4 great reasons to feed wet feed particularly in Winter!

1. Help to keep your horses water intake high to help prevent dehydration and potentially colic as there is moisture through their feed.

2. To reduce dust intake particularly in hay that may have sat for a while.

3. To drop out unnecessary sugars in hay.

4. To make sure any supplements etc aren’t wasted in feed.

Deadly Nightshade! This w**d that is HIGHLY TOXIC to all animals is currently rampaging around. It is super easy to pull out of the ground roots and all and my preference is to put it is the bin.

It has some other names with one of the prettiest, I think, being Belladonna. If you are a Game Of Thrones fan the first time it was mentioned throughout the series was in Season 1, Episode 4: Spoiler alert: Cercei was going to use it.

"Essence of nightshade is as dangerous as it is efficacious."
―Grand Maester Pycelle[src]

Essence of nightshade[1] is a medical substance used in small doses as an anti-anxiety formula, but large doses are fatal. A single drop added to a cup of wine will calm frayed nerves, and three drops will put a person into a deep, dreamless sleep. Ten drops, even diluted into a cup of wine, are fatal. When diluted, it will not change the color of what it is diluted into.

The nightshade plant is also related to the humble potato which is also part of the nightshade family 😱Pretty scary right!

It has been reported that just 3 of the berries can kill a horse if ingested.

Moral to the story:
1. Don't eat it!
2. Don't let your critters eat it!
3. Pull out the plants whenever you see them and dispose of them in the bin.

What Are The Benefits of Equine Massage?

✅Increased blood flow which helps muscles and organs to function better
✅Improved elasticity in muscles
✅Improved R.O.M. (Range Of Motion)
✅Helps in pain reduction
✅Improves your human/horse relationship (horsemanship)
✅Helps to prevent injuries

This is only the beginning of the list.

Equine Massage isn’t just for the ‘spooks’ that visit your horse to ‘fix’ them.

Equine massage is something that EVERYONE with a horse can and should learn to do easily, effectively and safely and I have a VERY effective course that can teach you how in 6 weeks!

Once upon a VERY long time ago I went to learn equine massage because I had a VERY broken horse. We had a rotational fall and had both injured ourselves. It cost me a few years and a LOT of money to learn these skills and it should never have been that complicated!!! I never got to ‘fix’ that horse either 😓

I am passionate about every horse owner knowing how to help their own horses feel good. If you want to learn more then you can message me. I promise I don’t bite or kick (much). 💫

What Are The Costs If You Sit On The Fence?

❌ Your horse misses out on the benefits listed above that you can give them
❌ You don’t get to gain a deeper connection with you horse
❌ You will continue to spend money having people come out to see your horse
❌ The price will only increase over time

Message me if you want to learn more and be the superstar for your horse 🐎❤️💫

07/11/2023

There is a lot of confusion surrounding 'Bodywork' in the equine industry. There is confusion between if you should call a massage therapist or 'chiropractor', or knowing when and where your horse is sore and lots of frustration in knowing how to help your horse.

One of the biggest problems is that you can get varying degrees of therapists and some that will just spend your money.

I know of therapists that will come out and for example; put an equissage machine on your horse (umm... hello... these are available to buy yourself right??); maybe tape them all over (because you can physically see something that may or may not be helping your horse); wave 'magic' wands over them; tell you to rub them with something in this spot or that; do ground exercises for a period of time which will 'fix the horse'.

Now I am not saying that any of this may or may not be appropriate or helpful to use at times, however, for the most part - you just want a safe, happy, pain free horse that you can RIDE!!

I don't often give horses time off. Why? It simply is unnecessary!

I want horses to be able to happily do their work and for you to enjoy your horses.

Have you ever gone for a ride on your horse, and they can't perform how they normally might? For example, they can't pick up a specific canter lead, can't bend as effectively to one side as compared to the other, maybe had some super out of character behaviour like bucking or pigrooting in a transition.

It's super frustrating right? Old school thinking was just to push them through but when that just doesn't work because there is some kind of physical restriction happening then as a horse owner you go into questioning mode.

Often you will turn to the internet for answers and even worse, Facebook forums to help answer your questions. Most of the time you want to know if you need a saddle fitter (and sometimes you do BUT they are always happy to sell you another saddle!), or who can recommend a chiro/massage therapist/bodyworker or SOMEONE that can help your horse. You can end up spending A LOT of money.

What if you could save yourself a whole lot of money, heartache and sleepless nights.

Even more, what if you could save your horse some pain?

An equine professional will cost you no less than $100 to come and see your horse. This can vary all the way up to $270 and beyond for a session and still get no difference in results.

