Scruffer Lovers Inc. is a registered charitable organisation dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation of dogs.

Scruffer Lovers was founded in 2006, to assist the Murray Bridge council pounds in rehoming pound dogs rather than the dogs being euthanised. Fast forward to 2021, our base is now in metropolitan Adelaide and we take in dogs from all over South Australia as far as the APY Lands and down to the Eyre Peninsula. We take in dogs with varying behavioural issues and work alongside Veterinary Behaviouris

ts, Behavioural Trainers and accredited trainers to ensure positive outcomes for these dogs. Our large foster carer base enables us to place dogs in loving homes with experienced foster carers who work with us to prepare the dogs for their forever homes. We have veterinarians who assist us with microchipping, vaccinations and health checks. They also assist us with the dogs who have medical issues, and their support enables us to achieve good medical outcomes. Some dogs come to us with a terminal illness, and we place them in medical foster homes to see out their lives in a loving home. When the time comes to have them put to sleep, their carers are there with them in their last moments. is constantly growing and reaching out to veterinarian specialists and training experts to assist us to rehabilitate all the dogs coming into rescue. We pride ourselves in the animal welfare standards that we uphold by ensuring each animal is treated as an individual whose needs are our top priority.

My name is Stella. I’m part Sharpei, part Staffy, and all Love. I’m not even a year old yet, but I’ve had to grow up fast. I had puppies. I know, I’m still a puppy too!

So, my puppies are going to be very well looked after in nice homes with nice humans. I would like some of that for myself now too, please.

I’m not sure about cats, or other dogs just yet. I mean, I’ve been busy with my own stuff, you know. But I’m not destructive or fussy. I’m housetrained and cuddly. I just want to be loved. And fed!

I have been good with the children that I have met but have not lived with one at this stage.

Foster to Adopt

You’ve seen nature docos, right - the ones with goats running sure-footed up gravelly mountains, bats nimbly avoiding obstacles in the dark, deer leaping gracefully mid-run - and thought “animals are amazing!” yes? Well, yes we are. But some of us are also a little clumsy.

I’m Edith. I am 12 months old and I’m a bit of a clutz. I’m sure it’s just a phase, but I am known for hitting my head and tripping over things.

Still, I am adventurous and friendly. I equally love a swim in the river and a cuddle on a couch. I’m not too bad on a lead and I’m working on getting better. I love meeting new people and get very excited about it. I like to jump up and get a good close look.

I like to sleep indoors and get up early – around 6am. I’d rather not live with other dogs right now, but I would very much like to live with some loving humans. Specifically, I’m on the hunt for a foster to adopt home.

I’m adorable, a bit clumsy, and very entertaining. Call me.

What does my ideal forever home look like? Well, it will have a nice backyard. I am very active, and I love to play. I also like a daily walk, to check out what’s going on locally and say hi to the neighbours.

Inside my forever home there will be a nice warm cosy bed. Gosh it gets cold at night sometimes, doesn’t it? I really like to burrow in and snuggle up. I like my jumper for cold days too.

Also, there will be a lovely human, or maybe more than one! This human(s) will be my family and will love and care for me like family. And that means FOOD!

I like food. I’ll do almost anything for food. So training me is easy. I already know sit and stay, and I’m toilet trained.

Hey all you Lovers in Scruffer Land! This is Ace talking to you. I’m a Staffy cross boy with a lot to say. See how I’m sittin’ and stayin’, being all good and stuff? You could give me a treat now… if you want.

See, that’s how I learnt all this cool stuff. Treats! Turns out that food is my love language. That, and the fact that I’m very smart, makes me easy to train. I know a lot of stuff already. I am keen to learn more.

I’m 10 months old now – fit, healthy, and energetic. I have many hobbies. My best thing is fetch! I could play all day. A close second is tug of war. I also love playing in water, chewing stuff, and digging. I would like walks more if I was better on a lead. Maybe you could help with that?

I need to find a home. I need to find someone, not with little kids, who has time on their hands and love in their heart to lavish on me – you know, to teach me all the things, and give me all the treats. I am toilet trained and can be packed in minutes.

Dusty's carer is having to go interstate and dusty is in URGENT need of a new place to stay.

What has little white socks, long slender legs, a smile that melts hearts, and is looking for a forever home? That’d be me. Dusty.

Hi! I’m a Staffy, so you know I am smart and energetic. I’ve just turned nine months old, so you know I am playful and lots of fun. And I have had all my vet work done, so I’m good to go when the right person comes along.

