Parvo is on the rise again, keep your pups safe !

Attention all dog owners in the Kalgoorlie area: a new outbreak of parvovirus has been confirmed, with 5 cases reported in just three days. This dangerous virus can spread quickly, and dogs do not need to leave their yard to contract it.

Symptoms to watch for include lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, and severe diarrhea. If you notice any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Prevention is key. Ensure your dogs are up to date on vaccinations, as these are crucial in protecting them from this deadly virus. Please take this situation seriously and follow all health guidelines to keep our furry friends safe.

🦠 PARVOVIRUS🦠
WE HAVE SEEN INCREASED NUMBERS OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS.

What is it? 🐶
Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus commonly affecting the lining of the small intestine, leading to severe vomiting and diarrhoea in young or unvaccinated dogs.

Symptoms? 🤢
Loss of appetite, lethargy, abdominal bloating/pain, vomiting, diarrhoea (sometimes containing blood), fever or a lower temperature

How do dogs get Parvo? 🤷‍♀️
The virus can withstand routine cleaning and weather changes, which means it can be extremely difficult to stop it from spreading. Parvovirus is spread through faeces of infected animals which means it is easily transferred from paws even people’s shoes or other items that have been in contact with the virus. Dogs can easily come into contact with the virus just by sniffing the ground when on walks or while at the dog park. Direct dog-to-dog contact is not necessary for a dog to become infected with parvovirus.

How to prevent Parvovirus? 💉
VACCINATIONS. Did you know puppies are required to have 3 vaccinations within the first 16weeks of their life. One at 6-8 weeks, one at 10-12 weeks and one at 14-16 weeks. Once completed they are protected from 2 weeks after their final vaccination. After that routine annual vaccinations are all this is needed to protect your dog from this deadly virus.
Subsequent vaccinations are based on your vet’s recommendations, considering the dog’s age and lifestyle.
Avoid walking puppies in parks or outside of the home until 2 weeks after their final vaccination. Regularly wash any bedding, food or water bowls and always dispose of faeces promptly on walks. Treating parvovirus can be very intensive and very costly, the easiest and most cost effective way is to vaccinate.

Think your pet may have Parvovirus?🤒
A simple faecal swab can be tested in house which only takes about 15minutes to receive results. Our friendly nurses are happy to take these samples in the car park to prevent potential spread of the virus.

🚨Please DO NOT enter the clinic if you suspect your dog has parvovirus. Give us a call on 08 90213965 and we will guide you with what to do from there🚨

It’s coming, be prepared so your pets don’t suffer 😊🐾❤️

That escalated quickly! A week of temps in the mid-thirties is on its way and it's important we keep our pets safe in the heat! 🥰🐶

The two most common heat-related welfare reports we receive every year are people walking their dogs on hot roads, footpaths, and beach sand, and dogs being left in hot cars. 😰

This is a reminder to please protect your hound and check the ground before a walk, and to never leave your pet in a parked car.

Before you take your dog out for your walk, check the surface temperature by placing your palm down on the ground. If you can't comfortably hold it there for five seconds, it's too hot for your dog's sensitive paws and may cause injury. ♨️

If you need to go for a drive, leave your dog at home where there is shade and plenty of water, where you know they will be safe. There is no excuse for leaving them locked in a car.

Let's keep our best friends safe. Help us spread the word. It's the first truly warm week of the season - let's safely enjoy the sunny weather together. 🥰

It’s been a while since announcing my cancellation of bookings. I thought I’d give everyone an update.
Our family is still navigating our very different looking future, it has taken some adjustment. Although it is a very dynamic situation and nothing ever goes to plan. I’m anticipating many months of consultations with doctors and specialists, lots of time here, there and everywhere. Faye and Kimberly will be available very sporadically, so please don’t rely on us solely for your pet sitting needs. There are other pet sitters available in Kalgoorlie, I can send you a list if you like.
We are still remaining positive, that this whole situation is just a speed bump in life, that we will navigate our way through, and come out the other side, no matter how long it takes.
Thank you everyone for your understanding and support. It really is immensely appreciated. ❤️🫶

Oh boy prepare yourselves for a bit of a long post.
From this moment forward, for the foreseeable future, I will not be available for any bookings. Clients already booked in, will continue to be looked after. Due to health and family reasons, our family has been thrown a massive curveball, that we didn’t see coming, I’ve prided myself on delivering an exemplary service to my community and your beautiful pets. It’s been a wonderful 18 years thus far. I’m heartbroken to have to deliver this news. To my beloved clients, Faye and Kimberly might be able to assist, but it really depends on their schedules and availability. We will not be taking on any new clients until things settle down. Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart, much love to you all, if and when I’m back working, I’ll be sure to update everyone. Hug your loved ones extra tight, don’t put off till tomorrow, what you can do today. 😢🐾❤️