My goal is for every person on the PLANET that owns a horse to learn how to give their horse a full body massage and do all of their stretches safely to help prevent pain, promote healing, increase performance, create deeper connections, have some knowledge they can easily acquire AND know if they have to call someone in for some extra help and because of the knowledge they have will be able to determine what person that should be.

I have created my BIGGEST discount to date and you can learn to do all of this BEFORE Christmas

The price of my courses, because they are so effective, have only been increasing as I can only support so many people at a time.

TESTIMONIAL:
'It's such a great course. It was all so easy to follow and even the things that were supposed to be difficult were simplified down to be very understandable.'

- Lara F-K

Discount Deadline is 13th November 2023 - NO RAINCHECKS - IT WILL NEVER BE REPEATED.

I began teaching people how to give their own horses a massage and stretch them safely back in 2012 via face-to-face clinics. In 2018, I took this training to the next level and worked out I could effectively provide a program to teach people 100% online meaning that I could help even more people to help their own horses feel good!

I have been a professional Equine Bodyworker focusing solely on the muscular and skeletal systems of the horse for the last 23 years! and in this time, I have worked on- and gotten results - on everything from paddock ponies to elite level showjumpers and dressage horses, racehorses including Group 1 winners and everything in between.

I have trained super stars Bodyworkers - due to demand.

I personally now focus on racehorses, both gallopers and harness, and elite level competitors working towards the highest levels in their respective disciplines and teaching people how to help their own horses' bodies and create amazing careers in the equine industry.

TESTIMONIAL:
Loved all of it! Easy to understand and implement. Great amount of support. Most importantly the content is useful!! Things I will keep coming back to again and again.

- Amy S

Here is the cost if you don't take action now?
The price will increase, and you will potentially keep wasting your money not knowing which professional can help your horse the most effectively.

Your horse will miss out on all the benefits you could be providing them with like pain relief, prevention of injuries and that deeper connection with you.

You will miss out on the opportunity to connect more deeply with your horse at this highly discounted price.

If you think you don't have time - you will never have the time (If you can spend just 20 minutes helping your horse 3 times per week you can be successful).

TESTIMONIAL:
Very easy to navigate and straight to the point which I love. Hands on and no carry on with all unnecessary content.

- Emma P

Here is what you need to do to take advantage of this offer - BEFORE the 13th of November 2023. Like this post and PM me then also send me an SMS on 0423 083 031 (so I don't miss the PM and I will send you a link with the discount code applied.

I would love to see you on the inside and help you to help your horses feel amazing! And all before Christmas!

Worth another share: Linseed & Millet Porridge for Horses (Good for Human's too!) Recipe:

* Great for worms, sand removal, gut mucilage, mineral profile etc. More information on this below the recipe.

Cooking Linseed and Millet Porridge for the horses.

Place in slow cooker:
* 1.5 cups linseed
* 1.5 cups of white french millet
* 3 litres of water

Turn slow cooker on low and cook for 5-7 hours.

It becomes a lovely gel like consistency, particularly as it cools and is very economical.

It contains correct Omega 3 & 6 ratios too and lots of minerals - winning!

I feed 1-2 soup ladles to each of my horses daily.

Also, laminitis friendly!

It has a good protein profile, calories from fat, not starch (hence a cool conditioner), and high Silica from the millet, to activate Calcium and Magnesium for healthy bones and hooves. But it also is abundant in mucilage which hydrates the gut, and the seeds gives the gut a “friendly sweeping” getting rid of accumulated sand, grit, worms (dead & alive), making it a wonderful drought feed, also an excellent winter feed in colder climes. It is also a proven sand colic preventative and helps to reduce the amount of roughage that you need to feed. - Reference: Victoria Ferguson.

Millet contains especially high levels of organic silica compounds as well as carbohydrate and many other minerals. Silica is the key to balancing the calcium scaring that occurs in conditions like ringbone.

Linseed - is specific nourishment for strength and elasticity of ligaments and attachment points and is a whole feed source of Omega 3 and 6 and Linoleic acids. Reference: McDowell’s Herbal

Do you know what the VERY BEST treats for your horse are?

Ok... Hands Down... Carrots WIN! I will explain why.

Carrots contain high levels of Vitamin A - 100 grams of carrot has around 1,670 IU of Vitamin A and a horse requires around 1,500 IU per day.

They can get the Vitamin A from pasture but not if they are boxed or on a hay only diet. They also contain a moderate amount of Vitamin C - around 5.9 mg and are also ANTIINFLAMATORY! - Yep you actually read that correctly.

