Hi everyone,

DAS POSTER: Sorry, but there is an air of despondency at the moment.

It’s because of the many dogs (and cats) currently doing very long periods of time in Pounds, Animal Shelters and foster groups. However, hopefully the assortment of faces in the attached DAS poster will tug at heartstrings enough for various people to want to give a particular “face” a home for Xmas. BUT not just this Xmas – every Xmas to follow..... There are currently 37 dogs at DAS looking for new homes (down slightly from a high of 40+ a couple of days ago....)

OR if you are in the position to considering fostering a dog, then ACT Rescue and Foster would absolutely love to hear from you. Contact details are: [email protected] Useful reading: fosterdogs.org/foster/information-about-fostering-2/

QPRC AMF: There is currently a range of animals in the Facility: 3 gorgeous cats; 3 Wolfie pups; 2 Huskies (Rambo & Xalia); a Bull Terrier x (Boof);a German Shepherd x (Buddy); an Amstaff x (Ginger); 6 Guinea Pigs; 2 Rabbits and a Rooster! More info: www.qprc.nsw.gov.au/Services/Animals/Find-Animals-For-Sale-Adoption-and-Lost-Pets

YASS VALLEY ANIMAL SHELTER: Thea – a Maremma Cattle Dog x -- is currently at the Shelter and looking for a new place to call home. Her poster is attached but feel free to contact the lovely staff for more info. Ph 6226 1477. Hi everyone,

ACT RESCUE & FOSTER (ARF) ADOPTION DAY:
I don’t ever remember ARF having a specific Adoption Day BUT one is happening this Saturday 18 Nov from 1-4pm. It will be the chance to meet all ARF’s long term foster dogs (and maybe a few others!) -- in the one place at the one time!!

A big afternoon is planned – and it’s not just meets and greets. As well as checking out some gorgeous dogs and chatting to their dedicated Foster Carers, this is a fantastic opportunity for people to see “ARF Park” located in Holder, plus ARF will also have trainers on site talking about common dog issues and equipment. In addition there will be demonstrations of different dog activities.

And of course, if anyone is on the fence about fostering, this is the perfect opportunity to learn firsthand of the amazing resources available to anyone who joins the ranks of fostering with ACT Rescue & Foster.
ARF's mission is to rescue and rehome as many dogs in need as possible. To do this they require a broad and plentiful range of temporary homes for dogs (aka Foster Carers). ARF especially needs carers who can take in bigger dogs. Being a Foster Carer is an incredibly rewarding experience and comes with a lifetime of wonderful experiences and memories (my firsthand knowledge!).

DAS Poster: There are 24 Pooches currently advertised as looking for new homes. Rocky is now the longest serving inmate! Check him out in the attached poster. The one feature everyone will recognise from both Posters is the predominance of big adult dogs. It’s a sad fact of the times.

QPRC AMF: The Facility currently has 11 dogs, 3 cats and a rooster looking for a change of scenery. Three of the dogs (S298 and S299) have been in the Pound since 30 May. The girls were only about 3-4 months old when they ended up at the AMF – they were very frightened. Aries (S288) has done a long stint too – he’s been in the Pound since 16 May and is now about a year old. Ages ago the Staff told me he was a lovely dog and they couldn’t work out why he hadn’t been adopted!

Yass Valley Animal Shelter: Snow and Panda. These 2 need your help. They were surrendered to the Yass Shelter in sad circumstances some weeks ago. They were much loved pets. Please advertise the attached poster as widely as possible. If you are interested in more info for yourself, you can contact the Shelter for a chat 6226 1477. Or have a squiz at the Yass Shelter’s FB page. It also has some more info on the pair. The Yass FB page – what an amazing initiative by the Shelter staff! Have a read!

Qprc Amf Poster: I often feel disheartened by the fact that I seem to be postering the same faces over and over again. But things do change. Some faces disappear -- unfortunately new ones immediately take their place. As a result the total number of animals needing new homes stays high. It’s been overwhelmingly difficult lately for all rescuers, Shelters and Pounds to keep up with the ever increasing surrenders of family pets or the fact that impounded strays are not being claimed. Hopefully the tide will change soon.

