We are experiencing a heatwave in Perth for the next few days. That means have a safe and cool place for your cat to spend the day and plenty of cool water available for them to drink. Try a cool mat for them to sleep on. Keep your house as cool as possible.

A quick note for dog owners as well. Walk your dog in the early morning or late evening not during the heat of the days. If you cannot walk bare footed on the cement I guarantee neither can they.

I really dislike the term crazy cat lady. It diminishes cat lovers by assigning a label that has a negative connotation, even if used humorously.

I am a big advocate for keeping cats' indoors,... but could someone tell me how many wildlife creatures are killed or left homeless due to people clearing land to build on. Without their trees and native bush these animal move closer to us.

It's not just cats destroying the wildlife. We as human are responsible for this and more.

There are responsible cat owners out there who are capable of owning more than two or three cats and giving them a good life.

Look, cats are ok with being inside or with an enclosure to sit outdoors safely. If you put in a routine for them and lots of stimulation it will help curb their prey drive.

Most cats that are allowed to roam end up dead, injured or horribly tortured by humans. I hear these stories all the time and it breaks my heart.

Remember that feral cats can be stray cats who have been dumped or lost. You wouldn't know the difference by looking at them. Strays have shown that they can revert back to being owned cats.

If possible adopt from a shelter, you will be saving a life and your new friend will be vaccinated, sterilised and assessed. Cat Haven do such a great work with rehoming cats.

There are so many voices against cats in Perth. If you love cats please give them a voice. They are beautiful, loving beings that deserve love and respect.

Do the right thing keep your cat indoors and on your property.
