✨Puppy Pre-School✨🐾 *swipe for a surprise*😂
Puppy School is starting up again for the year next week! Our wonderful program consists of 4 classes learning important basic training concepts, training for real-life scenarios and of course, puppy play!🐾 Each class also includes a ‘nurse chat’ with nurse Elia where you will learn about things like parasite prevention, toxic foods, nutrition and dental care for your pup🐶 Our in-person classes take place in our dedicated puppy room, with a maximum of 5 pups in a class, to ensure everyone gets individual assistance and attention🫶🏼 We care about you and the wellbeing of your pup and want to get you started off on the right foot! ✨JAXON, OUR STORY DOG✨ We have the honour of sponsoring this sweet boy as he does important work as part of the Story Dogs program! Story Dogs enables a child and a dog and their handler a weekly one-on-one reading session. Story Dogs volunteers are guided on working with children to go at the child’s pace and use the calming presence of the dog to support comprehension during each reading session. Story Dogs helps over 2820 children every week to become confident lifelong reader! We are so proud to sponsor Jaxon and his handler, Vivienne in the important work they do to help children with their reading and it was a pleasure to have them visit this week to meet the team and have a tour of our hospital, including the puppy pre-school room!📚💕🐾

🐱Feline Friendly🐱 Did you know we are a certified Fear Free clinic and International Society of Feline Medicine GOLD Accredited?🏆 We take our feline friendly handling very seriously! These are the things we do to help nervous cats like Kasatka👆🏼💕

🐱Have a cat waiting area away from main reception & dogs
🐱 Utilise synthetic calming pheromones on towels
🐱Minimise handling until necessary
🐱 Allow cats to stay in their carrier for their physical exam, where possible
🐱 Allow cats to acclimate to the space & the staff before beginning physical examination
🐱 Utilise yummy treats for positive association
🐱 Utilise feline friendly handling & gentle restraint such as towel wrapping (aka purrito)
🐱 Allow cats to roam around the consult room to sniff and explore as they please
🐱 All staff trained in feline body language and cat stress reduction techniques
🐱Offer anti-anxiety medication to give prior to vet visits, if required

Today, we said goodbye & good luck to Vivienne, the lovely vet student who has been doing work placement with us for the past 6 weeks, all the way from Germany!🇩🇪🥹🩺 We love having vet students join us and learn what makes our team and what we do at RVH so special. We’ll miss you, Viv! You’re going to make a wonderful vet🐾💕

✨Nurse Dani✨ Have you met Nurse Dani yet? She started with us back in September, bringing 13 years of veterinary nursing experience with her. She is like sunshine in human form and always keeps us positive and laughing, especially when she makes up songs for our patients😂🎶🎤. She loves building rapport with clients and patients and we love having her on the team💕
