💙 Hello There! I'm Staria...

I came to the RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter as a surrender as sadly my previous owners could no longer care for me. I'm now on the lookout for my new forever home! I am a pretty awesome dog. If I do say so myself!

I can be a little shy at first but once I get to know you I will come out of my shell and show you my really fast zoomies. I am a little bit unsure of other dogs so I would need to be an only dog and off leash doggie parks would not suit my sensitive nature.

I have been a little bit anxious whilst at the shelter so I am on some medication to help me feel more comfortable during my stay. If you are interested in adopting me you will have to speak to a vet about this to help transition me into your loving home.

💙 HI, MY NAME IS TEDDY!

I've been vacating at the RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter for a while now and I think that I'm ready to find a new home! When I think about my perfect home I picture myself being the only dog because I just prefer the company of hoomans. Someone with experience with the bulldog breed would be ideal as well! That way I know you'll speak my language.

I can get a little excited and occasionally jump, so a quiet household with no children under 15 years would be essential. I know how to sit very well and hope that you'll be able to teach me even more!

💙 HI EVERYONE, MY NAME IS ASH!

I came into the care of the RSPCA through no fault of my own and am now looking for a family to grow old with.

Could that be with you?

I was quite timid when I arrived at the shelter and the staff have really helped me feel more confident in myself. However, because of this it’s really important that I go home with a family that is experienced with cats and has a quiet household without children.

I need good nutrition, fresh water available at all times, warm bedding, an easily accessed litter tray, regular grooming, annual health checks including vaccinations, lots of toys and, of course, play and cuddle time!

As you can see I am the most gorgeous cat ever! I came to the RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter as a stray but after much hope from the staff, sadly my previous owners never came in to reclaim me.

So now I'm looking for my new furever home where I can get loads of pats and cuddles and I can have a warm lap to snuggle on as well as lots of toys and all the attention I deserve! That's not too much to ask is it?

💛 HAPPY TAILS FURR-IDAY! 🎉

Did you know... that through our partnership with the Petbarn Foundation, RSPCA NSW animals can be adopted from a Petbarn Adoption Centre? This means we can care for more animals than ever before and find more forever families for animals in need.

We recently received this heart warming update from the family of Pirate who he found during his stay at the Petbarn Adoption Centre in Katoomba:

"We never in a million years expected this beautiful cat to fit straight into our family the way he has, so seamlessly! He spent the first 24 hours hiding under furniture, which was to be expected, and after that he has been an instant part of the family. He is very easy to live with and has been no trouble at all.

He welcomes us at the door with chirping noises when we get home and is always otherwise snuggled on someone's lap! As we work and live locally, he is hardly at home alone for long and we have suddenly had a reason to want to stay in.

Thank you so so very much for helping us find our furry friend Pirate who we adore so much and we are so so grateful to his previous owners for allowing us the opportunity to take care of him. As the only pet we have, he is definately the furry Prince at our place!"

💛 HAPPY TAILS FURR-IDAY! 🎉

Do you remember Tobias who featured on our page recently looking for a loving home? Well, he found just the thing and his new family have sent us this update with a few snaps of Tobias relaxing in his new pad!

"Hello to all the wonderful staff at RSPCA Blue Mountains. We adopted Tobias last April 23rd and I just want to say thank you for a great service and a seamless process of the adoption. Tobias has adjusted with us and he is doing quite well. I have included some pictures of him. Keep up the good work caring for all the animals, hoping they find their furever homes as well. Cheers!"

With many animals finding there forever homes over the weekend, reduced price adoptions continue at our RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter this week with most animals having their adoption fee reduced by half!

💙 REDUCED PRICE ADOPTIONS BEGIN TODAY!

We know that every moment spent in the shelter is another moment our animals aren't able to share their love and bring joy to a family. That is why we have decided to reduce our adoption prices by half to help more animals find loving homes!

We understand that reduced price promotions can raise concerns about the possibility of the animals going to the wrong homes, but we want to assure you that our standard adoption process still applies. Our animal care team is dedicated to ensuring that every animal finds their perfect match and goes to the right home!

❤️ ANIMAL VETERANS, LEST WE FORGET

On Anzac Day, we solemnly reflect on the courage of those who gave their service and loyalty to our country. We remember the troops and animals who fought bravely alongside each other through warfare and served our country with bravery and honour.

The 24th of February is the National Day for War Animals in Australia. However, on ANZAC Day, we also value and acknowledge the contributions of animals in war.

Donkeys, horses, mules, cats, dogs, birds, turtles and more, all made valuable and often unique contributions, providing comfort, support and helping the troops in the trenches and on the battlefield. Donkeys and horses provided a means of transport, dogs served as guards, cats assisted with rats and mice, pigeons were messengers and many more served as mascots.

I'm a bit of a shy guy with new things, but if I have someone by my side to reassure me I can do anything! I'm a bouncy young fella. I love to learn, and I aim to please and make you smile.

I enjoy pats from my good friends here at the RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter! I try to crawl on their laps even though I'm getting a little big now - but I still fit!

