Can dogs eat grapes? 🐶🍇

This is a friendly reminder that grapes, raisins, sultanas and currants can all cause vomiting, diarrhoea, excessive thirst and in some case kidney damage/failure. Whilst vets now know that tartaric acid is the likely culprit for these toxic effects the data still isn’t in on how much is toxic/fatal. Different species of grape, different soil locations all contribute to the level of tartaric acid in grapes.

Therefore the safest course of action in the case of grape ingestion is decontamination, i.e. making the dog vomit! 🤢
There are some ways to make the dog vomit in the home but the safest way is under medical supervision by a vet or vet nurse.

There is roughly a four hour window of opportunity to induce vomiting before the stomach empties into the small intestine. Therefore timely treatment is essential for successful decontamination. If longer than four hours have passed there are still things we can do to reduce the impact of the toxin including administering activated charcoal (to bind the toxic), blood testing (to assess kidney function) and in some cases hospitalisation and putting the patient on a drip.

Some dogs may have a small enough dose to be OK or may have had grapes in the past and seemed OK but the damage caused can accumulate so the advice will always be to induce vomiting if we can. Adelaide Home Vet can induce vomiting safely in the home and advise on further treatment if required. Any concerns that your pet may have ingested a toxin call 0414 000 838 to discuss. Unfortunately it’s time for me to write the dreaded - opening of the borders covid post

As we all know our borders are opening tomorrow and it’ll only be a matter of time before Covid is here once again

So to keep you and your families safe along with myself and my family I thought we could all go through a few points in order to keep any covid transmitted through us

Please understand that as a small business I rely on my wonderful clients, I will continue to work until I have no choice but to stop, but I need your support.

Upon arrival I will be wearing a mask when in contact with any client or their family members this also includes when returning your dog to you after their pamper session

My hands will be sanitised upon arrival of your home and upon leaving

I have hygiene guidelines, including but not limited to, disinfecting my eftpos terminal, the trailer and myself at every house.

We appreciate that most of you love to keep us and your pooch company whilst we are pampering them and assist with the set up and packing up of our trailers, however we would kindly ask for you to lovingly excuse yourself.
As much as I'll miss our chats if you can have power access and your pooch ready to go It would be much appreciated

OR BETTER YET, ALLOW ME TO GAIN ACCESS SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEE ME, I promise not to take it personally 😂.

It’s with a heavy heart I have decided to suspend all dog washing/grooming this week and will revaluate when more news come to light with our restrictions and exposure sites

With 2 out of my 4 areas now being exposure sites
1 being Golden Grove and 2nd one being Wynn Vale and exposure sites growing faster than we think I need to make sure not only am I keeping you all safe but myself and family also

All appointments this week will be rescheduled and have top priority of rebooking
