A floppy-eared beauty! This patient is undergoing treatment for chlamydia and receiving very special vet attention and care. Chlamydia in koalas is also referred to as "wet-bottom" due to the recurring issue of urine leakage and staining, resulting from incontinence. This condition can cause severe discomfort, and other debilitating symptoms. Early intervention and diagnosis is crucial.

You can support koalas like Ms S, via our website and even purchase virtual chlamydia testing kits, which help us test for chlamydia in our koala patients.

We love echidnas and this patient presented with a very sore beak. She will released back to the bush soon so that’s good news!

Did you know that echidnas have a unique way of regulating their body temperature? By blowing bubbles from their nose that burst over their nose tip and cool their blood through evaporation, their nose tip acts like an evaporative window!

If you hit an animal with your car, please stop and check the animal and your car. 🚘

This boy was hit on the South Eastern Freeway. The force of the collision pushed him up into the space next to the car radiator and he was trapped there for another 20km before the car broke down. The RAA were called out and the mechanic found the koala (kuula Kaurna) sitting in front of the car. The mechanic called his partner who by chance happened to be a SOWFI rescuer, and the koala was picked up and taken to SASH 24-hour vets. Unfortunately, his injuries were significant, and included a fractured paw and internal bleeding, and he was relieved of his suffering. 🐨 😢

Call SOWFI for any injured wildlife, any day, and any time on 7120 6610 and stay safe on our roads.

One of many patients from the week. This lovely female koala has been receiving vet care all week and can be quite vocal and determined when she wants to be! She has a tiny pinky on board as well which is always exciting. In recent weeks we have seen quite a few mothers needing our vet care and like the others, we hope for a good outcome. ❤️🐨❤️

Update of rescues

The roller coaster ride for the three rescue sheep and one little lamb has been two days of ups and down and up again.
Today the baby lamb had been a little quieter than normal and late afternoon a sudden drop.
I have just returned home from the vets with Roger, tests have been run on his urine and bloods taken with results back tomorrow.

This tiny baby has been through so much already and now he appears to be suffering gut problems causing immense pain.

Tonight is touch and go, and if no improvement over night further test will be carried out tomorrow.

Please keep Roger in your thoughts, he needs healing energy sent his way. 🙏🐑

We have a new guest in our tunnel flight. This young fella is underweight at only 2.7 kgs and not flying. He’s been x rayed and checked by a Vet. Wildlife Welfare Organisation brought him here to get him flying and gaining weight. Great to work together for the benefit of our wildlife. 🤗
