆ This is why we need to keep an eye on the kids when there is multiple babies. See miss Chilli's ear. Sometimes baby Orphans will latch on or suck on their companions ears or body parts.
It mainly anxiety and to get comfort, but it needs to be addressed quickly as damage can be done. This ear isn't too bad ,it looks worse in the picture after chilli has had a warm bath. Her ear is saline washed and treated with antibiotic cream.
It is a reminder to watch the cheeky little buggers - not all their cuddling is healthy!

🦇 ..Well She looks innocent But.....Miss Poppet loves to seek out one of her sisters ( not brothers! )
And latch on tightly for comfort.
She now has to be put in the naughty corner of the cage where she can't find them.🖤🦇

▪︎▪︎I have done this one before -- but, seen as it is Little Red Flying Fox Birthing season in Townsville.
We have had an influx of Reds to our colonies.
Here I'm showing how easy it is to distinguish the 2 different bats roosting in the same park from a distance.
Black Flying Foxes like their personal space and will roost a body space apart.
Little Red Flying Foxes love to huddle. They are virtually roosting on top of each other. This is Also why we get more Red Flying Fox rescues, ( and Injuries! ) from Broken branches that come down in the winds.

🦇🖤 Little Red Flying Foxes are Fantastic Mothers!
They only give birth to 1 baby a year, By live ,placental births.( just like humans.) Twins happen but are not common. The babies hang in mums armpit where the mothers teat is. Therefore their chest area is up against their mums heart and chest and their feet firmly grab mums furry chest.
Mothers during the day ,when it's sleep time ,will groom babies and teach them grooming habits.
When we have Rescued Orphans, it's good to give them personal time and teach them grooming when Little- just like mum.
We have plenty of time to dehumanise the juvenilles once they get to the creche cage and self feeding.🖤🦇🖤🦇🖤🦇🖤🦇🖤 giving lots of love when Little does No harm.:))

☆☆☆ Its Important to realise when Little Red Flying Foxes need to get out of the humdicrib and onto a basket with a heating pad.
Info:: Little Red Fling Foxes generally as Adults are 3/4 the size of an adult Black Flying fox.
Eg. Little Red Flying Foxes - head to feet can be 12cm - 23.5cm.
Black Flying Foxes are 23cm - 28cm.
- Keeping this in mind the little Red Flying Fox orphan babies are much smaller in general than the Blacks.
They will look younger than they are at times.
When the little Red Flying Fox Orphans are rescued ,the weather is quite often cold and windy here in Townsville . Therefore they are initially made comfy in the humdicrib. You need to keep an eye on the babies ,as some will want to flap and stretch and move around alot quicker than others.[ and they may still look tiny:)) ]
Like in this video - Ringo and his Mate Jacko are slightly older than the little girls so the humdicrib can be restricting if they want to test their wings. This is where I transfer them to a basket with a heating pad hanging so they can move around if they want to.
