HAPPY NEW YEAR from all of us at Gold Coast Guinea Pig Rescue! I had a hard time choosing which of our 188 piggies to feature in the video but settled on Frankie who at eight years of age is our oldest female, Gretchen who you've seen quite a lot of recently, Pom Pom our little lethal girl and Buttons who is eight years three months of age and our oldest desexed male ๐ฅฐ
As we begin a new year I'd like to thank everyone who supported us in 2024, whether it be through donating when we called out for help, coming to our events and garage sales, being a piggy sponsor, buying tickets in our weekly raffle, or donating veggies, newspapers and other items. Also to those who answered my call for foster carers throughout the year ๐ And to our wonderful volunteers who regularly donate their time to help at our our events, clean cages, feed piggies, mow the grass and a myriad other things. You're all my heroes ๐คฉ
Also a HUGE THANKYOU to everyone at Coomera Springs Vet Surgery for being so supportive and caring towards myself and to all the piggies who grace their clinic ๐โค๏ธ

Meet one of our cute trios - Kimmy, Harry and Daisy ๐
Kimmy came to us with Gretchen and another female in March 2023. Harry was surrendered in April 2023 with two other males. He was desexed in September 2023. Daisy was surrendered just two weeks ago ๐
Little Percy loves his head scratches ๐ This little darling came as a baby in our April intake of sixty-four guinea pigs. Despite receiving some criticism for paying for them, I'll never regret doing so and I'm sure Percy is in agreement โค๏ธ
Gretchen has always got her hay in a loose pile and she doesn't know what to make of the Oxbow Harvest Stack ๐
Our dear little Gretchen continues to recover well ๐ I think she's a bit over being video'd though ๐
Pom Pom, our little lethal girl, is enjoying grass time today with her four cage mates (all related). She is at least partially deaf and blind which seems to make her fearless whereas the others run and hide at the slightest noise ๐
Gretchen had her sutures checked today and everything is healing nicely ๐ She's wondering what all the fuss is about and is thoroughly enjoying her new living arrangements in my loungeroom with the neverending supply of treats ๐โค๏ธ
Poor little Gretchen has undergone two major surgeries over the past two weeks, the first being the removal of a very unhealthy uterus, and her cystic ovaries. She came through that procedure well but her skin reacted to the stitches and both incisions opened up and became infected ๐ข She went back to the vets yesterday where she underwent ninety minutes of very delicate surgery in which the incisions were cleaned and restitched. It was a very precarious procedure and the utmost care had to be taken to prevent any damage to the abdomen wall which had been exposed.
This girl is such a little trouper and despite her ordeal she's still bright eyed and eating well ๐ I have her in my house where I can keep a close eye on her to make sure she keeps eating, peeing and pooping.
Many thanks to Dr Gatien at Coomera Springs Vet Surgery for performing yesterday's surgery and taking Gretchen home last night for post-op aftercare โค๏ธ

This year we combined the single male and single female categories but we had so many entries we've decided to go back to two categories next year!
Unfortunately I didn't notice that my camera was on photo mode instead of video (what can I say - it was a busy day ๐คช) so the first few contestants weren't recorded ๐ I'm hoping I can get some footage from one of our contestants so you can see the fabulous displays that precede these entries.
