Don’t forget the gravy!
Have you noticed how so many kitties lick all the gravy, leaving the remnants for later or forever!

My theory is that once the gravy’s devoured, their bristly tongue is able to take up the pieces.

This is the adorable FANCY PANTS and by my next visit to her, everything is gone, she’s eaten the lot.

I’ve seen this noshing arrangement taken up by many cats, it’s what ever works for them.
Does your cat do this? x

(All bits were bought into the centre of the plate again, as a good Cat Butler does) x

Do your cats have alter egos or nicknames!?
I just called our clients cats by the wrong names - they are the beautiful Millie and Tango but I called them Mango & Tilly!
Thank goodness our beautiful client thought it was funny and quite liked the names.

It got me thinking about the many names we call our cats.

Our cat Geordie had lots of nick names - G, Mr Mouse (stole that one from my sister cos it sounded so cute), Little Legs, Chicken Legs, Chicken Pants, Darling, Bouby & Bubby Mouse.
All endearing and all about how cute, sweet and funny he was.

What are some of the names you call your cats - you don’t need to disclose them all 😹xx

A beautiful moment this morning.
SAPPHYs dear Mum leaves the radio on for her when she’s away.

When I arrived this morning, Sapphy was sitting quietly on the bed and Ella Fitzgerald was singing in the background.

Observing the peace and beauty of this moment, I sat down next to Sapphy, she gave me a tiny mew and we both listened to the music.
What a glorious start to the day for both of us.

We’ve been taking a winter break from social media and it has been lovely to focus entirely on our clients, on our visits and on our business.

Spring is just around the corner and we look forward to sharing so much with you as we close out this year and round the corner into the next!

We are taking bookings still for the upcoming school holidays in September and into Christmas and New Year now as well.

We recommend scheduling a booking now for December/January, even if you don’t know your exact dates. This will guard against disappointment and you can always revise dates and or cancel, within our cut off timeframes.

It’s so nice to feel a little sun today, despite the cold temperature.
Keep cosy and well xx

As we come into winter our kitties are looking for warmth.
Here’s a few tips to assist in that.

We recommend finding the sunniest spots in your home that capture any morning or afternoon sun and place a bed there and or a cat tower.

If you’re able to we recommend leaving some heating on low, even 17 degrees is great to keep the chill off.

And we also suggest heating up heat bags and or place water bottles in beds especially for your older and more senior cats.

You can even make up a makeshift igloo with a couple of pillows and a blanket over the top; a cats own body heat with help to make that space so cosy for them.

You might find they also want a little more food to stock up their fat reserves. All perfectly normal as we get into the much colder days.

Two of our beautiful clients and and a gorgeous tree I came across in Hawthorn xx

I don’t think I’ve ever posted anything about how I started The Cat Butler.
For anyone who doesn’t know or who is finding us the for the first time, here goes!

15 years ago I was working for an International Consultancy firm as a Stakeholder Engagement professional. I’d been a lot for work and I was working as part of a bid team, working towards winning a huge project worth hundreds of millions of dollars; the pressure was intense.
My body was wrecked, I wasn’t looking after my health; I was burnt out. One morning I couldn’t get out of bed, I couldn’t stop crying and I was in physical pain - hello nervous breakdown.

After taking a break and sleeping for three weeks, I walked back into work and resigned. I was done with corporate.

I thought, if I never return to a corporate life, what will I do, how will I pay my way?

Our cat Geordie would stretch out along our window ledge and rest in the sun and I said to him, “I’d love to look after you full time” and that sort of planted the seed of the idea.
I’ve always been a giving person, very service orientated and playing in my head were the words ‘cats’, ‘service’

I popped up to Sydney and hang out with a dear friend for while and one day I met her at her work and while she took a call, I got chatting to a colleague of hers.
She asked what I did.
I said I’d been thinking about caring for cats in their homes, doing their food, water etc and she said “like a butler service but for cats” and that was it!
I came home to my now husband and said what about The Cat Butler!?

I registered the name, my dear friend’s husband designed the logo and I printed my first flyers.

To my absolute and ongoing delight, our vet (then the Cat Clinic Prahran) took a flyer and said, if we hear good things Helen, we’ll let people know about you ❤️

My dear friend Kim was my very first client with her baby cat Gypsy George and then some of my husband’s work colleagues followed with their .

Bookings continue to come in and I’m often overwhelmed with gratitude.
What a journey so far; there’s probably a book there!
Thank you for reading and following, hope we can be of service to you.

We love the staggered feeding approach, especially when there’s one cat that likes to eat more than the other.
In some cat homes there’s often a grazer and a guzzler.
The grazing cat wants to save some food for later and often goes to great lengths to smooth their paw (scent) all around their food bowl, creating an impenetrable force field!
And then there’s the guzzler; you can guess what they do. They also break down the grazers force field and steal the food kept for later.

Staggering cats eating sittings over 30-45min is a great way for them both to enjoy their food and feel full. It also helps the guzzler to slow down their digestion and prevent vomiting.

This is HENRIETTA & MONTAGUE at their third sitting.
Here’s to happy bellies and happy cats xx

YUKI has oceans for eyes.
Have you ever looked closely at a cat’s eyes?
They’re like a mini universe.
Oceans, rain clouds, stormy dark nights, solar systems with flashes of gold and forests of colour.
They’re absolutely mesmerising.
