Some dogs: 🐶🤯

Good morning - how much does your dog weigh?

I feel like that meme is more of a winter problem. But still applicable if you've got a dog sitting on the sheet and you want to strip the bed.

🧐Event-related potentials indicate differential neural reactivity to species and valence information in vocal stimuli in sleeping dogs.
🐶Dogs know who is talking, and how they are feeling - even when they sleep 😴

Dogs live in a complex social environment where they regularly interact with conspecific and heterospecific partners. Awake dogs are able to process a variety of information based on vocalisations emitted by dogs and humans. Whether dogs are also able to process such information while asleep, is unk...

Good morning. Happy wayback Wednesday.
Wayback when, people would put their hands in their dog's food bowls - presumably to show them who is boss. Dominance/Alpha theory has been debunked for decades. Unfortunately, this unnecessary ritual is continued throughout some sheltered pockets of the world, by trainers stuck in the past, or by people who have been handed down uncommon sense.
Fortunately, 🎨Trick Woofs is here to highlight the laughability of the practice.

Most people know they should walk their dog. But how much is enough or too much? This article has some factors to take into consideration.

Unfortunately I am called in for training by people who have a dog who is refusing to walk.

How often you should walk your dog is determined by the dog's age, health, diet, and condition. Younger and older dogs need less exercise.

Good morning - lets make today the day you stop patting dogs on the head.
How to pat a dog
1. Ask the owner
2. Ask the dog - allow them to come to you, and have time to sniff. Do they have loose wriggly body language? Are they soliciting attention?
3. Pat - from the side. Touch the shoulder rather than go in over the dog's head. Pat from collar to tail. Just a few seconds.
4. Stop and watch - Stop patting and watch the dog. If they walk away respect their choice they've had enough. If they've still hanging out with loose wriggly body language and soliciting attention, that might be a sign to continue to pat.

Just because YOUR DOG likes being touched in a certain way - doesn't mean all other dogs will like that too.

Good morning. I hope this person isn't being forced to go to Christmas gatherings tomorrow and get hugged by people he doesn't want touching him. Hopefully he's got a plan to give himself some space and chill out if it's too stressful for him to cope with.

Good morning. A gentle reminder to look on the bright side of life. What does your dog do well? Try focus on what your dog is good at, instead of dwelling on what's 'bad' about them all the time. Even if that special thing you like about them, or they're good at, is a bit goofy.
Playing to your dog's strengths might also be a key to modifying other behaviours too. We look at all sides of your dog's behaviour during our analysis before formulating an individual management and training plan during your initial behaviour consultation.

🧐Evaluating the Impact of Facial Phenotypes on Communication between Humans and Canines. Or an investigation into whether markings on dogs’ faces influence how expressive they are perceived to be by humans.

As dogs become more and more integrated into human society, it’s important that we understand how they communicate with us and how we can better communicate with them.

Guess who teaches their students about how dogs communicate 🙋‍♀️

Facial phenotypes are significant in communication with conspecifics among social primates. Less is understood about the impact of such markers in heterospecific encounters. Through behavioral and physical phenotype analyses of domesticated dogs living in human households, this study aims to evaluat...

Good morning. It's true - people expect so much of animals, and don't even hold themselves or their kids up to those standards. Did you know that a lot of 'naughty' puppy behaviour is actually normal puppy behaviour? And that by meeting your puppy's needs, you'll go a long way to reducing problematic behaviour?
It's actually cheaper and easier to prevent problems, than to try 'fix' them later.
You can learn all about it in our puppy school.

Our Story

Dog training is an unregulated industry, which means anyone can claim to be a dog trainer. Don't be fooled into hiring a person whose only qualifications are "I love dogs" and "I've been training dogs for years" Anyone can call themselves a “behaviourist,” “dog psychologist” or “dog whisperer” ask for their qualifications, where did they study, what professional organisations do they belong to? I hold a nationally recognised qualification and I'm committed to results based, science based force-free training that's fun, effective and safe. I use methods approved by the RSPCA and Australian Veterinary Association that get the results you want. Head to my webpage for more information. www.miss-behaviour.com.au
