Parker Posey, Isla Fisher, Mrs Mangle and José. Chicken rescue, the only pets where your appreciation for all the vet bills and stress is when they s**t on you, and you're just happy that they had a healthy bowel movement 😆. Isn't that right? José is still going strong at 11 years and has fallen in love with new arrival Mrs Mangle (spot the haircut). Parker Posey has recovered really well from her surgery and has a solid molt going on. Thanks again to everyone who helped me save her life! She's so happy, even on the implant (suprelorin).

Today I feel to write a little visibility post for myself and all the other animal rescuers and activists in whichever form it takes. I just need to acknowledge the ongoing work, frustration, worry and overwhelm that goes with animal rescue and animal sanctuary work, even one as small as mine. Behind the scenes there are days when you work for ages cleaning mud, battling water and damp, medicating multiple sick birds, filling up water bowls only to have them immediately dirtied by a well meaning chicken who accidentally dumps it on the ground. The number of times you have to redo a task or start all over again because of extreme weather, chickens being chickens or unavoidable problems. The overwhelm and hopelessness that can turn up is real, those who've felt it will know... nursing an animal back to health only to have another one get sick immediately. Trying to do something for yourself only to have to cancel last minute ( feeling bad at having to do that) because of an animal emergency. It's a calling with many blessings, and we do it because we want to, I'm not being a victim here. But sometimes I think we all just want to be seen in our struggle, mental, emotional, financial and just being acknowledged for hugeness of this overwhelming task of animal rescue, of which there appears to be no end in sight. Stay strong, breathe deep, one day at a time. Peace out, Cacey at Freyas Farm.

Donations gratefully accepted for Parker Posey.
At first glance she looks ok but unfortunately this recently rescued girl is suffering from the dreaded EYP, or egg yolk coelemitis. She found her way to me this week through a kind soul that adopted her from the Animal Welfare League. Being that they weren't chicken experts, they didn't realise she had EYP, and although she seems otherwise healthy, she's going to need surgery to remove the thick liquid, as it's past being able to drain it as we usually would. She has a better than average chance of recovery, which is why I've decided to fund raise for her surgery at the Unusual Pet Vet.
Please donate at my website PayPal link under www.seahorseoracle.com 'charity', or direct transfer can be made, but I have new bank details now, so check with me. Let's pull together and get Parker her $2000 so she can have a new start with me here! Her story could just be beginning. X Cacey at Freyas Farm

Update on Wally :
For those of you in love with Wally , and yes he has a big fan club... here we go. Tentatively good news after completing his antibiotics this morning. He started eating on his own yesterday, and making noises, preening himself. As the vet suggested, it's possible this will happen with the anti biotics, and then if there is a more sinister secondary condition, he may go downhill again after the anti biotics cease. So we won't know for sure for another week or so.
He's put on weight and is generally more of his chirpy self.
For the herb nerds his treatment protocol alongside the anti biotic treatment was
Daily: 10 drops bidens pilosa tincture, 10 drops echinacea tincture, 10 drops sea moss mineral tincture, 10 drops Nettle tincture, 10 drops chamomile tincture, ginger powder, olive leaf powder, a pea sized portion of raw honey, about 1 ml of Aloe Vera juice, half a teaspoon of dandelion tea, combined in baby bird feeding formula and crop fed morning and night with soluvit D vitamin water. All alcohol tinctures were first diluted in boiling water to evaporate the alcohol off as alcohol is very bad for birds obviously. Never attempt to crop feed unless you have been shown by a vet and are confident as you can accidentally drown them if you get it down the wrong hole.
Continued prayers and love please for Wally's continued recovery. 10 years young ❤️

Poor little Wally is not feeling well at present. Please send him some healing love.
He's getting some anti biotics and herbs, thanks to the wonderful people at the Unusual pet vets in Buderim. Not sure what is wrong with him at this stage. I rescued him over 10 years ago so he is no longer a young gentleman. X Cacey

Can anyone give these girls a loving forever home in the Donnybrook rd, Cloverton area/

Disclosure: For those who are wishing to obtain these birds for their eggs; these girls are at the end of their egg laying production and should be going to loving homes where they will receive proper on going medical treatment. Most will have long term health issues as a result of their selective breeding and exploitation of the egg industries. These birds have suffered enough and must only go to homes that can provide them with the upmost love and care they deserve.

