COMBINED WORKSHOP!!!
Resource Guarding and Grooming an Aggressive Dog

The workshop will be presented in 2 sections:

Resource Guarding (Trish Cavarra)
What is Resource Guarding all about? Why do some dogs resource guard and others don’t? How to manage resource guarding properly and safely. Session includes management strategies and training techniques for resource guarding dogs.

Grooming aggressive dogs (Kellie L’Hotellier)
Grooming an aggressive dog can be dangerous. Whether you area groomer or trainer, you will come across a dog that can become aggressive when being groomed. During this worship you will learn safe handling practices, techniques and counter conditioning processes to help you.

This combined session is ideal for dog trainers, groomers and dog owners.

The Details:

Date: Sunday 28th July 2024
Time: 8.30am to 3.30pm

Venue: Lort Smith Animal Hospital
25-35 Berwick Road, Campbelfield, Vic

Cost: $185 p/p

This is little Arly, owned and trained by one of our instructors Lisa

Nice little returns back to ‘heel’ position when she gets excited and forgets where she needs to be.

A little backstory by Lisa.

"Arly gets too excited when we walk in the corridors of the apartment and (as we know) can be reactive around other dogs that get in her face. So I keep her in a heel position as we approach the building and walk through the corridors. It means she has to focus on me which lowers her energy and, in turn, means a calmer response if we happen to meet another dog in the building.

The reason I don’t give her any instructions is because I want her to solve the problem and she knows where’s she supposed to be. If I let her walk out front with tension on the leash she’ll almost definitely make a bad decision."

This is EXACTLY why I say that mastering a loose lead walk with a reactive or aggressive dog is 70% of the equation!

We learned something very interesting today…thanks to the talk given by Kellie from Muddy Dogs Grooming at the Managing Dog aggression workshop…

In the USA if your dog has previously bitten a professional ie groomer, kennel staff, trainer etc and you then go to another professional and don’t disclose the information and your dog bites again, you can be charged with second degree assault!!
How awesome is that ?!

We need these kind of laws here in Oz but sadly won’t happen.
