Here are 5 top tips from the team at Equinade to prepare your horse for those cold, wet Winter months.

1. Prevent hoof and skin problems - With antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, Equinade Hoof & Skin Salve is not only formulated to treat and protect against infections of the hooves, but can be useful in the treatment of minor skin irritations such as rain scald, girth rash, small cuts and abrasions. Such a handy product to have on hand in both winter and summer!

2. Keep your tack protected from wet conditions – Equinade Leather Dressing will help to water proof your leather items, such as boots and saddles, to keep everything dry in the wet.

3. Re-proof cotton canvas rugs – Over time and many washes, your cotton canvas rugs will lose their waterproof barrier. This means that rain and moisture can seep through and reach your horse and other rug layers, leaving them damp and cold. Equinade Rug Seal will re-proof cotton canvas rugs, helping to leave your horses warm and dry. Rug Seal will also help to resist rot and mildew, meaning your rugs will have a longer life.

4. Maintain hoof moisture balance – Wet , cold and damp conditions can wreak havoc on your horses hooves, as they can over absorb moisture and become damaged and prone to infections and thrush. Application of Hoof Grease or Hoof L**e daily will not only protect hooves, but also keep them strong and resilient.

1. Stop mould growth – Damp, wet conditions can cause mould to grow on and ruin your leather tack. After cleaning leather goods, give them a light spray with diluted Equinade Heavy Duty Disinfectant, allow to dry thoroughly, and then oil or condition as normal. The active ingredient, “Quarternary Ammonium Compounds” will kill mould and inhibit future mould growth.
