Animals are for life.. not just for Christmas..
Imagine Xmas morning. You get a puppy! Shes so cute. You take 100 pictures. Share all over Instagram and Facebook. You can't love this puppy enough. You take her everywhere. To the store, to friends houses. She rides shotgun anywhere you decide you're going. Everyone stops to pet her and cuddle. She is perfect in every way. Later on she starts to grow up. Still cute and starts to get an entity of her own. She has good days and bad days. You'll come home and she will have ripped up your favorite pillow or peed on your carpet....but shes till soooooo cute, it's just a mistake, she didnt mean to. You cuddle her and fall asleep just like you've done 100 times before. Then... she gets a lttle older. A little "less cute", shes trained now. More on auto pilot if anything else. When mistakes happen they are harder to oversee. I mean you're an adult now, there is no reason for this. You scold her and run out the door. Your friends and family are waiting, of course! After hours alone in the house you come back, shes peed on the floor. This time it isnt laughs and cuddles that follow. Its yelling and and smack on the butt, shes old enough after all. She knows better. Then its lights out and off to sleep. You have a busy day tomorrow and shes an afterthought.
8 years later now, shes grey in the face. Shes an afterthought in your home. A piece of furniture. You knows shes there, as long as her food and water is full, you've done your job right?? Every few weeks the vet introduces another medication to her regimen. This is becoming a chore! More and more money is spent keeping her healthy. Yet every day she greets you with a wagging tail! Even when shes obviously tired and in pain, shes there. You brush her off, after 10 plus years the novelty had expired right?? At night she cuddles alone, wondering what she did wrong. She isnt the puppy with fuzzy fur anymore. She cant cant see as much as she used to, she has aches and pains. Shes confused and feels alone now. She knows you're there but it isnt the same. Her love for YOU has never changed. In 10, 12, 15 years. Its always been the most love she has always had to give. The question is have we done the same? Have we given all of our heart to her? It's easy to get wrapped up in the day to day, to forget the small things that mean the most. The fact is shes loves you from day 1. The same love will continue until her last breath. Please! Especially this holiday season. Let's not forget the ones who have been there. The ones who have seen us at our worst and continued to love us. Maybe their fur isnt as smooth. Maybe they arent the pup we took home that night, but their heart has NEVER stopped loving us. Until they day they leave us they'll never stop loving you!!! Here is to all the ones who are overlooked. The ones that have become an accessory in their own home. You are loved and know that you have served a purpose. Sleep well old friends!!!! Please please share this post. I know so many of us understand! Animals are for life not just for Christmas..

Sad sad news today. Our StreetPets little buddy Flash was unfortunately hit by a car last night and has crossed the rainbow bridge. Absolutely heartbroken, but no where near as much as his daddy is. I will be organizing the cremation for our fur friends today, a sad part of what we do. RIP dear Flash you were such a beautiful good boy.. 💔 💔 🐾🐾💔💔🐾🐾

The last couple of years have been tough on all of us, but I'm hoping in this wonderful community there may be some people with contacts to donate some awesome prizes for this raffle!🤞. Thursday night in the park, catching up with old fur friends and making new human ones! Quite a few bags of dog food went out tonight and after a quick calculation it turns out since we started last year we have given out over 300kg of free dog food to our street friends for their fur babies.. 300KG!!!! Puppies for days today. So many new fur friends met today and only managed to get the one photo 🤦♀️ was too busy having my shoes chewed (yes I was wearing them), by this little lady Missy. Well I guess it’s lockdown time again! Which means services are a no show! 😡 It would be great if notification was given to council or StreetMed/StreetPets about not showing up for a food service when so many people rely on a hot meal!!! Thank you to our partners in crime The Jeremiah Project for paying for the hot pizzas tonight as we are strapped for $$$ as a lot of charities are during these tough times. You guys rock! Did someone say lockdown? Not for the StreetMed and StreetPets team! We haven’t stopped during Covid hit and we won’t now.. It was a busy night in Parramatta, but many hands (socially distanced of course) make light work.. Hi Everyone, during these uncertain times please be assured that the StreetMed and StreetPets team are still out and about. We have reintroduced compulsory mask wearing and sanitizer for all our patrons and volunteers along with social distancing. When my son was young he used to watch a cartoon ( I can’t remember what it’s name was now)but it was about these small animals that used to escape their enclosures and go and help other animals that were in trouble, their catch cry was:
“What’s gonna work? Teamwork!
And I can honestly say that is exactly what Monday night shifts have become. With StreetMed, StreetPets, Silent Few, Street Heart (Rik Johnson Oam), and Knights M.C Australia Inc.
We have become such a well oiled team to the absolute benefit of our patrons.
I’m so proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with these other organizations to make a difference to those who need it most. Thank you guys for helping make a difference and helping every single week rain, hail or shine (and the odd storm!) and for always having my back. StreetMed couldn’t do it without you!!!
