With as few as 2,500 remaining in the wild and a population that has decreased by 50% over the last 20 years, we need to do everything we can to save this beautiful species.

Today is National Threatened Species Day
A day to reflect on the many species lost to extinction.
Thankfully many scientists, zoos and community members are doing everything they can to put a stop to extinction and protect our threatened species.

After a terrible week we have some exciting news..
Nhu, Tiane and little brother Rhu have welcomed this little one to their family.
White cheeked gibbons are a critically endangered species found in South East Asia, with less than 200 remaining in the wild.
We remain closed and will reopen Friday 6th 10am

🐒Happy International Primate Day🐒
There are over 300 primate species across the globe, two-thirds are considered endangered. Unfortunately, habitat destruction threatens all of the world’s primate species.
Tasmania Zoo currently host the largest collection of primates in Australia and are proud to support global conservation efforts.

Happy World Painted Dog Day 🐾
This Endangered species is also know as African Wild Dog, they are the largest canid in Africa.
Due to habitat loss and poaching there are now less than 7000 wild dogs left in the wild.
We have 8 beautiful painted dogs, visit them to learn more about this amazing species.

It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of two of our long term residents.
CEDA our Black Crested Macaque was born at Perth Zoo in 2005, she joined our Tas Zoo family in 2008. Ceda was the last of her species in Australasia.
LARA our Mandrill joined us almost 15 years ago, her colourful face and bold personality made her a favourite amongst visitors. Lara was 1 of only 4 Mandrills in Australia at the time of her passing.
At the age of 18 and 22 both were considered elderly for their species, resulting in age related illness.
Ceda & Lara will both be dearly missed ❤️❤️
