The Greyhound Adoption Program QLD. Dedicated to rehoming greyhounds retired from the racing industry They also have a dental examination and treatment.

It is our mission to:
• Find suitable, loving, homes for retired racing greyhounds. Encourage a more positive image of the greyhound and stimulate the public’s desire to own a greyhound as a family pet.
• Assess greyhounds and prepare them for life as family pets.
• Provide ongoing advice and support to the greyhound and its new owners. Greyhounds adopted through the GAP are able to enjoy being in

public without muzzles. Every dog that enters the program is health and behaviourally assessed, desexed, wormed, microchipped, and vaccinated. The dogs then spend time with us at the GAP or with a foster carer to help them adjust to life in a pet home. We aim to expose the greyhound to a variety of situations of the type likely to be encountered once it becomes a pet. Foster carers also implement basic obedience training, such as basic house manners, and get the greyhound used to the type of routine that is normal for a family home. For an adoption fee of $100, GAP greyhounds are desexed, heartworm tested, receive a full dental assessment including a scale and polish, are vaccinated, microchipped, and they come to you with up-to-date flea, tick, and worming treatments. All GAP greyhounds receive lifetime registration with the Central Animal Records microchip registry. All GAP greyhounds are issued with a uniquely numbered green collar. PUPDATE: “Sassy and I have had the best holidays and hope you have too! Sassy is absolutely loving life and has settled in amazingly. She is now eating with no worries.

Here are a couple wonderful things Sassy has been up to:
🌊 Visiting the beach and lake as well as laying down at the water’s edge not even caring when the waves slap her.
🏖️ Playing on the beach with her much smaller friends.
🚗 Insisting on car rides every time we take her for a walk. She’ll walk up to the car door and be stubborn and hard to drag away.
💨 Playing in the huge backyard with our neighbour’s dog. Those two just run and play until Sass is exhausted. 😆
🦮 Met other greyhounds along the river and I got to watch them all be socially awkward, facing their butts to each other.
🦘 Watching the kangaroos in the backyard.
💞 And of course being the love of everyone’s life who she meets.

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY PENNY 🎈🎉

Penny, who is a sensitive soul, warmed up to her new hooman Maree in no time at all. She is now off for a quiet retirement full of lots of love and treats with her new fur-mily 💚.

Foster success - I've been adopted!

Johnny was recently adopted by his foster carers. They couldn’t imagine their lives without the big guy 🥰. He lives in an apartment, enjoys his leisurely strolls, outings to cafes and pubs and regular visits to his canine cousin’s house.

Now that most of us are heading back to work after the holiday season, our wonderful canine companions need to get used to being home alone again. Providing enrichment and mental stimulation is an important and easy way to ensure your dog remains happy and content and is the best prevention for boredom.

February is Responsible Pet Owners Month. Let's celebrate the love, care, and commitment that comes with being a greyhound owner. 🐕💖 Here are some tips to make the most of your role as a responsible greyhound paw-rent:

🦴 Nutrition: Feed a balanced diet suited for your greyhound's size and activity level. Their sleek frames need the right fuel.
🏃‍♂️ Exercise: Though sprinters by nature, greyhounds enjoy their downtime, and a lot of it. Daily walks and short play sessions keep them fit and happy.
🏠 Safety: Greyhounds are built for speed but not traffic! Always use a secure harness and leash on outings.
🛋️ Comfort: Greyhounds love a cozy place to nap. A soft bed (or two) is their dream come true.
👩‍⚕️ Health: Regular vet check-ups and vaccinations are vital. Don't forget dental care and flea/tick prevention.

PUPDATE: “Yogi is such a gentle giant and has such a quirky personality! He loves going in the car and having a hydrobath at Petstock, but most of all he loves collecting items – doesn’t chew them, just collects them like a giant bowerbird 😊 Shoes 👟, balls ⚽, toys 🧸, garden items 🪣, he loves moving them around the yard. He happily gives them back to you too, but will then go and move them again later. Yesterday we were gardening, planting new plants and Yogi was ‘helping’ us dig the holes and then fill them in with his nose – he was literally copying what we did. 😂

He is also going well with our cats – doesn’t show too much interest in them – the cats are super keen to get outside with him though, so we will keep working on the slow integration.

We are so grateful to GAP for making Yogi part of our family! Thank you!”

“5 years on the 24 January 2020 I met you and we all had time together.
5 years on the 28 January 2020 I brought you home.
Mark brought love, hope, happiness into our home 🫶
Mark, you have changed our lives. Bailey (fur-sibling) welcomed you and you both are happy to share and protect each other.

I couldn’t imagine my life without you, we have experienced and achieved so much together
💚 You have grown and flourished into such an amazing, caring, loving, confident, goofy at times boy, even though you were shy and timid at first.
💚 We also grew closer together and we shared complete trust and respect for each other.
💚 Our Neighbourhood is amazed and admires how you and Bailey just follow/ walk beside me while out walking, with occasional going off to check out a smell or to do your zoomies, then coming straight back to me.

Last week, our beautiful greyhounds made special visits to offices across Queensland in celebration of R U OK Day 🐕💛. They helped spread smiles and brightened people’s day, reminding everyone of the importance of checking in. Our Story

The Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) of Qld accepts healthy and happy greyhounds that have retired from racing. We also take pups and unraced greyhounds.

We aim to find forever homes for these dogs and to match the right dog to your family and lifestyle. All of our greyhounds are desexed, vaccinated, health checked and behaviourally assessed prior to adoption.
