‼️Strays‼️

Our team ensures every measure is taken to achieve and help reunite animals with their owners. However, this can not be successful unless YOU make sure your pet's microchips information is up-to-date. When adopting a new pet comes the process of updating their details under their microchip number. If you don't have their number on file, our nurses can also do a free microchip scan and explain the process on how to change the details.

It's so important your pets information is up to date, for us to be able to reunite your fur babies.

Spring time and big winds can often mean we see baby birds on the ground. Here's what to do if you find one.

Nestlings won't survive long outside the protection of the nest, and where possible nestlings should be re-nested and left in the wild.

If you can't see a nest in the surrounding trees, or it's fallen down or been damaged, then you can make a replacement nest to put the nestling back into. This could be as simple as a basket or plant pot with some nesting material inside, securely attached to the nearest tree.

Fledglings nearly have all their feathers and leave the nest just before they can fly, so it's normal to see them on the ground. Keep your pets away from them, leave the fledgling alone and monitor it, as the parents are usually nearby and feeding the bird.

Even if you have already confined a healthy fledgling, you may still be able to return them to their parents. If they're in immediate danger, place them in a sheltered spot a short distance away.

You should only take baby birds into captivity as a last resort if:

They're sick or injured
You know for sure that the parents are dead
You've continuously monitored from a distance for more than two hours and the parents haven't returned.

Sometimes when a pet is in pain, you may see subtle changes in their behaviour.

Any changes in behaviour can be a sign of pain or other health issues and we recommend taking your furry family to see one of our veterinary team.

Tis the season for fireworks!

Walk your dog during daylight hours to avoid times when fireworks are likely to be set off.
Move your dog to the safe haven each evening before the fireworks begin. Provide toys and other things that they enjoy in the safe haven.
Make sure there are things for you to do too, so your dog isn't left alone.
Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound of fireworks. Blackout your doggy safe haven, so they can't see any flashes outside.
Put on some music or TV to mask the firework sounds.
Ignore the firework noises yourself. Play with a toy to see if your dog wants to join in, but don't force them to play.
You could also talk to your vet about pheromone diffusers. These disperse calming chemicals into the room and may be a good option for your dog. In some cases, your vet may even prescribe medication.

☀️Warmer months mean its time to check for parasites!

Ticks and fleas are a common problem within Australia, especially among dogs, with the season starting around September. This means that the beginning of spring is the ideal time to remind yourself to protect your pets from these nasty little critters that can become deadly.

If you notice a tick on a pet that is not displaying signs of tick paralysis, remove the tick straight away.To do this, grasp the tick firmly where it attaches to your pet’s skin and give a quick sideways pull. If you are not confident removing the tick please call us immediately to make an appointment to have it removed. Once the tick is removed your pet should be kept cool and quiet whilst being closely monitored for 24 hours.

If your pet starts to display any signs of tick paralysis, such as vomiting, weakness, staggering, breathing difficulty, or altered bark, seek immediate veterinary attention as this is a genuine veterinary emergency. ❌

If your pet is showing any of the above signs, do not offer food or water as these may be accidentally inhaled in tick-affected dogs.

We are more than happy to show you how to do a thorough tick search, tick removal and preventative products best suited for your pet.

☎️Please call us to discuss.

Coming to the vet with your cat? To ease distress from the carrier and car trip here are a few tips:

😸Ensure your carrier is sturdy. Cats feel more secure in sturdy carriers.
😸Do not feed your cat before the vet visit. This lessens the chances of vomiting in the car and they may be more interested in treats offered by the vet or nurse.
😸Keep the carrier in the house where the cat can have constant access to it. Allow your cat to sleep in the carrier, put comfortable bedding in and offer food or treats in the carrier. The carrier will no longer induce fear and the cat will feel more content in a known enclosure.
😸Spray your carrier and car with Feliway – a synthetic pheromone that reduces anxiety in cats.
😸Cover the carrier with a towel or blanket to allow your cat to hide.