In the meantime – please advertise, please share, please talk about the different animals! The more coverage these animals get the better are their chances of finding love again. I am putting out a special plea for Luna. Luna has been at the Facility since 22 March and has had no registered interest. She really needs to get out! If you are interested in at least having a meet please contact the staff at the Facility on 6285 6269 for a chat.

Krazy Kritter Rescue in Wagga: Krazy Kritter Rescue (previously known as Krazy Kat Rescue) has a stunning 5 month old mix breed pup (Ace) who needs to find a special home. Ace was rescued from the banks of the Murrumbidgee River in Wagga with his siblings when they were just babies. He survived Parvo and is now a fit healthy boy. Darling Ace needs a family willing to spend time to train and socialise him better in the big wide world. His 3 siblings have been adopted. Have a read of Ace’s poster and contact Karen if you think you can offer Ace the family he needs. He is very special to Karen!

In the KKR poster you will notice that KKR also has 3 lambs available for adoption. Karen gets requests to help many newborns. If you are in the market for a friendly lawnmower, please contact Karen! KKR is a very small rural rescue group. I know Karen is struggling to feed the many lambs that come through her doors. If you would like to help, these are the items she especially needs for her lamb formula. She goes through about 6 litres a day!

· Kwik Start powdered colostrum
· 3ltr full cream milk (fresh, powdered or long life)
· Buttermilk (fresh)
· Tinned evaporated milk
· Thickened cream (fresh)

Karen has mentioned that if anyone would like to do a click and collect or home delivery, purchase a Coles gift card, or make a monetary donation to KKR please contact her (details on the poster).

QPRC AMF Poster: There are still lots of kitties and pooches looking for homes at the Facility. Adoptions are slow..... In particular I want to draw attention to dear Rosie. Rosie has been at the Facility since February! We discovered last week that she has been slipping through the cracks in turns of being promoted over the rescue network. Rosie is an 8 year old Kelpie. Her temp notes and temp testing photos are included in this poster. Also sweet Staffy x boy S195 has been waiting ever so patiently for a new home since Feb as well.

QPRC AMF Poster: There are lots of new faces hanging out at the Facility. It sure is a busy time at all our local Pounds as staff cope with influxes of surrendered pets.

DAS: DAS is also inundated with dogs. Some of you may have heard Jackie from DAS talking on the radio recently. She mentioned that there were about 65 dogs in the Facility! Of these 65 dogs, currently about 30 are available for adoption. You can view these dogs at the following link: www.cityservices.act.gov.au/pets-and-wildlife/domestic-animals/dogs/adopt-a-dog/dogs-available-for-adoption Aero and Lilly have been at the Facility since late 2022 – they would especially love to catch the eye of that someone special who can offer them a loving forever home.

QPRC AMF Poster: There are quite a few new faces at the Facility. Lots of puppies have recently been surrendered but they go pretty quickly – sadly it’s the very deserving older pooches that always do a much longer stint in the Pound. Personally I don’t understand why. I fostered many young gorgeous boisterous Kelpie pups in my fostering days (which was a lot of fun plus hard work) – but I always had a really special bond with all my adult fosters. They knew they had been given a second chance..... Please advertise the attached poster as widely as possible. In particular it’s time we found Erik that special someone. Plus some of the cats have been there awhile too.

KRAZY KRITTER RESCUE (Wagga): Ace and Xena are 16 weeks old and are looking for their forever homes. These 2 bubs were found with 2 other siblings dumped with rubbish on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River in Wagga back in early January. It was pure chance that they were found by a couple who were out walking. The pups were rushed into care with Karen at KKR. They became affectionately known as the “River Pups”.

Hi everyone,

QPRC AMF POSTER: Adoptions have been slow and the animals keep arriving. Erik the s***k has been at the Facility for awhile now and is hoping his turn to “leave the building” is just a sleep or 2 away! Lots of cats, some kittens, a few more dogs, a lonely rooster and 2 Kinder goats round out the guest list at the Pound atm.

23/01/2023

Hi everyone,

QPRC AMF Poster: So Ace and S75 (who sadly doesn’t have a name) are still patiently and hopefully waiting for someone to decide they would love to welcome them into their family. They just want someone to love – and for that someone to love them. As do all the animals of course. It’s just that Ace and “S75” have been at the Pound for such a long time! Ace turned up on 10 Oct 2022 and S75 even earlier on 27 Sept 2022. I understand they are both nice dogs.

