PEANUTS STORY 🥜 Peanut fractured his Humerus. This is a bone in the upper arm/forelimb and connects the shoulder and the elbow. No one knows the true story as to how young Peanut fractured his front leg. It is suspected he was playing and jumping at home and landed incorrectly. Now, with the hard work of our orthopaedic veterinarians he is back on the road to recovery in rehab with our nurses. It’s not every day you see a cat walking in an UNDERWATER TREADMILL but Peanut takes it in his stride and walks like he’s on the catwalk 😉 🐾 Peanut shows his appreciation by making our rehab nurses biscuits and cookies 🥹🤍We are so proud of how far Peanut has come and excited to get him back to full activity in a few weeks. 🐾
The TEAM is so excited about the big move! We wanted to know what they thought the best and most exciting parts of the move are! Here’s what they said! 🦎🐢🤍🐾🦜🐈
JAVA HAS HER EYE ON THE PRIZE 🧸 Java comes in for Hydrotherapy to treat her Cauda Equina. This can involve the narrowing of the vertebral canal resulting in compression of the spinal nerve roots. Since coming into rehab she has been able to return to normal dog life and runs through our doors with excitement every rehab visit! We’d like to think it was for our nurses but deep down we know she’s here for the toys 😂
POV! When you leave your leave bird at the vet for the day and they are more upset then a toddler in pre-school 😂😂
Bringing in the big guns for this checkup! This talkativeo bird is ready to get a thorough exam and make sure everything’s in order.
The Easter Bunny left our nurses a little Easter surprise! 🐰 🐑🥚
And all our nurses have gone ga ga!!
IT DOESN’T GET MUCH CUTER THEN THIS WITH HIS LITTLE HOP, SKIP, JUMP 🐑
Can confirm minimal work will be getting done today while little TUCKER THE LAMB is in the hospital 🥹 We be motivating the team with Tucker cuddles today 😂
Did you know that 𝑹𝑬𝑯𝑨𝑩 at Illawarra Animal Hospital is included in the price of our MLP, DeAngelis and TPLO orthopaedic surgeries? Lucy got a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) and completed her 6 weeks of post operative rehabilitation. Every treatment is slightly different as we devise a plan specifically to your pet but includes hydrotherapy, massage, TENS therapy and laser therapy which is what you see above! Lucy’s favourite part of rehab is the snack and cuddles!
Everyone Meet Max! The 5yr old dachshund. Max suffers from a spinal injury known at intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). IVDD is a condition where the discs between the spinal vertebrae fragment or herniate causing a loss of cushioning and put pressure on the spinal cord. When this disc material pushes on the spinal cord it can cause pain, nerve damage and even paralysis. Max is a regular patient in our rehab centre and will continue to come for support and strengthening. Today was a very special day for Max, his amazing humans and the rehab team to see him run again for the first time in months. Max couldn’t contain his excitement and was running around the consult room like a race car. There’s no stopping him now! #IVDD #rehab #rehabilitation #caninerehab #dachshund #veterinary #vetlife #dogsofinstagram #dachshundsofinstagram

CASE STUDY WITH ILLWARRA ANIMAL HOSPITAL
CASE STUDY ~ Mahli's Fracture Repair
Mahli is a beautiful French Bulldog who jumped off a retaining wall when she was so excited to see her owner come home. Unfortunately she fractured her humerus and was rushed to Illawarra Animal Hospital.
CAN YOU SPOT THE FRACTURE?
This type of fracture is complex and is known as a Y fracture of the humeral condyle. It definitely kept Dr. Paul and Dr Ryan busy!
Her leg was X-rayed and then bandaged for support until surgery. In the the meantime the nurses spoiled her with love.
After a long and successful surgery which ended in 2 plates and 12 screws our surgical team was thrilled and Mahli was officially on the road to recovery.
After Surgery she had to have regular bandage changes to continue to give her support and check how she is healing.
Now Mahli is running around living her best life with her brother Archie and older sister Snuffi.
We are happy to announce we are now offering GapOnly™. 🐾
A faster way to claim your eligible vet bills, meaning you only need to pay the ‘GAP’(𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺)
