Allani & Nic
Our Sport Horse Mentorship Rider Allani has had a couple of sessions here, and to say I am proud of her would be an understatement.
I wanted to chose riders who I knew were willing to learn and committed to bettering their horses - and this young rider is already proving exactly why she deserves it.
We have been working on teaching her horse steadiness through his gaits, self balance, laterals and lunging exercises. I cannot wait for the next few months! 🥳
The ground and ridden sessions are aimed at assessing and supporting your horses body through exercise. There’s nothing easy about it (neither is getting our butts to the gym! ) but its damn rewarding!
✅ Breaking the cycle of your horses dysfunction ✅
What does my recent joint surgery have to do with your own horses movement dysfunction?
Have a listen to my daily ramble and maybe it’ll make it a little easier to understand 🤷🏼♀️
🔥 2 years in the making 🔥We decided years ago that I would give up the ambulatory equine vet life. I was exhausted, burnt out, suffering from chronic pain and just had a baby. I 💟 my job, but I needed to make it work for me so I stayed doing it. So we started our small empire! 🔥I love looking back at how far we’ve come. We build when we can afford it, and we (well mainly Damien Maiolo 😅) does as much work as possible.I am so proud to look at our progress! And there’s still so much more to come! 🔥#builditandtheywillcome #workfromhome #equinevet #horsevet #veterinary #buildityourself #equestrainlife
These are two horses I want to share their journey with you.
🟤 The Bay.
When I first saw him 2-3 years ago he had been put on Cushings medication without testing him. He presented will all the signs of pergolide toxicity. He had been started on the medication for his laminitis.
Over the last 2-3 years we have battled his laminitis with traditional and non-traditional ways. He has had serial blood tests, hoof x-rays, glue-shoes, medications - you name it he’s had it.
Euthanasia stared us in the face multiple times especially when trying to manage his laminitis the traditional way.
With a lot of faith if our process, and treating him as the individual he is, this is him today.
He gets to enjoy some time out with his friends. He’s not on any medications. And he is barefoot.
🟠 The Palomino.
Believe it or not, 12 months ago he fractured his neck.
He most definitely had age on his side, but his owner also had complete faith in the time and process it took.
This is him today. And yes, he is back in work also.
I just wanted to share these guys with you all. These days I think we sometimes get bogged down in the details and forget to individually tailor treatments.
Big blanket statements, assumptions and recommendations are made without taking the time to get to know what works for that horse and their individual situation.
And that’s what it takes, time ⏰
And sometimes you need to throw your conventional academic methods out the window. 💪
I finally took the time away to do an adventure we have been wanting to do for years - a 7 day cattle drive 🤩
☀️ 7 days // 216 cows 🐮// 90kms 🐴
What an amazing experience thanks to Forge's Farm - we could not of had better weather, better hosts or a better group of people 😍
6-8 hours a day in the saddle, and our horses held up so well. Though I am sure they will now appreciate their well deserved time off 😴
Now to return back to everyday life and catch up on everything waiting for me 🫣
This week I took some time away for an adventure we have been wanting to do for years - a 7 day cattle drive 🐮
☀️ 7 days // 216 cows 🐮// 90 kms 🐴
What a fantastic experience thanks to Forge's Farm - we could not of asked for better weather, better hosts or a better group of people 😍
Now to get back to work and catch up on everything waiting for me 🫣
Thank you 🙏 for letting me go adventuring for the week. We took the opportunity to go on a cattle drive for the week 🤩
☀️ 7 days // 216 cows 🐮// 90kms 🐴
Such a wonderful experience thanks to Forge's Farm - we could not of asked for better weather, better hosts or a better group of people 😍
Now to start the process of getting back to all my work that has been waiting for me 🫣
I see so many interesting things, and always forget to use my camera! But today I had help!
This poor girl got herself stuck in a cattle grid 😱 and is somehow INCREDIBLY lucky.
She has some significant muscle damage, which we will need to manage to reduce scarring. You can see the large black patches on her ultrasound - this represents tearing of the muscle, blood pockets and blood clots 🩸
She will need rehab and follow up ultrasounds from here - but we have all our fingers and toes crossed for a successful recovery ❤️🩹

Emergencies with your horse suck. 🤒
But now it’s even getting harder to get a Vet out right away. The Vet Industry is trying its best to combat this. But in the meantime, I want to help.
I’ve created some EMERGENCY online courses to help horse owners feel a bit more prepared and in control, should something happen.
‼️ choke
‼️ colic
‼️ allergic reactions
‼️ eye injuries
‼️ wounds
These have been written using 10+ years of Vet experience, so aim to bring a slightly different perspective and information.
I want horse owners to know what to do should the worst happen! 💜

This is just the start of your journey!
Just for some lockdown fun we decided to do a time-lapse of an Equine Dental on one of our regular patients. 🦷
Because, why not? 🤷🏼♀️
Obviously there are many different ways to do a Veterinary Dental - this is just a snippet of one of mine 🤠
Got my hands on a shockwave machine to help one of our current patients with

In addition with some other treatments, we use shockwave to help control pain, allowing us to then promote a healthier body posture and stronger back long term.
