Equitana 2024 was a turning point for me.
To be able to collaborate and make new connections made it such a worthwhile few days for me 🥰
I’m excited for my new discoveries, and touched by the kind words of so many people.

To be gifted a free pair of breeches from in support of Veterinarians Mental Health was beyond touching ❤️

I’m so excited by
- 2024 Calendar (miss April here!😅)
- Foundation Hoofcare Book
- signed book 👌
- horse skin products (check them out!)
- H**p Oil & Performance Cookies (can’t wait to try these on my own horses!)
- sun shirts (the 💣)

Thank you to .creative for the opportunity to meet so many businesses and their amazing ideas 💡

I can't believe it is almost the end of the year! 🎄

We have had an EPIC second half to this year which has been incredibly exciting (and full on!!)

Please start thinking of any final appointments as I will be closing consults from Monday December 23rd - Monday January 6th.
➡️ and we are already solidly booked up until half way through December at this stage.

Don't worry - we'll be back in January 2024 - bigger and better than ever! 💪🙌

I will still be seeing urgent cases in that time, and be working on our in-patients rehabs - but these girlies need some breathing time over Christmas to keep our heads in the game.

Interest in our services is growing and I appreciate everyone for their patience as I try and keep up with all messages and requests. It is actually impossible right now to keep up - so I thank everyone for so much support. 💜🩷
- please continue to message me as "giving someone a buzz" is near on impossible at this stage. 😆😴

Please get in touch soon if you're after an appointment, because I hate breaking people's hearts when I say "we're full". 💔

There are definitely some ideas that I like to keep out of social media, that I save for just conversations between myself and my clients.
But this I feel is one I want to throw out there, especially given Equitana this week…

There is a concept running through the Equine Physio and Bodywork world that has me a little baffled. I see it being beneficial to riders, but not so much to the horses.

The concept is
“if the walk is not perfect, don’t trot. If the trot is not perfect, don’t canter”.

This concept baffles me.
The walk, trot and canter and 3 individual gaits with 3 individual foot falls.
Each gait creates different degrees of lateral motion, axial motion and flexion-extension through the spine. Each gait creates different pressure through the abdomen and diaphragm. And each gait loads different elements of the horses body.

The only linear difference in the gaits is speed….
Ie: the trot is faster than the walk, and the canter is faster than the trot.
But what does that have to do with enhancing your horses’ biomechanics?

I have heard people argue “balance” concepts with me, but that also doesn’t act in a linear way. You can have a horse very well balanced in canter, with a terrible trot.
Just watch the gaits your horse chooses to have in the paddock.

If you understand the spinal motion in a horse, you can actually use the 3 gaits to your advantage. For example, studies have shown that pelvic range of motion and thoracolumbar flexion-extension range of motion was greatest at canter, with lateral bend and pelvic range of motion at its lowest in trot.
This means a horse with a weak lumbar spine and weak pelvis can actually use canter as part of its rehab to build up hind end strength.

Horses at trot are actually more likely to be inclined to throw their weight onto the forehand if it’s not being recognised, meaning you can trot for years and not build up their back and pelvis like you want.
Are there conditions where canter is not beneficial? Of course there are. But they are specific conditions, not a blanket approach.

Think back to all those dressage and dry work lessons when you’re instructor says “the best trot you’ll get is straight after a canter”….

Absolutely love the updates from clients out enjoying their horses and doing so well! 🥰❤️
The common denominator here is that every horse has a “problem”, flaw, old injury or a something that needs managing ➡️ and these guys have been committed to their acupuncture, shockwave, Equilates, Treadmill, joint treatments and much more 💪 They haven’t let “scary x-rays”, diagnoses or weakness’ stop them 🙏

The magic happens in the management - not in having the perfect horse (because it doesn’t exist!) 🌟

I am so happy for all of you, and love it when people take the time to tell me ❤️

Our Water Treadmill FAQ's.

How do I get started❓
We have to have knowledge of your horses body before it goes in the treadmill - otherwise we risk flaring conditions, or making little progress. Horses need to have had an examination on their body done within the 3 months prior - by a Vet, registered Osteo, Registered Chiro or Registered Physio.
If this hasn't been done, we do this for you as part of their first visit.

