From Bonnie and Scooby in 2016 to Bonnie and Clancy in 2025 🥹

Bonnie and Scooby were one of my very first clients and I have been blessed enough to intermittently care for Bon for 9 years! Bonnie and Scooby were the reason I got into dog training and also the reason I fell in love with gundogs!

This is your reminder that you don’t HAVE to walk your dog if it isn’t benefiting them.

Champ was swooped by a magpie recently, has the stress of us packing, having been away recently, taking him to visit his new home, having realtors and trades come through our current place and the wild weather. All of this has resulted in him being really nervous while outside and often turning around to go home after toileting.

This morning I held his harness out for him to put his head into and he walked away from it and sat waiting to be let on to the couch instead. So I put his harness away, and we’re currently having a cuddle.

He is a high energy breed and needs exercise, but if he clearly communicates to me that he doesn’t want to go out, we aren’t going out. Instead we will cuddle, play some scent games and do some of his physical rehab to give him the enrichment he needs and then we’ll try again this afternoon.

Walks aren’t the only way to enrich your dog and taking a break or ceasing all together while providing other appropriate enrichment is completely fine if that improves your dogs quality of life.

What are some ways you provide your dog with enrichment that isn’t a street or park walk?

We have made changes to the way our services function:

Our Morning Adventures and Puppy School services remain unaffected, but the training process now operates differently:

Initial consultation

The first step in beginning your training journey with Chloe's Canine Co is to have an initial consultation. This consultation, which lasts for 90 minutes, is used to gather a complete history of your dog, discuss your training goals, determine the number of sessions needed, decide if 1 on 1 behaviour modification or day training is more suitable, and establish management techniques to be used between the initial consultation and subsequent sessions.

Packages

Choose from the following session options:
- 4 sessions
- 8 sessions
- 12 sessions

Approach

1 on 1 behavior modification

Our 1 on 1 behaviour modification sessions will reveal the secrets to having a well-behaved dog and will enable you to once again enjoy spending time with your beloved pet. These sessions will be conducted with the owner present, and full support will be provided between sessions.

Day training

When you are occupied with life's demands, Chloe will handle the training on your behalf!

Regular updates and videos of your dog's progress during these sessions will be provided. After completing three day training sessions, a handover session will be arranged between you, your dog, and Chloe, in order to teach you the necessary skills to maintain your dog's new behaviours. If you choose 8 or 12 sessions, this process will be repeated: three day training sessions followed by one handover session.

Training doesn't have to feel like a burden!

Typically, I train my dog during walks, I reward good behavior when he's around other dogs or when we practice recall. I also incorporate training throughout the day by having him sit before going outside, before joining me on the couch, and before meals etc.

However, if I want to teach my dog something specific or if there are too many distractions outside, I split my training sessions into two shorter sessions, lasting 2-5 minutes each, per day.

I've noticed that my clients find it more manageable to do these sessions in the morning, before their dogs have breakfast, and in the evening, before their dogs have dinner. If the food used for their meals is highly enticing, it can be incorporated into these sessions.

Always keep in mind the abilities of your own dog. Some dogs, especially easily distracted puppies, can only handle a training session with three repetitions for example. The goal is to finish just before your dog's motivation reaches its peak, so they (and you) stay engaged and interested in the training!