Who is the right person, you ask? Well, you might be! I don’t have a lot of special needs – just love and patience. If you can give me that, and some treats sometimes, a nice marrow bone for example, and take me for a walk, I reckon that’d do it.

I’m a really good boy. I promise! I don’t bark unless there’s a very very good reason. I walk nicely on a lead. I play nicely with others – even cats! Granted, I haven’t met a lot of other dogs yet, but so far so good. And I’m learning boundaries with kids.

I like being with people. I mean, that’s what life is all about, right? Togetherness? I like to sleep in your room, so I don’t miss a moment of your morning. I’m an early riser. I don’t mind staying on my own for a while if I have to but expect a full-on welcome home!

Howdy everyone my name is Harley! I am almost 2 years old! But I still act like a puppy because as they say age is just a mindset 😉

I love everyone! I will follow you everywhere if you let me!! I’m an active boy and love running, going for walks but most importantly I LOVE cuddling up with you on the couch after a fun and busy day!

My foster pawrents say that I learned a lot while being in care so why not meet me and I can show you just how smart I am!!?
I am still learning to not jump when I first see my humans and most of the time I will correct myself but it’s so hard when I’ve missed you and I just want to show you how much I love you! But with constant training I’ll be the best mannered puppy you will ever meet!
I’m a big foodie but I will sit and wait until you give me the command “eat”!

I must tell you a little problem I have but please don’t let this stop you from loving me!
You see I haven’t had many dog friends in my life so when I see one on our walks I can get a bit loud only because I want to play but I didn’t learn my manners when being around other dogs and get too overwhelmed. So for now I need a home where I’m the only dog!
My perfect home would be somewhere with a BIG yard for me to run around in, older kids are best suited for me because I’m a big boy, I need someone who will give me mental stimulation because I’m known to get up to mischief if I’m bored and chew things.

I love my apples and carrots so if you want a healthy and energetic dog to love here I am! We can play so many games and have so many cuddles so please come and meet me!!

Hi there, I'm Bondi; a kelpie mix pup with a lot to learn. Could you be the one to teach me?

I have started my journey with a few basic life skills. I can sit and have taken to crate training like a duck to water. I sleep and eat in my crate, and even spend time in there to keep me out of mischief when my foster family is out.

Speaking of eating, I have shown some slight resource guarding when it comes to food. We are working on this. I eat in my crate or heavily supervised with the other dogs, but never out of a bowl with them around. We get to hunt for the kibble, it's a pretty fun game actually. I'm always in first place.
I will take treats gently and wait my turn, and when you're eating, I have also learned to wait. I know that this way, I may sometimes get a tasty morsel.

I love friend dogs. Big or small, they're all fun, but someone frail may not be for me. I have a lot of energy. I do think I really need another friend whose energy can match my own.
I love pocket pets and chickens. Chasing them that is. So, if you have these, lets keep them somewhere safe while we work on this.
I've met cats. I'm 50/50 with wanting to play with them and catch them. I'd probably be fine with an older cat who stands their ground and knows how to get out when needed. In time though, I'm confident I could be a friend to all.

When it comes to kids, I love them, though I am quite boisterous so need more training with small ones. Kids from about 7 up who can say a firm no are fine.

I'm house trained too. I'll use a doggy door to get outside for my business.

All in all, I'm a really great guy, looking for a family I can settle down with, who will give me a loving home and the training I need to grow into a well-rounded dog.

Woof! Hi there, my name is Albert, and let me tell you, I'm one special pup with a story to share. You see, I'm basically an angel on four paws!

Life hasn’t blessed me with a rock star body. I am partially deaf and blind on the right side. That doesn’t stop me from scaring my self in the mirror, when I see my good looks!

I’m looking for a home where I can enjoy beach outings, splash pools and playing with bubbles and other dogs. I just want lots of love. My fostering family has started teaching me crate training and has started the process of house training. Could we keep working on these things together?

Hi, My name is Madgie! (Although my Scruffer Lovers name is Magic, no one ever calls me that.)

I desperately need your help! My foster family can’t have me for very much longer, even though they’d really love to, which means I’m in need of a new place to stay. My foster mum says the only thing she wishes for me most in the whole world is to hand me over to my forever family and not another foster carer. Can you help us make her wish come true?

I am a 6-month-old Shar-Pei X Staffy, which makes me the PERFECT snuggle buddy! I love people and will absolutely go bananas to meet someone new. I hope you like propeller butts, because my tail goes wild! Sometimes I get so excited that I start talking!