What that means is that even fatties, EMS, laminitic horses and ponies can enjoy carrots.

If your horse doesn't love carrots already then you can wean them onto carrots by starting with small pieces or grating into their feed.

Best of all, carrots are rather inexpensive to feed.

I realise you may not know me, so I wanted to introduce myself and allow you to get to know me a bit better.

Who Am I?

I am a horse lover and rider who started riding at the age of 7. I didn't grow up in a horsey family, but I was absolutely obsessed by horses. I of course had every 7-year-olds dream of going to the 'Olympics!'. Anyway, you haven't seen my name there so save to say my path forward has been different. I have competed in dressage, eventing, team penning, team sorting, polocrosse (terrifying!) and my absolute love is for endurance riding and generally spending as much time as possible with my horses.

I live with my partner, 2 kelpies, 3 horses (Luna didn't make it to the pics below), 3 cats and 3 chickens on a 13-acre property in NSW. I am now 48 years old and yes, I'm still horse obsessed.

My Equine Bodywork Career:

I have been a Professional Equine Bodyworker for 23 years and practiced on a LOT of horses in the early days - basically any and all that I could get my hands on!

My current day clients consist primarily of racehorses - both harness and galloper's, elite level showjumpers and elite level dressage horses. I am lucky enough to work on Group 1 winners in both racing codes and horses vying for Olympic selection (so I could yet make it to the Olympics! - Just NOT as a rider). I also work on other horses that I love and who's owners I adore because they care about their horses. I see all their ponies (read horses) as my ponies (again read horses - even though some genuinely are ponies) and my love and care for them exists as though they are my own.

This post is already proving to be quite long so I will share more on how I started and what I do down the track.

I hope this has allowed you to meet me - virtually - a bit more.

Have a Horse'some Day!

Kim - CEO & Founder of Equiphoria xx

PICS:

1. These are my current beauties: Quarter Moon Jake's A Rebel a.k.a. Jake, who is now 29 years young and living his very happy best life, and his best friend 297 Sonata a.k.a. Sonny (you may recognise her from the videos - she is my supermodel!) who is my purebred Lipizzaner mare, now 12 years young, and my dream horse.

2. Sonny at accreditation as a young horse in where she topped the Australian Accreditation under an international judge.

3. Opening ceremony parade of Polocrosse World Cup, where I worked on over 100 horses over a 2-week period at Warwick, QLD in 2019 for some phenomenal results picking up horse of the match in over 90% of the games and men's and women's horse of the carnival, and overall horse of the carnival.

4. One of my superstar harness horses that I work on, Gordon's Bay, trained by James Rattray, winning a back-to-back $100,000 race by a HUGE margin.

The 'What Wardrobe is my Horse Wearing Dilemma?'

Today it is definitely proving it's Winter! And the Southeast of Australia is getting a cold blast. One common thing I see when Winter shows up is people feeling the cold and automatically assuming that your horse is too!

Rugging does not prevent a horse growing their own Winter Coat - That is a myth. It may only be slightly finer than an un rugged horse.

A horse will grow a coat based on the light received in their eyes, which is why very often racehorses that have their stable lights turned on very early in the morning will have a finer coat. A horse might have the appearance of not growing as thick a Winter coat when rugged as the hair lays flat under the rug and when you take the rug off it will appear to be smoother.

Over rugging your horse can cause all sorts of issues. I see skin conditions come up in the Winter from too many rugs as well as rubs causing by rugging, usually from incorrect fit plus when Springtime comes particularly if your horse has been turned out there can be some major weight changes that may have potentially gone unnoticed.

A horse can handle very cold temperatures compared to a human. They have their own built-in thermostats. Have you ever noticed a horse's coat standing on end and making them appear fluffier when it's cold?

By over rugging we can interfere with the natural homeostasis of the horse. That's just a fancy word meaning that a horse can self-regulate their internal temperature so that it remains correct, even when the weather changes.

There are some rules that do however affect rugging.

* If you clip your horse in Winter so they dry quicker after work, then you need to provide correct and balanced rugging and essentially manage the horse's temperature yourself

* Horses that are in a full-time stable environment also need to be rugged appropriately as they don't have the opportunity to huddle together or run around to warm up.

* Very old horses who might lose condition in cold periods as they might not have the fat stores or muscle tone to help keep them warm.

* A horse that is medicated may need to be provided with some manual extra warmth.

* In periods of heavy or prolonged rain you may need to rug as the cold can get deep and flatten their natural coat.

Either way, the point here is to help you make a more informed decision on what your horse might need to wear and monitor them often for both weight gain and loss and their own personal needs.

