How do I get the pan in or out? All Porta-Grazers have a key hole in the side wall of the pan-For the XL and Mini model you point that keyhole at the handle that has the arrow. For the corner just point it at the one handle..

What can’t they do? 🤣

Porta-Grazer™ can help prevent and treat laminitis by simulating grazing at a natural pace while not allowing spikes in the sugar level. When dealing with laminitis or founder many people try to restrict the horses volume of forage (in an effort to reduce the sugar / calories), which can lead to ulcers. Instead of reducing the amount of hay fed you need to regulate the sugar/calories IN the hay you are feeding.

What’s convenient for us isn’t always what’s best for our horses. Throwing a couple flakes over the fence twice a day as we head to work or get home is nice for us... BUT horses are designed to graze 24/7... With Porta-Grazer your horse can graze all day and night as nature intended while still being convenient for the people doing the feeding... AND Porta-Grazer eliminates hay waste!

Love seeing the hay dust circles on the ground 😂 where they’ve been tipping their Porta-Grazers up on end to shuffle the hay about! No hay lost, minimum mess!

Wont my horse get fat if I free feed?
Not if you feed a low calorie type forage. When free feeding you do not regulate the volume... Horses are designed to have forage 24/7 to buffer the stomach acid that runs 24/7. You regulate the calories IN the hay that you feed. Regulating the calories is how you control weight. Even minis can free feed this way. Each horse has different calorie needs. Meet those needs by the type of hay you feed. A low calorie grass hay is better for the horses digestive system than to feed 2 or 3 meals of high calorie hay where the horse goes long stretches with nothing in in its gut.

Will my horse eat "slower" if I use a smaller hole pan?

The Porta-Grazer is not designed to force your horse to "slow down" or make a small amount of hay last all day. The Porta-Grazer is designed to allow your horse to graze naturally.. There is nothing natural about forcing your horse to try and get its forage from tiny holes.

The pan is designed to lift and hold the hay so the horse can size and tear off bites same as if grazing on pasture. Using the proper hole count is very important.

By trying to use a pan with smaller holes than is called for will force the horse to eat down thru the holes. This will cause damage to the pan over time. Not to mention cause frustration and anxiety for your horse.

When a horse stands for long periods of time with no forage the stomach acid builds up. Since the stomach acid runs 24/7 they need forage 24/7. Having no forage available when they need it can lead to gastric ulcers.

How do I secure the feeder in a stall or paddock

When securing in a stall place an eye bolt approx 4 inches above the height of the handle then secure it thru one handle..

When securing to a post go thru the handle then around the post approx 4 inches above the handle.

You want it to sit flat without being able to be tipped over.

Do not go around the barrel. Use the handle.

Make sure the barrel is not sitting on anything abrasive.. Being made from plastic any sand, pebbles, etc can wear down the plastic over time..
A mat placed under the feeder will help protect it. Though it will need to be swept underneath the feeder often to prevent sand, dirt etc being trapped under the feeder that could wear on the plastic.

The Porta-Grazer does NOT have to be tied after the introductory period. They are designed to be rolled around by the horse. The hay will stay in due to locking tab system. This is especially handy when you are feeding outside in snowy weather. The horse can tip it over to knock the snow out. They will stand it back up to graze

Minis gotta graze too :)

The corner grazer is the largest of the Porta-Grazer models. It is ROUND like all Porta-Grazers. What makes it a "corner" is if you choose to place it in the corner of a stall the extra plastic at the single handle sets flush with the wall. It holds 6 average size flakes and lasts most self regulated horses 24 hours. All models can be used in a corner, inside, outside, secured or left loose.

Impaction Colic
A horse’s food must be moist when leaving the stomach in order to flow smoothly and allow the nutrients to be absorbed by the digestive system. This moisture is obtained from the saliva created while chewing. Large unregulated bites with low moisture content will lead to intestinal impaction stopping the digestive process.
Porta-Grazer™: Each bite is sized and torn off according to his particular needs. The horse then chews thoroughly mixing saliva with each bite adding the needed moisture to his digestive system (up to 10 gallons of saliva per day). In a natural environment horses will water once or twice daily to replenish bodily fluids.

I have used Porta-Grazers™ in my stables for nearly 10 years. My horses are settled and relaxed in their confined environments and can graze ad lib with their heads down as nature intended. They don’t ingest dirt off the ground nor strain trying to reach up high to eat; with the added bonus of no hay wastage.
