After 13 years servicing the dogs of our local area, we are sad to advise that we will be closing permanently on Friday 23 December 2022 and will not return in 2023. We have come to this decision after a lot of careful thought and consideration.

Sadly after being bitten by a dog earlier this year, which required multiple surgeries, I have lost my interest and drive to work with dogs. I still love dogs and they are incredibly important to me, and it’s important to me that I continue to have a special relationship with them, especially my own. I fear if I continue working with dogs whilst being so scared of being bitten, that I won’t be able to maintain that special relationship any longer. Even though I’ve made great progress with my hand injury, it’s still estimated that it will take another 12 months until I am fully recovered and this makes grooming very difficult and at times painful. So I’ve decided to bring my dog grooming career to an end and pursue other opportunities.

Whilst we are obviously sad to say goodbye to everyone and all of your gorgeous dogs, we are excited for what the future will bring for all of us. For me personally, I have been studying part-time at university for the past 6 years, so I am excited to be able to use what I have been learning and put it into real world practice and continue finishing my studies. Our team have always been so wonderful and such a huge part of what we do, so we are looking forward to seeing what they do next in their journeys as well.

We are so grateful for all of you, our wonderful clients. We have really enjoyed getting to know you and your dogs throughout the last 13 years. It has been one of the greatest pleasures in our business to watch as your families have grown and changed throughout the years and you’ve welcomed more dogs into your lives. We have been so lucky to have so many wonderful clients during the years. So thank you to all of you, for your support and loyalty and kindness.

So thank you, and goodbye.

Our cancellation list has been crazy long for quite a while, but with some careful re-planning by our team and with a few cancellations, we’ve been able to almost completely clear our cancellation list for small dogs.
If you have a small dog and want it’s haircut at Barking Beauties before Christmas, please call our team on 0458 442 422 ASAP to be on the list. We are just waiting on a few call backs from a few people on the list and then we anticipate we’ll have a few appointments on offer.
Please remember it’s a first in first served basis, so the sooner you get on the list the better your chance of getting an appointment will be.

Our salon will be closed on Friday, 16 September as our team travel for a family members special milestone birthday.
We will also be closed on Thursday, 22 September following the announcement of a public holiday on this date for a national day of mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. We will contact clients who have an appointment on this day when we return to the salon this week.
We hope you have a wonderful week.

We’ve had a few people ask when we’ll start accepting bookings for 2023. We will open up dates in 2023 in December. Once the exact date is known we’ll post this up so everyone has the same access to it.
So if you’re finding that you can’t book for 2023, this doesn’t mean the site is broken, it’s just because we haven’t opened up the appointments as yet so we can assess staff availability and our groomers ability following her accident and make sure we are making bookings in accordance with this.
Thank you for thinking ahead and looking to get organised already though!!

**MAKE YOUR BOOKINGS FOR 2022 NOW!!!!**

With recent changes to our staffing and the continued limited physical ability of our head groomer, we are currently booked out until late November for full grooms. Bathing and hygiene appointments are available much sooner (call for these appointments).
We STRONGLY encourage our clients to make their appointments for the rest of 2022 now to avoid missing out completely! The rest of the appointments we have available will fill FAST!
You can book online (bookmy.pet/barkingbeauties) or call our team on 0458 442 422. For any bathing/hygiene appointments we recommend calling rather than booking online - you’re more likely to get an appointment sooner.

You’ve probably become aware that our head groomer was injured at work a little over 5 weeks ago. We wanted to provide an update on what’s been happening to keep everyone in the loop. So here’s a note from the groomer:

First up, a HUGE THANK YOU to those who have reached out with their well wishes. I’m so grateful.

About 5 weeks ago I was bitten at work. It seemed like any other bite (we get bitten a lot), but by the next morning it was clearly infected. I went to the GP, who advised me to go to hospital if the pain worsened. It did. I was admitted to hospital that night when it was clear to the staff that it was a very serious injury. The infection was in my tendon sheath. Over the next few days I received IV antibiotics and had two separate surgeries to clear out as much of the infection as possible. Since then I have been having several physiotherapy appointments each week to try to restore my hand to normal.
I still have issues with dexterity, lack of strength and limited movement. This is making life, and grooming very difficult. With my hands as my tools for work, it is limiting.
I returned to limited duties at work last week. It’s challenging to say the least. Our team are doing their very best to groom as many dogs as possible each day, but sadly some appointments each day will need to be cancelled while I work on getting back to full function.
We understand this is frustrating for all of you, and it is for us too, but especially me. I cannot help this situation and am doing everything I can. Please keep this is mind when speaking to myself or our team members. This situation is out of our control.
We apologise in advance to anyone whose appointments we have to cancel because of my limitations, please know it’s not fun for me either.
Thank you for sticking by me through this!!