Have a Horse'some Day and Stay Warm! 🐴❤️

There is probably no bigger names in Tasmanian Harness Racing history than skilled reinsman James Rattray and the Tasmania's most decorated horse Beautide; the distinct combination winning back to back Interdominions and a Miracle Mile at Menangle. It is the stuff that dreams are made of and no doubt changed the life of everyone involved with the 'Tassie Terminator, particularly the Rattray Family.
James, the twin brother of Tassie's Gareth ventured across the 'ditch' to NZ for 2 years aftert getting his licence and worked for one of the best in the business New Zealand horseman, Tony Herlihy which set the young James on the road to success. After coming home to Tassie for a short time he then travelled to America to Noel Daley which was another great learning experience. James now has a small farm outside Sydney where he has 20 horses in his stable. Whereyabinboppin has been a good pick up and is the star of the stable at present, however James says he has a few promising 2 and 3YO's as well.
James has been sponsored for the pink pants campaign by Kim who owns Equiphoria Equine Bodywork & Equine Business Coaching and joins his two brothers, Gareth and Todd for 2023 Pacing for Pink in May. A big thank you to Kim for your wonderful support of this great cause; it is the generosity of people such as yourself that will help Pacing for Pink fund a McGrath Breast Care Nurse again this year.

A MESSAGE about worming your horse.

A full moon is on its way and it is well documented that parasitic activity is higher on a full moon therefore it is more effective to worm on a full moon to help reduce worm burden in your horses.

I am a fan of getting an F.E.C. (faecal egg count) done prior to worming as the chemicals in modern wormers can upset your horse's digestive system and even more so if they have active ulcers or are prone to ulceration.

Apparently, many people also underestimate the weight of their horses (let's not fat shame them... LOL) so below is information taken directly from VIRBAC on how to calculate your horse's weight more accurately and not underdose them... and don't forget what they spit out all over you!

This is information on how to calculate your horse's weight direct from VIRBAC.

'Most people underestimate their horse’s weight by as much as 20%. Underestimating a horse’s weight can lead to underdosing. Giving a horse less than the required dose of wormer can leave them at risk of worm-related disease as potentially worms will be left untreated within the horse. Underdosing can also encourage the development of resistance in your horses by exposing the worms to sub-lethal doses of wormer. It is therefore vitally important to correctly estimate your horses’ weight when deciding on the correct dose of wormer to give them. It is in fact preferable to give horses a slight overdose rather than an underdose. There are several methods for finding out a horse’s weight, the most accurate obviously being a set of scales. As most horse owners to not have easy access to horse scales, there are several other methods that horse owners can use to get a good estimate of their horses’ weight. The use of the weight estimation formula will give a reasonably good estimation of most horses’ weight. The formula is:

Let’s kill the confusion about worming your horses? 🤔

Many people over worm their horses and this can build a tolerance to the pastes we use and therefore make them ineffective. 😭

Some people are taught to worm every 6 weeks, others on change of season. I am still shocked at how many horse owners aren’t aware of faecal egg counts (FEC’s). 🫢

This graphic by Virbac (thank you 🙏) is an awesome visual of how to correctly worm your horses to reduce worm burden. I know they are trying to sell you products but this is truly VERY good 👍

Worming paste is a poison of sorts and can also upset your horses guts so please just stick to the guidelines, worm when you have to in order to protect your fur babies and get your FEC’s done ✅

Spring is finally here (yay!) and yes NOW is the time to worm your horses.

Something this graphic doesn’t show is - if you are able to worm your horse and then in 36-48 hours move them to a clean paddock and clean up their old paddock this will help your paddock health and keep your worm burden lower 🪱🌸

ARE YOU ALL STOCKED UP ON CARROTS?? 🥕🥕

Today is the official Horse's Birthday 🥳

What I love about carrots as a snack of choice for your horse is that they are suitable for ALL horses regardless of if they 'aren't allowed sugars'. As well as this - 100 grams of carrot provides all of your horses Vitamin A requirements for a day so great for horses that are boxed full time or have limited access to grazing pasture.

I am Very privileged to look after horses bodies and be trusted with them and today I was lucky enough to watch 11 of the horses bodies that I personally look after doing a fantastic job! I am grateful to the trainers 😁 This has to have been a highlight of the day seeing Teddy a.k.a Hilux a.k.a Kahleej trained by John Rolfe (and of course Sophie Rolfe & Jenney Rolfe) doing the thoroughbred rendition of the Spanish Walk because he was ‘excited’ to get on track 😂 He ran 3rd 👍