💙 HI THERE! MY NAME IS CHESTER...

I came into the RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter as a stray and unfortunately my family didn’t come to reclaim me. I’ve been exposed to heaps of new and exciting things - but I think I would much prefer to be in a home environment.

There’s a couple of specifics on my new family checklist! I’d really love to meet the whole family including other dogs before going home with you.

💙 HELLO, I'M OPAL!

I'm a super sleek lady who just wants to live the good life... I enjoy sleeping, going for a stroll, having a sniff and sometimes a little zoom if I'm feeling extra happy!

I can get a little stressed at times and I don't like to show it so my signals are pretty subtle - but the staff here at the shelter have been taking good care of me and will help my new people understand my quirks.

I'm ready to go on new adventures with new people who will love me and I can love back even more! I'm best suited to a home where I can go inside and outside when I want, no cats or pocket pets just in case they are a bit too exciting and I want to chase them, someone who knows a bit about my breed - but most of all a home where I will live a good happy life!

💚 HI! MY NAME IS PUSS...

At the moment I'm having a holiday at my foster home! I'm a sweet female ginger looking for a furever home to spend my older years in. I'm very affectionate and really enjoy some good company in the sun.

I have some lingering flu like symptoms, such as sneezing and nasal discharge (chronic rhinitis) that require me to live indoors in a quiet house with no other cats - but this doesn't stop me from loving you or enjoying a good quality of life!

🧡 HI THERE! MY NAME IS BUDDY...

I came into the care of the RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter through no fault of my own and I’m now ready to find my furrever family! Could that be you?

I am a friendly and loving boy but being a Rabbit I can scare easily and don’t like being handled too roughly. A little time and patience with handling should have me snuggling up to you in no time.

I am looking for a home to be able to relax with my new family and be able to spend the days sleeping and eating. I would love a big hutch that I can run around and play in but it has to be secure because I also like to dig. I would hate to get out and forget my way home!

A secure cage will also protect me from predators that maybe don’t like rabbits as much as you. I love my rabbit pellets but my favourite foods include fresh veggies and fruit. I also love toys. Anything that I can chew to wear my teeth down so they don’t over grow.

I don’t do well in extreme heat. You will need to bring me inside or give me frozen water bottles and wet towels to cool me down. I am already desexed so you will just have to keep up with my vaccinations and treatments when you take me home. Not too much to ask for my furry paws and tail is it?

💙 HEY THERE, MY NAME IS TANGO!

I am puppy who is excitedly looking for my new family who can help me become more confident and trusting of the world around me. While I am a very curious boy, I am timid and a little bit scared of life here at the RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter. I have been exposed to heaps of new and exciting things but being here has been a little bit too much for me so I need more time to get used to the world and all the things I’ve missed out on.

I can be quite unsure when it comes to meeting new people and I will need some time to warm up to you. So please go slow with me. I will need to meet all members of the family and it would be great if my new family has had experience with large breed dogs too because I will eventually grow up to be a big dog, so a family that is familiar with my specific needs is important.

I will need a quiet household with indoor and outdoor access so that I have space to retreat when I need to. I will also need positive training. I LOVE TREATS so that will be fun for both of us! The lovely team here can chat about this with you a lot more when we meet!

Before I forget, I do have other siblings and some of them have told me having another friendly and social dog to share a home with is wonderful and lots of fun! So if you have one of those it would be super helpful for me but we will need to meet first to make sure we get along!

With high temperatures expected today around the state, if you’re not sure whether it’s too hot to walk your dog, just follow the 5-second rule 🖐️🐶

Simply place the back of your hand on a surface for five seconds. If you can’t handle the heat, your dog can’t either and it would be best to wait till things cool down before venturing out 🚶‍♀️

Your dog can easily overheat when walking in the warmer weather. Dogs cool themselves through their paws and by panting. They simply can’t do this if the ground and air is too hot! 🥵

To avoid burning your pooch’s pads, try walking early in the morning before the pavement has heated up or later at night on cooler grassed areas 🌿

If you think your pet has overheated or is suffering from heat related issues, call an RSPCA veterinary hospital or your local veterinarian immediately.

💚 HEY THERE! I'M PAOLO...

I've been taking a little holiday at the RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter since coming in as a stray recently. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find my way back home but I'm hoping I can find my way into yours!

I have a lot of love to give and I am an active big boy who loves to play but I also like my snooze time in the sun. I am pretty clever and know some basic commands but I think it would be a fantastic bonding exercise if you have experience in teaching me more things!

I do want to be the best boy ever so I do need your help. I am getting really good at keeping my four paws on the floor and I sit really really well for treats and even for putting my lead on! I enjoy being indoors and outdoors so I need to have access to both plus good colourbond fencing to make sure I'm safe within my home and yard.

I need a home with no other dogs or pocket pets and an Adult only household with someone who will be home with me more often than not! If you think that you and I could be a good fit then please get in touch with my friends at the shelter on (02) 4782 2674 so you can come and say hi!