DAS Dogs: There are also a lot of dogs at DAS looking for new homes. I do a regular poster for the Regional Independent newspaper in which I advertise animals in various Pounds in our region. If you are interested in seeing the DAS dogs currently available for adoption please check out this link: www.regionalindependent.com.au/current-publication/ on Wednesday 25 Jan. [Or keep an eye on the DAS website for regular updates: www.cityservices.act.gov.au/pets-and-wildlife/domestic-animals/dogs/adopt-a-dog ]

Hi everyone,

Welcome to 2023 -- and the good news is that the lovely little kelpie x girl (S59) who had done a long stint at the QPRC Animal Management Facility has finally been welcomed into a loving new family. All reports are that she has settled in really well! So that leaves just Ace and S75 (who sadly doesn’t have a name).

Please advertise the attached poster widely as there are quite a few animals hoping for a change of scenery in the not too distant future. Dogs, cats, kittens, a bunny and those poor roosters are still there.

Hi Everyone

QPRC AMF Poster: Well I thought I had finished my “little newsletters” for the year, but unexpectedly today I got an email from the staff at the AMF. The email contained a jam-packed list of animals needing exposure. I knew my job wasn’t over after all – I couldn’t “sign off” until I had postered them.

There’s quite a list of new faces attached. But there is also some absolutely wonderful news. The staff are thrilled to advise that at long last, 3 of their very long termers – Balto, Jax and Sheva -- have left the building. They have been adopted. This is just about the best Xmas present we could all have hoped for.

There are still 3 long termers: S87 Ace; S59 Kelpie/Staffy pup; and S75 black Staffy waiting patiently. Hopefully their special people won’t take too much longer to find them!

Hi everyone,

QPRC AMF Poster: Gosh it’s tough being a big dog looking for a new home. I seem to be advertising the same beautiful animals time after time. And – here I go again. Please everyone – do what you can to help these very deserving pooches at the AMF find their forever matches.

NB: I have also included Betty from Yass Valley Animal Shelter at the end of the AMF poster. The Yass Ranger has asked for everyone’s help in spreading the word -- Betty is still looking for her forever home. Apparently a lovely gal!

Bagel & Alfie – 2 beagles looking for a new home together (bonded pair): Anyone looking to adopt for a bonded pair of Beagles? If so Bagel and Alfie are looking for a new family together. Both are approximately 4½ years old. More details in the attached poster.

QPRC AMF Poster: There are still lots of big dogs looking to catch the eye of that someone special. Arni – AKA S322 -- in particular is a long termer at the Facility and he wants everyone to know that he is learning lots of useful skills while biding his time there. With just a little bit more fine tuning of these newfound skills he is hoping to show them off to potential adopters in the very near future. Good luck Arni! But there are also lots of other big dogs hoping their happy ever after is not far away. There are also lots of kittens in this poster too – as well as a few oldies including a lovely 10 year old ginger lady called Alice.

21/08/2022

Hi everyone,

QPRC AMF Poster: Well there’s been a good news/bad news update from the Pound. Adoptions have been slow but they are at least happening. A number of cats, dogs and rabbits have moved into new homes. The bad news is that spare spaces fill up as quickly as they are vacated! As of this week the Staff has advised that they will no longer be accepting anymore pooch surrenders until they are able to successfully rehome the ones they already have in the Facility.

I want to point out 2 AMF long termers that would especially like to see a change of scenery! Young Zena (S290) -- the young Staffy-Sharpei x has been in the Pound since 2 June. Also S310 (the stunning young Kelpie x) needs out. He’s been in the Pound since 21 June. The Pound staff now feel that he is probably best suited to a rescue group option rather than adoption. He will require a dedicated and experienced person to break through the barriers he has established. So if anyone has any sway with a great rescue group anywhere that can squeeze him into their foster care program – please give him a plug. Sadly most rescue groups are absolutely chokkas.

28/07/2022

Hi everyone

QPRC AMF Poster: It’s such a sad time to be a big dog in a Pound. Pups and little dogs always score much better in the rehoming stakes but big dogs are not so fortunate.

In the attached poster you’ll see that temp testing notes of some of the dogs have been included. Hopefully these notes will help prospective adopters find their forever & ever companion. Some pooches are still to be formally assessed but feel free to contact the Pound if you want any information on a particular dog.

