Only 23 days after the first egg was laid... Probably a little earlier than expected given she laid 4 eggs. Normally once the hen starts incubating it's 24 days later but because we've had a lot of hot weather in the last few weeks the eggs obviously started developing quickly from day one! #hahnsmacaws #macawchicks #macawsaustralia #macaws #brisbane

It doesn't take too much work to get aviary bred birds to be calm and interactive. These parent reared birds are about 2 weeks out of the nest, all taking some treats from my hand, nice calm aviary birds. Having a teacher bird (in this case their parents) helps speed up the process as well but the key thing is spending time in the aviary with the birds using some basic positive reinforcement. These birds I have spent about 10mins whilst doing the morning food run in the aviary with them for the past week to get them to this point. #hahns #hahnsmacaws #aviculture

Solo is growing faster by the day... Today he grew a little too fast for my liking and starting to climb up the internal ladder! Won't be long before Solo does it for real and is flying around the aviary, exciting times at Brisbane Birds!