We will be closed on Thursday 11 August, Friday 12 August and Saturday 13 August as we do not have a groomer available due to our head groomer still being out with an injury sustained from a dog bite.

We hope to be able to re-open on Tuesday 16 August 🤞🏻

Thank you so much to all of you, our lovely customers for your concern for our head groomer during this very trying time. We appreciate it more than words can say.

Over the coming week or so, we will be forced to cancel some of our appointments.

Unfortunately on Wednesday afternoon, our head groomer was bitten by a dog which has resulted in a severe infection, hospitalisation and multiple surgeries.

Obviously this is a less than ideal situation for everyone involved. We are so sorry for the inconvenience that this will cause to our customers. Please know that we will work to reschedule appointments as soon as we can, however, much of this will depend on recovery.

We thank everyone in advance for their understanding of this situation which is fully out of our control. We appreciate those of you who have treated our team with kindness and understanding!

Please remember that our team are not to be blamed and that rudeness to our team will not be tolerated. (Yes, we have had people be rude to our staff who have explained the situation and been forced to cancel appointments and this is incredibly upsetting).

Again, thank you for your understanding in this difficult matter. The overwhelming kindness and understanding of the majority of our customers is really appreciated!

We will continue to update you as we have more information.

DON’T FORGET TO BRUSH YOUR DOG!

Part 2

A few things to remember to help you deal with matting:
*The best way to prevent matting is to have your dogs hair cut regularly (yes, even in Winter), every 6-8 weeks is the ideal amount of time, and brush your dog properly all year round. For some great tutorial videos on brushing, try looking up “line brushing” - incredibly useful for brushing and maintaining a longer fur.
*Only put a jacket or coat on them if they are shaved short, otherwise the friction of the jacket moving can cause more matting. Usually if your dog has longer fur (more than about 1.5-2cm), they won’t need a jacket most of the time anyway (especially if they are inside with you), so use it sparingly and remember to brush them really really well as soon as you take it off, and don’t leave it on all day and night this is pretty much guaranteed to make the dog matted.
*Never cut a mat out of your dogs fur yourself with scissors (you might cut your dog!).
*There will be surcharges for shaving matted dogs due to the additional time and care that is required for this delicate situation.

REMEMBER: We can only work with the fur that you bring us. We don’t want to shave dogs short if this isn’t what the owner wants. This usually leads to unhappy customers which is something we don’t want, we don’t like having to deal with upset customers or having to cop abuse from people because they didn’t want their dogs fur shaved short. We’d much rather everyone gets the clip they want and goes home happy.

To book an appointment, please check out our website or call our team on 0458 432 422.

DON’T FORGET TO BRUSH YOUR DOG!

Part 1

We know that many of our customers don’t like to have their dogs hair cut in Winter for fear of them being cold. Whilst we DO NOT recommend doing this, if you choose not to have your dog groomed for the cooler months, then you must brush your dog every 1-2 days and brush ALLLLLL the way down to the skin to keep them from getting matted. Letting your dogs fur become matted does nothing to help anyone - but especially not your furry little friend. It can impede regular air circulation to your dogs skin, bruising and discolour of the skin, open up sores and rips, become a breeding ground for fleas and parasites, make your dog stinky, cause skin irritations and a raft of other issues for your dog.

The other problem with allowing your dog to become matted is that their fur will need to be shaved incredibly short to get rid of the mats that have formed. There is no other way around this. You can’t clip through the middle of a mat, but have to shave under it instead. Think of it like a dreadlock. You can’t simply just brush it out (without a lot of pain being caused) or trim it shorter and expect that it’ll be gone. You have to cut it right back short, underneath it for it to go. It’s the same with a matted dog.

Part 2 of the post coming up next.