Looking through the various temp comments it’s sad to see how many dogs appear to have missed out on important socialisation as well as lessons in “good doggie etiquette” as youngsters. Dogs are no different from the human species – effort in the early years pays dividends in the latter years! It’s also interesting to read the temp comments from another perspective -- during their stint in the Pound I’ve noticed some dogs obviously act up, some dogs shut down, some dogs “cope/survive”, but I have yet to read of a dog that loves the institutionalised existence.....

Some good news from the Pound on the other hand is that kittens and adult cats have been rehoming quite well.

Hi everyone,

QPRC AMF Poster: Wow – there are still lots of very deserving animals at the AMF looking for a warm and loving place to call their permanent home.

I can’t believe the number of kittens that are still coming through the Facility. There has been no real end to last year’s “Kitten Season”.

In addition 13 yr old BCx Buster, stunning Bindi, and S280 and S243 (how sad they don’t even have names!) are amazing dogs that have been in the Facility for simply weeks. And the very handsome Bear (tri coloured ACD) has now been surrendered after doing a stint in the Pound just recently. There are also 2 other doggie additions (S290 & S293), plus the little Guinea Pig family is still there, and 2 Silky x Roosters have now joined the menagerie. It’s a very full house!

LITTLE OAK SANCTUARY [www.littleoaksanctuary.org]: For those of you who don’t know this amazing Sanctuary, it’s located between Bungendore and Braidwood and has been operating for almost 10 years. Kate and James take in orphaned, abandoned and surrendered farm animals in need of a safe haven. They currently have 366 animals in their care -- horses, pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, alpacas, chickens, turkeys, geese, and even the odd wombat (who thinks he is a farm animal).

The animals need LOS. LOS needs you. Please donate if you can: donorbox.org/action-for-animals (Or click on the donate link in poster) LOS receives no government funding, so Kate & James are very reliant on people’s generosity. Every dollar goes straight to the animals and is tax-deductible if over $2. I am continually inspired by Kate & James’ dedication and knowledge. Please share this email & LOS poster far and wide.

Hi everyone,

ANIMALS LOOKING FOR HOMES AT THE QPRC AMF: Holey moley there are SO many animals looking for homes at the Animal Management Facility at the moment. Lots of dogs, cats, kittens, bunnies and now guinea pigs as well. There are 23 all up. The staff at the Animal Management Facility would really really appreciate everyone on my Poster List going over and beyond in advertising the attached poster! HI everyone,

QPRC AMF Poster: Gee, there are still lots of “Hopefuls” biding their time at the Animal Management Facility waiting for their perfect matches to find them. Duke and Milo in particular have been there for yonks. There are several more gorgeous looking dogs and a couple more very pretty cats since last week’s poster. The bunnies are still there but the lamb has found new lodgings. All up there are currently 15 animals needing to find homes.

Pleas for Bush Dogs & Pups: There’s a saying Animal Rescue is like emptying the ocean with a teaspoon! Yep, it feels like that. But I personally still want to try. My latest project is to help this group in Far North Qld – around Cairns – Bush Dogs & Pups.

I decided to do a poster (see attached) so people can advertise the Bush Dogs plea, because of course there is no point asking for people’s assistance or monetary donations without some pictures! Details on how to donate are in the poster. People can also follow Bush Dogs on FB. Many of the photos I have seen are so common to the Bali dogs that I help.... and this is Australia!

Iron Dog Rescue: I hope you are all following the amazing work that Sue is doing. A woman with incredible passion and compassion.

Sue always really appreciates the many donations that make their way to Bethungra from Canberra. But bear in mind Liking & Sharing the IDR FB page to bring the plight of dogs in care is also a significant help.

Increasing the exposure of the dogs to an ever expanding audience is an important step in hopefully finding them their perfect matches more quickly. In addition, you have to admit the IDR FB page sure is an interesting rescue page to follow!

For info: Sue also lists the IDR dogs currently ready for adoption on SAVOUR LIFE: www.savour-life.com.au/adopt-a-dog/rescue-groups/3984/Iron-Dog-Rescue & PET RESCUE www.petrescue.com.au/groups/11740/IRON-DOG-RESCUE.
