Last night was Week 2 of our Beginners K9 Nose Work class, and we saw some amazing progress!

Expanding the search area gave the dogs new challenges—some focused on building confidence, while others practiced a bit of self-control.

We also noticed some fascinating differences in body language when the dogs were working on lead versus off lead.

It’s always such a joy to watch them grow and adapt. Great job to all the teams! 🐾

These two new teams tackled their first trails with enthusiasm and curiosity, setting a fantastic foundation for their mantrailing journey.

Watching the bond between dog and handler grow as they solve the puzzle of the trail together is always inspiring.

We can’t wait to see what these amazing duos will achieve! 💪🐕

Today’s K9 Nose Work class took place at the scenic Bradman Oval in Bowral, where we added a whole new layer of challenge for our dogs!

Novel environments like this bring plenty of new sights, sounds, and scents that can be distracting—which make them invaluable for training.

Each dog had to work through these fresh distractions, building their focus and resilience along the way.

Seeing them stay on task and track down their scents in an unfamiliar setting is just incredible.

Great job team Twiggy, Poppins, Minnie and Pixie!!

First week of in , and it’s all about asking those big questions: Who are you here? What can you do here?

Tonight, we had a few nervous and reactive dogs in class, and it was wonderful to see each of them settle in as we introduced the foundations of scent work.

This first week is all about creating a safe space for every dog to explore, build confidence, and discover their scenting skills at their own pace.

I can’t wait to see these dogs grow in confidence and capability as we continue!

Well done to all our students (and handlers!) for a great start!

🌟 The Pancake Theory 🌟

Have you ever noticed when you’re making pancakes, the first one is always a bit… off?
The batter’s too thick, the pan’s not quite hot enough, the butter burns—it’s usually not pretty.

But by the time you’re on pancake #5, everything’s working smoothly. The pancakes are fluffy, golden, and delicious.

Nose Work and Mantrailing with our dogs are a lot like that! The first time we tackle something new as a team, it’s bound to be a little clumsy and awkward—and that’s ok.
It’s a normal part of the process and is often in fact, necessary.

So, welcome it!

It’s important that we talk about and normalize those “first pancake” moments.
They’re part of learning and growing together, building that rhythm and trust that make everything come together in the end.

Here’s to those first pancake moments—they’re all part of the journey! 🥞🐾
