Monday mornings 🙄
It must be a Monday thing! Cayos is telling me that he isn’t in the mood for me to start his muscle stim and clean up his eyes. He’s thinking about it though and tempted by the food! I usually give him time to think about it and if he’s really not keen we just pack up and try again later. It’s important that we give our dogs choice with things like this as it builds trust and cooperation. Have a great Monday everyone!
Senior boy Cayos
We haven’t posted Cayos for a while. He’s 13.5 now and happily retired on our acreage. To maintain his mobility he has fortnightly physio with Susan Yuen and I use a tens machine to do muscle stim. In the video here, I got up early before work in the hope to have some quiet time with Cayos. It didn’t quite go to plan, but at least I had some help! You can’t see the tens unit in this machine, but I’m training 2 at once! When the muscle stim increases it feels like a tingling sensation so Cayos gets higher value treats when it feels uncomfortable. This encourages him to sit quietly, and he gets treats for that, but gets higher value treats for the things that are more challenging for him. This technique can apply to most areas of training. This is why we always encourage people to bring high value soft fresh treats to training classes because it’s more challenging in a different environment with different people, dogs, and distractions.
