The horse you get off is not the same as the horse you got on; it's our job as riders to ensure that as often as possible the change is for the better

You may look at this video and say this mare is not perfect, nor is her movement perfect, but for me right now she is perfect and where I finish my ride ensures the point I made above, and then I'm doing my job as a rider 👌

Warning - long appreciation post coming!

Well the B'uck you Covid show held by WAPHA was a great day. I had the pleasure of showing 2 beautiful horses, Liz Ivankovich's DP Lazy on the Range - Logan, and Michelle, Pete & Sian's Red October - Vegas. Both horses went round with no fuss and were a pleasure to show! Special mention to the smoochy boy Logan who handled the day out like a pro, very proud of him!

Karlen Park clients also had a cracking day!

Michelle Roberts & Indi - this combo left me speechless, did an awesome Hunter walk/trot and then followed thru by winning the Have a go western walk/jog in a great class of horses!

Kylie Roberts & Mabel - this duo work so hard and have come a long way and Kylie's hands and feel continue to impress me, having Mabel go round relaxed is the goal and Kylie does incredibly well! Kylie & Mabel took 3rd place in the Have a Go western walk/jog, a very good result for this team.

Danielle Kilsby & Minnie - this combo have only been together for about 9 months and Dani's first venture into the 'western way'. This team get better and better and Dani's drive and commitment will ensure her success. Dani took out 2nd place in the Have a Go western walk/jog. Trail is going to be Dani's 'thing' - watching her ride quietly and calmly helps this mare enormously, lovely to see!

Whilst I was absolutely shattered last night, I am most grateful to those that choose to share this journey with me, truly appreciate your commitment, your trust and most importantly your friendship, bring on the next show 🙏 👏😘

Background - this is a green broke horse who has come to me for some basic education, he has been with me for about 4 weeks. He did not understand leg nor was he comfortable with my leg guiding his body and wanted to shoot out from under me when he felt the close contact of my leg. Instead of pulling on him to slow him down, I redirect that energy into an arc which he finds hard to hold therefore his feet slow down!
But the most important bit of this video is his reaction at the end of the clip - the exhale and the lick and chew, tell me he is okay and not worried about what just occurred!

A really good article for avid Showmanshipers! I love this class because anyone with enough passion and try can perfect it, but be prepared for minimum 12 months of work before you are truly ready to show your horse as a team in this event!

When it comes to Showmanship, there are some horse and handler pairs that make the discipline look effortless. They are precise, efficient, correct, and have a special flair that sets them apart from the rest.

However, there are certain things some Showmanship exhibitors do that make judges cringe. Here, a panel of four judges, with over 100 years of combined judging experience, and one AQHA Professional Horseman teamed up to build this list of 10 things judges would rather not see in the Showmanship pen. Then, our resident trainer will help explain how to address the issues.

Finally after a couple of false starts, Logan (DP Lazy on the Range) has been under saddle for about 4 or 5 weeks and is making good progress. Focusing on his balance and the rhythm and consistency of his stride at this stage and of course keeping him happy and relaxed through it all!

I am so over the moon, thank you for your professional service, your attention to detail and taking the time to explain it all to me, right down to how to rake it over, who thought I could get so much pleasure out of raking over an arena 😄

This is one more step ticked off on my Karlen Park journey, so excited!!
