Was lucky enough to spend 3 days learning from brilliant animal behaviourist in Daylesford, AND I only had one incredibly brief migraine 🙂‍↕️

If you don’t know Ken’s work, he’s done some incredible things in training and conservation. He’s taught chimps to scream in unison when they see people so rangers can arrest illegal poachers, and he’s currently working on teaching elephants to safely adjust their migration routes to avoid poachers - using fully remote training so humans don’t become reinforcing. His elephant project has reduced deaths from 60-70 a year down to around 5-10, all from natural causes, and for the first time in 30 years the population has actually increased!

These three days have been so valuable and I’m genuinely grateful I got to be there. I’ve been taking a bit of a hiatus from training lately thanks to my questionable brain function, but I’m feeling excited to get back into it and help more doggos and their humans 🫶🏼

I often hear that force free training can’t get results as quickly or as well as using aversives, but having trained both ways, that’s just not true.

With Panda, we used positive reinforcement the whole way through, with a small amount of negative reinforcement in her leash work, but not the escape and avoidance kind.

I teach leash pressure by first making it positive: the lightest bit of tension, like a silk thread, predicts good things. The dog isn’t trying to avoid pressure, they’re responding to it because it means reward’s coming.

While there is technically an element of negative reinforcement as the dog learns to release pressure, the foundation and emotional experience of the exercise remain firmly rooted in positive reinforcement.

✨ It’s finally here! ✨
My brand new 6 Week Reactive Dog Group Training Program starts October 4, in a fully private park in Dingley Village!

This program is designed for:
Dogs who bark, lunge, or get over-excited on walks

Owners who want to feel more confident and in control

Teams who need safe space and positive, structured practice

Here’s what’s included:
Small group format (max 4 dogs) for personalised support

TWO private parks hired for extra safety and space

Step by step weekly video lessons with lifetime access

Ongoing support for troubleshooting between sessions

6 in person group sessions to safely practice skills around triggers

Practical skills like safe leash handling, emergency u turns, and behaviour modification techniques

Learn about why your dog behaves the way they do, how to meet all of their needs, and how this links directly to their reactivity

This program won’t “cure” reactivity in 6 weeks (that’s not realistic), but it will give you the tools, structure, and a safe place to practice, so you can finally enjoy walking your dog again.

Spots are very limited - just 4 available.
To register your interest, DM me “BIG FEELINGS” today.
After you fill out our intake form, you’ll be added to the waitlist and I’ll reach out personally to confirm if the program is the right fit for you and your dog before spots are finalised!
