CONGRATULATIONS to these Nelson Bay puppy graduates. These pups and their humans threw themselves into learning, practising and transferring their skills to home and the outside world. This was Boston’s second lesson, working on his reactivity to other dogs and to humans. His humans have worked very hard on the special strategies they learnt in their first lesson. Because of this, Boston was able in this lesson to practise lying calmly with another dog in view. Our goal in the next lesson will be to shorten the distance between the two dogs and have them moving around which will be a greater distraction. Our overall aim is to help change the reactive dog’s emotional response when they see other dogs. Our motto? Slow and steady wins the race!

FERN BAY GOOD MANNERS GRADUATION: Congratulations to this hard-working bunch who attended all 6 lessons, practised new strategies at home during the week and remarked on the progress of each other’s dogs as the course progressed. We can’t wait to meet you all again in our next level course that includes bigger extension activities and some agility training. KOLTEN and his humans have been working really hard to reduce his reactivity on the leash. They’ve done this through stuctured individual lessons and now have graduated to small group classes. Each week Kolten gets closer to where the group is working, is able to respond when his humans ask for focus and is able to lie calmly just watching the dogs in the class. Naturally we’re all thrilled! This is what Kolten’s humans had to say yesterday, after his third group lesson:

Paws up for our latest East Maitland Puppy Class—YOU DID IT! 🎓🐶

After four weeks of tail wags, treats, and training, this amazing group has officially graduated! These superstar pups (and their awesome humans) worked hard each week, mastering basic skills, focus exercises, and all-important desensitization. 🐾✨

Congratulations to Katie the German Shepherd rescue dog who is ready to join our Reactive Rehab group. She has been working tirelessly with her human for a while now to reduce her reactivity on the lead. In this lesson she coped very well settling and engaging in mindful activities at a her comfortable distance from Lakota. Reactive Rehab is all about gradually changing the dog’s previous negative emotional responses when they see other dogs on the lead. Welcome to our special little group, Katie! 😍🐾
