Welcome to Dogs Tasmania (TCA Inc) the organisation which administers all pure-bred canine activities in this State. These activities include shows and obedience trials, open to all breeds of dogs, and retrieving trials and field trials specifically for the Gundog breeds (Pointers, Setters, Spaniels, Retrievers & Utility Gundogs e.g Weimaraners). A number of obedience clubs also conduct Tracking T

rials, a relatively new discipline to the State. The Tasmanian Canine Association Inc is a member body of the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC), together with kindred organisations in each state/territory. The ANKC, in turn, is an associate member of the FCI - Federation Cynologique Internationale, the umbrella organisation for most of Europe, South America, most Middle Eastern countries, and the majority of African and Asian countries. The ANKC has close ties with the Kennel Club England, the American Kennel Club and the Canadian Kennel Club. The first dog show in Australia was held in Hobart Town in 1862 and, when the two organisation in the north and south, each administering dogs in the relevant area of the state, agreed to unite, the Kennel Control Council of Tasmania came into being in 1954 as the state body and, with the implementation of a fully-elected governing Council in February, 1995, the organisation changed its name to become the Tasmanian Canine Association Inc. The Tasmanian Canine Association Inc has forty-four (44) affiliated clubs, including Agricultural Societies, with the responsibility to conduct shows and/or trials on behalf of the Association. There is a show and/or trial held somewhere in the state each weekend throughout the year.

Adragondawg is the name of our kennel, a playful blend of our love for Welsh Springer Spaniels and the iconic dragon of Wales. It’s a bit cheeky, really, dragon dogs! But it suits our spirited crew perfectly.

Dogs have always been part of our lives. My husband has had Welshies for over 18 years, and with his passion for gundogs, they’ve always been a natural fit. I started out with German Shorthaired Pointers, another wonderful working breed. But everything changed when we met our beautiful Welshie girl. Her breeders saw something special in her and encouraged us to step into the show ring, and we did. That moment sparked a whole new adventure.

Welsh Springers have completely stolen our hearts. They’re endlessly entertaining, full of love, and just the right amount of clingy. I’m never alone with them around, and they make me laugh every single day. One of the most unforgettable moments was when our young girl we imported from New Zealand earned her title, won Best of Breed, and took Puppy in Group, all in one go. It was a magical day that we’ll never forget.

Although we’re relatively new to the dog show scene, we’re no strangers to the world of breeding and showing. I spent over 30 years involved with Connemara ponies, and the transition to dogs felt like a natural extension of that passion. Horses or dogs, it’s all about dedication, connection, and joy.

What keeps us coming back is the time we get to spend together. My husband now has his own show dog, a gorgeous little Fox Terrier who’s been doing incredibly well. Dog shows have also helped us build a wonderful community. Since I am not originally from Tasmania, it’s been a great way to meet new friends and feel part of something special.

Outside of dogs, our lives are full of adventure. We love camping (with the dogs, of course), cooking over a wood fire, and of all things, model trains! Four-wheel driving is another favorite pastime.

As for dream breeds, we already have ours. Welshies are everything we could ask for. They’re part of our family, and they go everywhere with us. They even love the snow! Whether we’re at the beach, in the show ring, or just relaxing at home, life with them is full.

🌈🌈🌈 ❤❤❤Ch Krystalaine Zara, lovingly known as Zara, was a beautiful Japanese Chin who brought elegance, charm, and confidence into my life. Though I didn’t choose her name myself, it suited her perfectly, graceful, poised, and unforgettable.

Zara was my very first show girl, and she opened the door to a world I hadn’t dared step into before. With her by my side, I found the courage to enter the show ring, and from that moment on, everything changed. She wasn’t just a show dog, she was my inspiration.

One of our most memorable moments together was at the Launceston Royal, where Zara won Champion Female Dog, triumphing over top dogs from the mainland. It was a proud and emotional day; one I’ll never forget.

Outside the ring, Zara was sweet and delicate, a picture of beauty, but when it came to food, she had no patience for sharing. Her feisty little side always made me laugh, and it was just one of the many things that made her so endearing.

Zara came from a special family. I had her litter sister, Ch Krystalaine Saki, who has also sadly passed, and I’m lucky to still have her other full sister, Krystalaine Shakira, now 13 years old and still going strong.

Zara taught me so much, not just about showing, but about love, trust, and the quiet strength of companionship. She gave me confidence, but more than that, she gave me her heart.

Her favourite thing, away from the spotlight, was heading to the beach and riding in her pram with her sisters, soaking up the sunshine and the breeze. Those simple moments were just as special as any ribbon or title.

Zara will always be remembered with deep love and gratitude. She wasn’t just a champion in the ring, she was a champion in my life.
