RAT BAIT INGESTION 🐀🩸

Recently we’ve seen a huge increase in the number of patients presenting to the clinic as an emergency for the ingestion of rat baits. 🩺

Winter typically sees more bait ingestions as more homes are likely to be frequented by rodents, therefore requiring some sort of bait control.

Unfortunately the baits we reach for have ingredients that stop the blood from clotting, and while straight after ingesting there is no side affects it is what follows in the coming days that can be incredibly serious and potentially fatal. 🆘

If you notice immediately or even a few days later it is vital that you seek immediate veterinary attention to achieve the best outcome possible. Remember to always seek the help of professionals if baiting is 100% necessary.

Give me a Beagle but double it! 🐕🐕

This is ‘Dolchae’ a almost 6 month old (😱) Bloodhound! He is over 30kg and still growing. Bloodhounds are in the similar canine class to Beagles and Basset Hounds. They were originally used for their scenting abilities and hunting of wild boar! 🐗

We were absolutely besotted by ‘Dolchae’ and those big beautiful ears! 🥰🐾

NEW STAFF 💕

Dr Hannah had a very handsome Rottweiler ‘Baz’ & his very cheeky sister ‘Freya’ in for a visit on Tuesday. 🩺🤍

Both dogs had their vaccines and a good check over, apart from all the craziness that comes with two large breed dogs these two were wonderful to have in clinic! 🥰🐕‍🦺🦮

What’s new pussycat!? 💜🐈

We know Feliway isn’t new but we love introducing it to as many new kitty patients in hospital as possible. Any veterinary clinic environment can be incredibly stressful and if we can make it easier we certainly will! 💁🏼‍♀️💟

Cats communicate through natural messages that they release into the environment via “pheromones”. Cats will rub their face against corners, people and furniture in the home when they are happy and comfortable. 😻

At times in our modern environments cats can become stressed and don’t release those happy pheromones, leading to behaviours we ideally don’t like to see such as urine spraying, scratching and being secluded.🙀

Having FELIWAY in your home helps to send those happy pheromones to cats which helps them to feel safe and secure in their homes. 🏡☮️

We are incredibly lucky to have some fabulous clients and their beautiful pets come to our clinic. Traditionally we get cards and chocolates as thanks for caring for these pets in times of need. 🤕❤️‍🩹

Easter is incoming! 🍫🔜

There is no doubt going to be loads of chocolate and eggs everywhere this weekend and it is important to keep it all out of reach of our dogs. 🐕 🚫

Keep in mind darker chocolates and any baking chocolates are incredibly potent and even small amounts can cause the symptoms below. If your pets ingest chocolate please seek advice don’t simply assume they will be fine. 🫣

Our pets are living longer these days there’s no doubt about it, and we see some pets kept in the very best ways!

‘Foxy’ is a lovely Alaskan Malamute who recently turned 14! 😳🩶

She’s had some ups and downs recently with her health, but her humans cherish her and are always so diligent and have a great attitude towards preventative care for her!

We hope to care for this beautiful old girl for as long as possible! Go Foxy! 🎈

Lucy Lou the sweetest little Jack Russell X was desexed two weeks ago, she recovered perfectly and terrorised everyone at home with her cone! 🐾😅

She celebrated getting her cone off by going on a beautiful holiday over the long weekend! 💕☀️

We had Australia’s most loveable Blue Heeler in the clinic and no it wasn’t Bluey! 💙

‘Heather’ a 10mth old Blue Heeler come in for investigation of a non resolving lump in her muzzle. Dr David and nurse Tash looked after her for her anaesthetic and surgery and managed to retrieve a pesky grass seed. 🌾

We loved having her in the clinic and are so glad we got a great outcome for Heather! ✨🐾

We are in for a beautiful but HOT weekend ahead! ☀️🥵

We unfortunately know that the heat doesn’t suit our companion animals and it is vital that you understand how to keep them safe during the heat.

🔥 No exercise during the day, ideally only when the sun is coming up or going down.
🔥 Lots of shelter and water, inside in air conditioning is best.
🔥 Brachycephalic or short faced dogs are at a far higher risk or heat stroke.

Immediately call us if you find your pets suffering from:
▪️ Lethargy
▪️Excessive drooling
▪️Vomiting
▪️Diarrhoea

We know in a post covid world we have all seen the always at home effects on our animals. Anxiety, aggression, impulse control and fearfulness are all behaviours growing in our domestic dogs. 🐕 🤯

Dog training isn’t just attending puppy school and hoping our dogs will survive the outside world. It’s like sending our children to kindergarten and hope that it adequately sets them up for life. 🐾

In clinic we see lots of unwanted behaviours but it just showcases how important it is to make sure our animals are well rounded in all environments.

If you are having trouble with your pets behaviours, whether it be small or huge it’s best to act as soon as possible. Our team have a list of local training organisations that can help you or specialised in home trainers that can also help.

Dear old ‘Milton’ the Whippet was in clinic not long ago for a small lump removal and a dental scale & polish. 🩹🦷

He is such a gentleman and was a beautiful patient all day. He’s doing well and heads into his senior years with a good bill of health! 🖤
