Sweet little Loki made a new friend at Puppy Class....the equally-sweet Henry! 😍
Loki and Henry enjoyed each others company whilst learning new skills, sniffing out snacks and getting to know new humans.

Unbelievably this was our final Saturday Puppy Class for 2024 and what a sweet little class to end on!
I bet both puppies were very sleepy for the rest of their Saturday morning 🥰 😴

They say time flies when you're having fun! 🫢🥳 We just can't believe we are heading in to our final weekend of classes for the year! It sure has been a fun year meeting and helping so many puppies, dogs and their people! 🐶🥰

🐶Loki and Oscar 🐶

Gorgeous little Loki is a shy puppy when it comes to interacting with other puppies. He prefers to meet people (which is great!) and certainly doesn't wish to engage in play with other puppies at the moment (this may change).
Oscar the Mini Dachshund helped Loki to feel safe and social in his company at class on Saturday! Minutes before, Oscar had been playing Bitey-Wrestling games with puppy Kane (see previous post) but was able to adapt his behaviour to suit Loki. By being calm and slowing his movement, Oscar was able to help build Lokis confidence so that they could hang-out together. Of course, all of the humans at class helped with this too, guiding their puppies and managing such diverse interactions.

Making friends and having fun at Teen Puppy Class! This group did such awesome work with their onlead training that they were able to enjoy some offlead time together.

Kane and Oscar having loads of fun at Puppy Class! 😍
When puppies are interacting or playing we are always looking to make sure the play is mutual/reciprocal.
Not all puppies are suited to each other and some require lots of guidance. Little Loki was also here but it was his first day and he wasn't ready to engage in play. He was able to hang back and observe.
These boys play beautifully together and include lots of to and fro, taking turns, biting and mouthing, handicapping, pauses, and only small bursts of chasey in their play.
Bitey-face, rolling in the grass, romping round the christmas tree & hide 'n' seek between the hay bales were their games of choice 😄👏

We understand this can be a busy time of year for many people. This is why we are offering a FLEXI enrolment for Puppy Classes! If you are unable to commit to 4 consecutive weeks on a certain day over the festive period, it doesn't mean your new puppy has to miss out on all the benefits and fun of attending Puppy Classes.

🐕This option is available for puppies who start before 11 weeks of age and who are NOT fully vaccinated.
🎄This offer is limited to December/January only.

Puppy classes during the critical socialisation period are vital for healthy development of a puppy. You will never again get such an important period of time in your dogs life.

Does your puppy need to go to Puppy School if you have another dog at home?
We get asked this regularly and the answer is yes!
Why?
🐶Adult dogs interact differently to puppies and while this can be a positive learning experience for your pup, some adult dogs don't wish to engage in play with puppies. This is perfectly understandable but your puppy misses out on learning play skills in this scenario.
🐶Interacting with various breeds, sizes and personalities is important for developing social skills
🐶 Time-apart from other dog/s in the home encourages independence
🐶Playing or interacting with other puppies helps develop vital communication skills. What is appropriate and what isn't?
🐶 Bite inhibition can be partly taught through well-managed and suitable play with conspecifics

Choose your puppy school well though! A free-for-all-run-amok play session is not always the best option for developing the above skills. A well run puppy class which involves a mix of basic training plus guided and managed puppy interactions is a better bet for developing your puppy in to a politely social individual.

"The sooner you start this process, the better. Puppies get progressively more fearful of new and unfamiliar things and experiences as they get older. If your pup seems completely comfortable being handled, that's wonderful, but you shouldn't take it for granted. If you do proactive handling with your pup, they will stay that way, but if you neglect these exercises, they will probably grow less comfortable with handling over time."
