'Hunter'

Golden Retriever pup 'Hunter' came in to see Dr Iain yesterday for his 2nd puppy vaccination and health check.

He's only 8.6kg now, but looking at the size of those paws, he's going to be a big boy ❤️ 😍🐾

Dr Ola, Vet student Hugo and Veterinary Technician student Olivia recently treated 'Poppet,' a ewe with a uterine prolapse.

Uterine prolapse affects around 0.1% (1 in 1000) of ewes during lambing.
Occurring shortly after lambing, the ewe's uterus is pushed to varying degrees through the open cervix, protruding through the va**na.
The size of the prolapse varies from partial to complete with the mass of the uterus hanging below the ewe's hocks.
Treated as a medical emergency, the prolapse should be replaced quickly to prevent further trauma and tears to the va**na.

Dr Ola administered an epidural to numb the area and minimise pushing to ease the replacement of the prolapse.
The prolapse was held in place with a Buhner suture which is a purse-string style suture that is tightened enough to leave an opening of approximately 3cm to allow Poppet to urinate freely.

Fun fact - the everted uterus has a large number of mushroom-like lumps called "caruncles"
Caruncles are lumps of uterine tissue which connect with "cotyledons" on the foetal placenta.

We have enlisted the lovely Kelly from K n J Photography - Family, Maternity, Pet and Children Photographer a local professional photographer to take our charity Santa photos this year!

ESK - Wednesday 27th NOV, 2 - 5pm
FERNVALE- Friday 6th DEC, 2 - 5pm

Cost: $50.
Participants will have access to a gallery of images to choose from. You will receive 2 professionally edited high quality images with the option to purchase more.

We are supporting Angel Flight this year, with $25 from every booking going to our chosen charity.

Dr Caitlin has been out recently on farm visits and met 'Sultan' unofficially, the largest Donkey in Australia 😮

Dr Caitlin and Vet Student Nicholas have been out on farm performing a foal check and IgG test to newborn foal, Tequila.
Tequila was also checked for Meconium impaction.

Meconium is a newborn foal's first manure and is composed of intestinal secretions and fluid injested by the foal while in utero. Generally passed within the first 3-4 hours after birth, anything over 24hrs is considered an impaction.

Tequila needed a little assistance in the form of an e***a.
He also passed his IgG test with flying colours with a score of 1555! (800 is a pass) ❤️
