The baby bands, put on at day-old, are elastic and designed to break off as the leg grows. Zip ties are unbreakable and will cut into the flesh of the leg if they’re not upsized as needed, so you’ve got to keep an eye on it if you’re going to use them for marking your birds, but they’re a cheap, painless and effective way to tag your birds.
