So. As a matter of transparency I would like to share something that has been happening to me lately.
I had someone approach me last year regarding purchasing a puppy.
She had been saving but did not have enough money together to purchase.
She wanted the puppy for nursing home visits.
I felt sorry for her and offered her a puppy which was small compared to it's siblings at a reduced price.
It passed all it's vet checks, it was vaccinated and microchipped, wormed etc. She picked it up Christmas Day 2023 (inconvenient for me but she particulary wanted to pick it up on Xmas so I moved my day about to accomodate her.)
I asked her to take it to a vet ASAP given the holiday period and get it's next due vaccination. It was done on the 27th of December with no issues.
The following are photos which she sent in the next weeks.
Long story short the pup got a grass seed in each ear some three weeks after purchase.
Later it had some health issues (later deemed to be from a UTI (urinary tract infection) I believe to be caused by diahorea from changes in diet.
Said person frequently changed the puppies diet which she was advised not to do.
To cut a long story short the pup was handed in to a Collie rescue after she had owned it for around 10 months. It was posted the dog would not be a freebie.
The rescue organisation did not reach out to me.
The original owner never contacted me in regards to registration papers.
The original owner was not a member of Dogs SA.
Suddenly I find I have been reported to Dogs SA for selling a buyer an unhealthy puppy which was not true....and proven at a disciplinary hearing.
I was also reported for not registering the litter (all on limited register) This was my fault but only due to hardship. As you all know I have been through a huge property settlement and struggled financially with the costs of legal fees etc.
It was always my intention to catch up on things.
I have subsequently caught up on all my registrations.
I was fined and a suspension for 12 months (twice)and a fine of $1000 total, the registration rule, broken into two parts was (wholly set aside), however, I had an accidental mating of an under aged bitch (the first time in ten years of breeding this has ever happened and I believe there were outside infuences).
I fessed up and put the paperwork in, subsequently I have been charged another $1000 in fines and another year of suspension.
This makes a total of 3 years out and $2000 in fines plus fees. In addition to this they have put these puppies on limited register never to be upgraded to main, which is sad as some of them are clear across the board.
To all that have been happy with their puppies. Happy new year. Whatever happens they can't take away the fact that I have bred some great dogs over the years and have bred some dogs that are clear across the board for genetically inherited diseases.
I am appealling this but don't hold much hope and have been told the penalty could be worse under a new panel.
Also they are telling me there will be more charges/fines but so far I don't really know why.
I had hoped to get out to some shows in the New Year, now that my life has settled down but that won't be happening.
No I am not perfect. I try my best but it seems there are those who still want to try and dim the light of others.
I have worked 3 jobs to get the bank loan to keep my dogs and this place.
Anyway I wanted to be transparent and expel this pus before welcoming the new year. Onwards and upwards.
Share a photo of your Almarange collie in the comments to brighten my New Year. God Bless you all.
