Our organisation is the leader in the zero euthanasia movement nationally and is considered a national leader in animal welfare. AWLQ locally provides a safe haven for close to 10,000 stray and homeless animals each year, while also assisting other communities in saving homeless animals. In addition to our shelter

work, we are committed to keeping pets and people together by providing lifesaving support and resources to people in need with companion animals. We are known for our grassroots and innovative community-based animal welfare work including our community vet clinics, Getting to Zero, Golden Hearts Seniors’ Support Program and the National Desexing Network.

18 years ago Chocco was adopted from AWLQ Gold Coast and was lucky enough to find a home with Danielle and her family! 🏡💜

"In 2006, whilst pregnant with my second child, we adopted a 2 year old three legged cat named Chocco from Gold Coast AWL. Fast forward 18 years and Chocco is still a beloved member of our family, outranking 3 of my 4 children. (He has been around longer than them ;) We are grateful for every “milestone” he is here for, including recently celebrating that second child’s 18th birthday last week.
Not many people can say they have a 20 year old three legged geriatric cat that bosses around the family German shepherd, but we are lucky enough to! Hoping Chocco continues to make a few more milestones yet."

Are you ready to ensure your furry friends live their best lives? We've got you covered with 5 simple tips for a happy and healthy pet straight from our amazing vets at our Community Vet Clinics! 🐶🐱 Because every wag of the tail and purr of contentment deserves to be cherished. ❤️

1️⃣ Ensure your animal has a well groomed coat with clean eyes and ears. To help maintain your pet's hygiene they should be being brushed regularly as well as having their nails clipped.

2️⃣ Make sure your animal is eating appropriate food, as well as the correct amount of food. Read the feeding guide of the brand of food you’ve selected for your pet to ensure their health and happiness is protected.

3️⃣ Provide your animal with proper social enrichment as well as help them practice their independence. We all need friends, right? And it’s no different for our animal companions. If you notice that your pet is extra clingy, always needing attention or suffering from some separation anxiety, it may be time to get them acquainted with some other pet pals or reduce the dependence they have solely on you.

4️⃣ Make certain your animal is in a secured home with proper fence heights and ensure you are closing doors.

5️⃣ Give your pet a whole lot of unconditional love! Creating a bond of love and trust between you and your pet is vital for their well-being.

They say many hands make light work which is why we are so grateful for those businesses that choose to spend a day at one of our Animal Welfare League Queensland Animal Rehoming Centres and help out with some of our projects.🐾

Recently we were fortunate enough to have the wonderful team from Colliers Real Estate Management Services Surfers Paradise participate in a Corporate Volunteer Day at our Gold Coast Rehoming Centre and they went straight to work helping clear out the sites for the new dog yard upgrades, painting outdoor areas, landscaping and of course lots of interaction with our shelter pets who loved the extra attention!

Our Corporate Volunteer program is one of the many ways businesses can support the work that do in looking after the animals in our care by helping to complete upgrades, renovations and restorations of areas.

Thank you to the team at Colliers Surfers Paradise for their hard work and support in helping to start our dog yard upgrades and we are looking forward to sharing the finished product of our newly upgraded dog yards in the weeks to come. Last month Animal Welfare League Queensland was invited by the Brisbane City Council to participate in facilitating an important community initiative, Homeless Connect.

Hosted at the RNA Showgrounds, the initiative is an annual one day event created to provide free services to those who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness and one in which Animal Welfare League Queensland has been strongly involved in for many years.

Our AWLQ team had so many meaningful conversations with some truly inspiring members of the community including those who are not only looking after themselves but their pets also. Our organisation offered support through pet food, preventative medicine, bedding, leads, collars in addition to advice on our AWLQ Pet Support programs and the services of our Community Vet Clinic.

This support was only made possible through the generosity of donations from companies and organisations such as MSD for over 300 preventative treatments and Animal Rescue Cooperative (ARC) for supplying pet food and of course our incredible team of AWLQ volunteers!

We appreciate the opportunity to be involved each year in such an important initiative and to meet some of the most incredibly dedicated pet owners who would often put their pets needs before their own.

A massive thank you to our friends at Pet Circle and the Easter Bunny who gave our animals some very special gifts earlier this week! Our dogs, cats, guinea pigs and birds were surprised with a car-load of wonderful toys, bedding and other goodies to keep their spirits high! 🙌 To commemorate Easter, the dogs were given the opportunity to choose their very own toys, with the help of the Easter Bunny.