⚠️Can anyone can give these poor girls a loving home? 🥺 please share and tag anyone you might think can help. There are currently 500 birds needing homes. This ad was posted this morning from a livestock breeder. Please try and negotiate free surrender. Link below will take you to the listing or call him directly to organise pickup 0412533934

Update on Whisper's journey this week..
She was very unwell and after having treatment on Tuesday we gave her a few days to see if she was going to rally before I went ahead with giving her a hormone implant for her reproductive tumour.
After 5 days, she has improved significantly on the meds and proved she wants to live, so today I got her implant for her so she can continue to heal. Often these implants can stop reproductive tumours from getting bigger and settle them down, allowing the hen to be comfortable and get back to normal chicken business!
With that in mind, I am convinced Whisper now has a good chance of recovery.
Her vet bill for this journey has been quite high so any donations at this time are very welcome.
Thank you for supporting me, so I can continue to heal them, and make their short lives worth living. Lots of love, Cacey and Whisper at Freya's Farm Chicken Sanctuary.

Update on Whisper, she has improved this morning after receiving sub cut fluids, antibiotics and anti inflammatories yesterday at the vet. If she survives the week, she is a candidate for a suprelorin implant which will help her out with a reproductive tumour which was located yesterday in her abdomen. Poor girl.
To donate to assist me with Whisper's vet care and homeopathic treatments please see the link below. Best blessings, Cacey and Whisper

Hello Freya's Farm family, Donations gratefully accepted for Whisper.

Sadly Whisper isn't doing well. I have been trying to treat an upset tummy with her for 2 weeks but we have no improvement. She's going to get a sample done at the vet today and hoping to get a diagnosis, she's in with a heat pad and the homeopathic meds at the moment, please wish us luck today. I have no idea what's wrong with her, but it hasn't responded to the normal treatments, could be simple, could be something nasty. Boo, and after I just got Daisy well again. Sometimes when the seasons change it triggers illness in the flock, because a change in the weather can cause lurking problems to surface. I will keep you updated. Please donate via PayPal at the Charity page on my website, or transfer if you have my details. Expected cost of this visit is somewhere between $150 and $250. As I've moved to another area, my new vet is full price, my last vet gave discounts to me as I'd been a long term client, although I am happy with all treatments from the new vet so far.. Best blessings, Cacey and Whisper at Freya's Farm.

Thank you to all who donated to Daisy and Bronte's vet bill. Daisy was successfully implanted with suprelorin and is on her anti biotics starting today. She got extra treats for being a brave girl. Sadly Bronte has an inoperable tumour and after the consult today she is in palliative care now for the rest of her days. Lots of watermelon and all her favourite things, mixed in with healthy stuff and pain relief when necessary. I'm so relieved and happy to say that we received amazing care and treatment at the Nambour Bird Vet. It's always nerve wracking going to a new vet. I will keep you all updated with Daisy as she settles in to kick this infection and wait for her hormone implant to kick in. She is in good health, so I am conservatively optimistic. Good night from us at Freya's Farm Chicken Sanctuary.

Daisy is unfortunately showing signs of egg yolk coelimitis, a common reproductive issue with ex battery and laying hens. She needs treatment from a vet, having recently relocated after the floods, our vet fund is low. If you can help donate to her vet bill we would be very grateful! www.seahorseoracle.com, charity page has a PayPal link where you can safely donate, or transfer to me if you are a long term supporter and have my details already. Thanks so much for the ongoing support! Cacey and Daisy
