Whilst the shed has power during today's blackout, it doesn't extend to my house so I've given house piggies Pom Pom, Gretchen and Buttons a day on the grass π
Desexed male Buttons (tri-colour abby) is almost eight and a half and a bit arthritic, in case anyone's wondering why he's hopping π
I've put their tunnels back down and they're happy again π
Thank goodness Celeste and Mark gave us this generator when we had that four day power outage over Christmas 2023! That was an unexpected blackout whereas I had advance warning about today's which started at 8.30am and is estimated to go until 3pm.
In preparation my landlord contacted Josh, the electrician who helped us last time. He came on Tuesday and put a switch on the generator which means the shed will have full power during any blackouts. As an added bonus I can run an extension cord from the shed to the water pump so we won't be without water all day. I'm only on tank water so normally no power means no water.
Thankyou Josh, my landlord Craig, generous piggy people Celeste and Mark, and our other Mark (vollie) who came on Tuesday night and put oil and fuel in the tanks so the generator was ready to roll π
Also many thanks to the energex worker who helped me get the generator started as I couldn't pull the cord hard enough to get it going π₯΄
#ittakesavillage #thankyou
UPDATE: We have someone coming today!! Thanks Daniel π
HELP!!! Our grass is growing faster than the guinea pigs can eat it so we're reaching out in the hope of finding someone willing to volunteer their time to mow it! Our vollie Mark usually does it but he helps us with so many things in what little time he has to spare so I'm putting the feelers out to see if someone else would like the honour π
It's a 900 square block so quite a large area. We can provide a lawn mower but we don't have a whipper snipper. If you're keen please pm Alex on this page πΉ
β€οΈπ RIP FRANKIE π’πππΎ
Dear little Frankie left us this morning π’ It wasn't unexpected as she was eight years of age and had been losing weight over the past year or so but had remained bright and active, and loved her food β€οΈ
Frankie was very special to me as she had been with me since May 2021 when she and her sister Wombat were returned after being adopted in 2017. Wombat passed away in 2022 and since then Frankie has lived with Buttons, who at eight years four months of age is our oldest desexed male.
I moved Buttons and Frankie into my house recently as I could see Frankie's back legs were starting to stiffen up and I wanted to keep a close eye on her. To make her more comfortable I put her on Oxbow Joint Support, CBD oil and calcium syrup and whilst this initially helped with her mobility, in the last few days she lost all use of her back legs but still had a good appetite. Late last night I noticed she was no longer eating, and this morning she quietly passed away π
I loved her very much and so did Buttons. He was by her side when I checked on them last night, and was still there this morning π He'll remain in my house and I'll either put him with Gretchen and Pom Pom or give him a new golden oldie girlfriend π§‘
The photo at the end of the reel is of Wombat and Frankie in 2017, before they were adopted β€οΈ
Bunny, a nine month old texel male, was surrendered today. As I'm short on cage space I wanted to try him with two three month old males who I took in recently. I couldn't do it outside due to the (neverending π) rain so I set up a playpen inside the shed and put in heaps of hay. There's a fair bit of wheeking and squeaking but so far no fighting ππ€
Yay!!! Gretchen now has a sponsor!! Thankyou Donna Douglas for becoming this gorgeous girls sponsor!! πβ€οΈπ
Warrior princess Gretchen, who now lives inside my house permanently, needed a friend and who better to choose than our little lethal girl Pom Pom π Look how excited she is at her new surroundings π
Pom Pom is one of our sponsored piggies with her sponsors being Kathryn and Emilia Klein β€οΈ
Gretchen is now looking for a sponsor. If you'd like to become her sponsor please visit www.gcgpr.com.au/sponsor-a-piggy.html to find out how π
HAPPY NEW YEAR from all of us at Gold Coast Guinea Pig Rescue! I had a hard time choosing which of our 188 piggies to feature in the video but settled on Frankie who at eight years of age is our oldest female, Gretchen who you've seen quite a lot of recently, Pom Pom our little lethal girl and Buttons who is eight years three months of age and our oldest desexed male π₯°
As we begin a new year I'd like to thank everyone who supported us in 2024, whether it be through donating when we called out for help, coming to our events and garage sales, being a piggy sponsor, buying tickets in our weekly raffle, or donating veggies, newspapers and other items. Also to those who answered my call for foster carers throughout the year π And to our wonderful volunteers who regularly donate their time to help at our our events, clean cages, feed piggies, mow the grass and a myriad other things. You're all my heroes π€©
Also a HUGE THANKYOU to everyone at Coomera Springs Vet Surgery for being so supportive and caring towards myself and to all the piggies who grace their clinic πβ€οΈ
We have a big year of events planned where we look forward to seeing many of you, and your piggies π Thankyou to EVERYONE!! You are amazing!! π€

Meet one of our cute trios - Kimmy, Harry and Daisy π
Kimmy came to us with Gretchen and another female in March 2023. Harry was surrendered in April 2023 with two other males. He was desexed in September 2023. Daisy was surrendered just two weeks ago π
Little Percy loves his head scratches π This little darling came as a baby in our April intake of sixty-four guinea pigs. Despite receiving some criticism for paying for them, I'll never regret doing so and I'm sure Percy is in agreement β€οΈ
Gretchen has always got her hay in a loose pile and she doesn't know what to make of the Oxbow Harvest Stack π
Our dear little Gretchen continues to recover well π I think she's a bit over being video'd though π