How often does it need to be done ❓
Horses can be booked for as frequent, or infrequent as you like. At the end of the day the frequency needed comes down to your horse and what you want to achieve and improve. There is no magic number or one size fits all approach, it's all individually tailored. We also offer short-stay programs for rehabilitation.

What water do you use ❓
We use filtered salted water. The water is filtered and recycled through our system, and changed on a regular basis. The salt aids in keeping the water healthy, and also provides anti-inflammatory properties.

Do you put nappies on the horses❓
No we do not. Studies show it alters the motion of the back and pelvis, and as such we have chosen to go without.

What conditions is it used for ❓
Nearly everything - rehabilitation as well as general conditioning.
Its' biggest strengths lie with core engagement, pelvic motion, increasing joint motion and increasing stride length.
This would be - increasing topline, managing kissing spines, joint arthritis, spinal weakness, sacroliliac and pelvic conditions, as well as muscle development and fitness conditioning.

What horses cannot go in the treadmill❓
Horses have to be 1 week post any joint injections.
Horses cannot have open wounds or be unwell.
Horses also have to be of a handled nature.

Is it the same as a water walker❓
Most definitely not. The treadmill allows us to control speed - which gives us control over spinal posture and stride length.
Water walkers also have static water depth. The treadmill allows us to increase and decrease the water level based on what you horse needs, and can handle. Many conditions can be flared or made worse by water work, so we need to be able to control these factors to ensure we gain the benefits.

Can anyone use the treadmill❓
Only our trained staff operate the treadmill. There is a huge safety component to the machine, as well as education is needed. You can flare conditions and make them worse when un-trained people use these machines. We ensure our users know how to safely handle the horses, and monitor their bodies for signs of stress, fatigue or concern.

What does it cost ❓
We have a pdf of costs available should you be interested in this service for your horse.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Proud moment! 🥰🥳
Look at these two absolute champions go this weekend! These two girls are part of our mentored rider program, and they make me so proud! 🥰
Alanni (& Nic 🐴) and Airlie (& Topaz 🐴) - you girls are so dedicated to your horses and your pursuits.

Our mentored riders are given guidance on how to get the best from their horses, whilst keeping them sound, happy & strong. These two are lucky enough to have two of the three sponsored positions, utilising lessons, body work and water treadmill 🌟💪

Keep on taking on the world 🌍 girls!! We need more young riders like you in the Equestrian world ❤️

What a busy few weeks it’s been!

Some of you may of met Lily during your visits. Lily spent 3 weeks with us for University work experience, and she was a tremendous help!

We have been booked out with our rehab and treadmill services, which has been showing some great results. We have been treating Kissing Spine, Stifle Cysts, Psoas pain and fatigue, arthritic hocks, weak core muscles, sacroiliac pain and much more.

Yesterday we had a fractured molar extraction. There is nothing easy about these jobs - it took around 4 hours to get the job done ✅
After a few very difficult dental cases the last few weeks, this was a nice one to start the week. We then offer for our patients to stay here for 2-3 days for flushing and pain control, to make their transition home easier.

Throw in the mix some sick horses, laminitis, wounds, Equilates lessons and lots of routine consults. What a few weeks it’s been! 😴💪🐴

Our Story

Equine Health, Spinal & Dentistry is owned and run by horse enthusiast and Equine Veterinarian Dr. Sabine Ware.

Sabine has spent her entire life around horses. Growing up in Whittlesea, Victoria, she spent her childhood attending Pony Club with her horses, as well as call outs with her Veterinarian father. Her equestrian pursuits took her into various disciplines including Eventing, Polocrosse, Mounted Games and even Harness!

After many years working in Private Practice throughout Victoria and Equine Practice in England, Sabine decided to start up the business you know today.

Frustrated by the limitations of conventional veterinary medicine, she went on to do further study in Equine Dentistry and Rehabilitation in the USA. Meaning now she can offer various treatment options including acupuncture, dry needling, chiropractic and much more.