I am very highly food motivated which has made training me so far a breeze. Some tricks I have been able to pick up in less than 30 minutes! So far I know how to come, sit, drop, touch, paw, spin and go to my bed or blanket. As you can see, I’m a fast study and love learning.

Did I mention that I love to play? For as long as my body allows me. I’ll play with people, dogs or by myself, I don’t mind! I am quite happy keeping myself entertained but love to play tug or chasey just as much, until my little body forces me to stop for a nap. I am toilet trained, I just need to have frequent access to the outside, just like any other dog.

I sleep through the night in my crate although I would have no arguments to being allowed a spot on the bed. That’s where all the best cuddles happen. I get along with all people big and small and have met them all, so I am well suited to a family at any life stage.

Foster or foster to adopt.

Meet Hulk. But don’t be fooled by the name.. Hulk is a lover, not a fighter!

A kelpie X border collie who needs a home where he can learn the ropes. Since arriving into care I have been learning how to walk on lead and even put a collar on. And oh I have improved!

One thing that arriving has taught me is LOVE! I just think that everyone is going to give it to me. I just love people! While I’ve had a not so great start, I still love people so much and just want to cuddle!

Things I'm looking for in a foster or foster to adopt home - someone with patience; I’m still learning. I would prefer maybe an animal-free home, as I’m learning my confidence but if you do have a furry friend, a meet is a must. But most of all.. love! I love to cuddle and will love you unconditionally.

I’m good with other dogs, I’ve been introduced to dogs of all sizes and we have so much fun playing together. I dont mind cats either, but I am still a pup so when he runs I do like to chase him. Ive seen chickens and livestock but im much more interested in the company of other dogs & people.

Kids are great too, they give the best cuddles but I am still learning my manners and think older kids would be best. Toys, yes please my absolute favourite is a squeeky crab.

I’m doing well with my toilet training and sleep in my crate all night. Treats I love treats and I reckon we could have lots of fun doing some training together.

I have been learning lots at the pound; the carer said I’ve been doing great! I’m good with other dogs but can be a little bossy, but I’m still learning. I can be a little nervous at times but once I know you, I’m super loveable! Being a big breed, older kids might be best and further training would be beneficial.

I’m a sweet and shy little girl, who can be a bit wary to begin with but once I’m familiar, I’ll come for cuddles and hugs. I’m good with older dogs but sometimes it gets a big rough which I don’t like so I’ll shy away. I’m just a young pup so with experience, I’ll become more confident. Kids older than 12 would be best.

Toys, toys, toys, I do love my toys, squeaky ones, squishy ones, fluffy ones and bouncy ones I really want them all.

Hi all! I’m Frank, also known as Frankie. I am a staffy cross who is about 12 months old. I am a beautiful loving boy and ready to find my forever home!

I am socialised and very friendly with other dogs. I am not so sure about cats, and Im likely to chase them, so probably a home without cats or pocket pets would be best.

I am pretty cleaver, but I would benefit with someone to continue to teach me. I can walk off the lead on ovals and at the beach but my recall needs some work, as I get quite excited to meet new doggo friend.

I am currently being crate trained but that still a work in progress. I am good with kids, but most probably suited to a home with kids who are a bit older. I get very excited and I don’t realise how big and strong I am!

I would love a home with someone who is home a lot as I do suffer from some separation anxiety, or another dog friend to keep me occupied.

G’day. I’m Tank. I’m an almost 3 year old boy!

I’m like you’d expect a dog called Tank to be. I’m strong and I like to be in charge. I live fast, play fast, eat fast. Yeah, I’m trying to slow down the eating and drinking because, turns out, makes me sick. Who knew!

I am doing some training which I am getting good at too. We are learning sit, and wait, and all that kinda thing. It’s actually more fun than you’d think!

I like going out for walks on my leads and for rides in the car. At home we play chasey or play with chew toys and tug toys.

At the end of a busy day, we curl up to sleep. But you know what? If there’s room in your life for a good boys, I am here and waiting for you!

This is from the ranger, and this is what have they said about me!! Molly is full of energy and has a big Staffy head but is all Kelpie in the body and personality. She’s a quick learner with training, but easily distracted so short and sweet training sessions have been best in her time at the pound so far (followed by all the pats, or a good game of tug). If you’re looking for a dog who would excel in an agility class, then I’m the girl for you! She’s really trainable but hasn’t had any training so far so she does need some work and for this reason would be best in a home with no children and an experienced owner. She can walk side by side with other dogs but just needs some manners and may take a little time to get there. If you think Molly might be the girl for you then contact us and find out!!!
