Shire Animal Rescue Helping the homeless & lost animals in the Sutherland Shire (Sydney) since 2014 Learn more about our work and how you can get involved.

Shire Animal Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of animals. The main objective is to the curb the population of stray cats by advocating and through desex programs. Cats that can be socialised are rehomed into loving homes through our adoption program. Orphaned, including Neonatal, kittens are handraised by our experienced carers before entering our adoption program. We

can’t succeed alone, and need the support of community members like you to really make a significant impact. Shire Animal Rescue

🔥🔥🔥PETS AND HEATWAVES

💢Pets can get dehydrated quickly, so give them plenty of fresh, clean water

💢Make sure your pets have a shady place to get out of the sun

💢Do not over-exercise, and keep them indoors when it’s extremely hot.

💢Know the symptoms of overheating in pets, which include excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness, stupor or even collapse. Symptoms can also include seizures, bloody diarrhea and vomit along with an elevated body temperature

💢Animals with flat faces, like Pugs and Persian cats, are more susceptible to heat stroke since they cannot pant as effectively and should be kept cool in air-conditioned rooms as much as possible.

💢Never leave your animals alone in a parked vehicle. Not only can it lead to fatal heat stroke

💢Do not leave pets unsupervised around a pool—not all dogs are good swimmers.

💢Rinse your dog off after swimming to remove chlorine or salt from his fur, and try to keep your dog from drinking pool water, which contains chlorine and other chemicals.

💢Trim longer hair on your dog, but never shave your dog: The layers of dogs’ coats protect them from overheating and sunburn.

💢Brushing cats more often than usual can prevent problems caused by excessive heat.

💢Be sure that any sunscreen or insect repellent product you use on your pets is labeled specifically for use on animals.

💢Don’t let your dog linger on hot asphalt. Being so close to the ground, your pooch’s body can heat up quickly, and sensitive paw pads can burn. Keep walks during these times to a minimum.

Such an awesome outcome !!! Well done Ravi !!!

MICKEY THE COCKATOO HAS BEEN SAFELY CAUGHT!

Ravi from Feathered Friends was able to safely capture him at 450pm! Amazing work mate 👏🏽👏🏽

What a relief and a huge thank you to not only all the other wildlife volunteers such as Sydney Wildlife (Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services) and Wild Conservation (and any others that were there when I wasn’t) but also to the Coles Staff and the Macarthur Square staff, you have done a great job in a stressful situation.

The power of social media at work again.

Myself or Council had no involvement in this, I’m just purely here to inform the community of what’s been happening.

I happened to be here with Ravi at the exact moment!

Well done to all 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
