Welcome to Dogs Tasmania (TCA Inc) the organisation which administers all pure-bred canine activities in this State. These activities include shows and obedience trials, open to all breeds of dogs, and retrieving trials and field trials specifically for the Gundog breeds (Pointers, Setters, Spaniels, Retrievers & Utility Gundogs e.g Weimaraners). A number of obedience clubs also conduct Tracking T

rials, a relatively new discipline to the State. The Tasmanian Canine Association Inc is a member body of the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC), together with kindred organisations in each state/territory. The ANKC, in turn, is an associate member of the FCI - Federation Cynologique Internationale, the umbrella organisation for most of Europe, South America, most Middle Eastern countries, and the majority of African and Asian countries. The ANKC has close ties with the Kennel Club England, the American Kennel Club and the Canadian Kennel Club. The first dog show in Australia was held in Hobart Town in 1862 and, when the two organisation in the north and south, each administering dogs in the relevant area of the state, agreed to unite, the Kennel Control Council of Tasmania came into being in 1954 as the state body and, with the implementation of a fully-elected governing Council in February, 1995, the organisation changed its name to become the Tasmanian Canine Association Inc. The Tasmanian Canine Association Inc has forty-four (44) affiliated clubs, including Agricultural Societies, with the responsibility to conduct shows and/or trials on behalf of the Association. There is a show and/or trial held somewhere in the state each weekend throughout the year.

Did you know the showing of dogs is a very old past time/sport/hobby/persuit?
The earliest know recorded show was in 1859 in England at Newcastle upon Tyne
Town Hall.
🐕🐩You will all be very surprised to know the first show in Australia was held in Hobart in on November 13th 1862!
It attracted 91 dogs, and was held at Moore's Horse Bazaar. The event was organised by 'The Society for the Improvement in the Breed of Dogs" with the purpose to 'promote the improvement of purebred dogs and discourage the breeding of cross breds.'
The Smithfield Colleys also needed to heard a small flock of sheep. 🐑🐑🐑
Some of the breeds shows, Smithfields, Setters, Springers, Fox Terriers, Bull Dogs, Pointers and Newfoundlands.

Every year there is a National Junior Handler Final final to showcase our talented Junior handlers. It's made up of the winners in each State to compete against each other to be crowned Australia's Junior handler.
This year the lovely Mia Metzger is representing Tasmania at the finals on the 15th November in the ACT.

A little bit about Mia as written by her very proud grand mother Yvonne Metzger

'Mia began coming to shows when she was only 9 months of age, her love of dogs and all animals just comes naturally. A number of handlers and judges tell me she has soft hands. I am often reminded of the day at Ulverstone, when Mia kept asking when she could take Kwarla, her Pug into the ring, I said when the Toys have all finished. The judge that day was Peter Martin, on hearing our conversation, he graciously asked her to show her dog. She politely told him she didn't need his help to table her Pug, she completed her triangle and out and back perfectly, to which he gave her a best of breed ribbon for her efforts. Mia was 5 years old, there was no keeping her out of the ring.'

Mia has shown in numerous Junior handler heats, shown at The Sydney Royal, Pug Specialties and even titled her own Pug to it's Champion and then Neuter title. Mia's highlight so far was winning her age group at Sydney Royal when she was only 9 years of age.

Every year she has competed, in 2020 she won the State final, unfortunately there was no National Final due to COVID. This year is very special to her as she gets to represent her state Tasmania. All her family are very proud of her success in the ring, and the wider Tasmanian dog community wish her every success in the National on the 15th November.

Update on Rally rules.

The rules on the ANKC website are now correct. However the printable A4 version files of the signs may not be correct and there may be anomalies, so probably better to hold off a bit longer on printing them all. When they do get uploaded there will be 4 files, one for each separate level.

Nearly there, folks😁
