Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) is a not for profit initiative coordinated by Greyhound Racing NSW They don't need a big yard (or a yard at all).

Greyhounds make fantastic pets for families, working people and the elderly. Greyhounds are: Gentle, Affectionate, Clean, Quiet, Good with other dogs (some also love cats), LOW maintenance and Long lived. They will walk well on a lead and require only 15-20 minutes exercise 1-2 times daily (just like a normal pooch). They rarely shed and have a short coat.

Say Hi to Our Latest Love ❤️ | Jonah 5 yrs 🐾

This beautiful boy is new to our Western Sydney Adoption Facility and is suited to living with cats 🐱 And dogs of all sizes 🐕

Jonah is an independent, happy boy, content to spend the day by himself, making him ideal for full-time workers! 💼 ✅

He previously lived with another greyhound in his foster home, and they got on very well! 🐾

Foster care Friyay 🎉 | Louie, Sydney & Ursula.

✨ Four-week update on Louie (7 yrs) who’s being cared for by sisters Sydney and Ursula. It’s safe to say they’re falling for Louie’s charms! 😍✨

“We’re so proud of the progress he’s made and how smart he has shown us to be. Figuring out how doors work, and picking up simple commands. 👏

Louie is a morning dog who likes to be cuddled before his exercise and then likes to lounge and follow you around until dinner time.

He’s always excited by food indoors, even prancing, and after dinner he would like nothing more than to sleep. Throughout the day he might come up for pets and cuddles but generally enjoys being by himself or cuddling with his teddy 🧸

He has also made a friend. 🐾 A friend of ours owns a Great Dane around the same age and Louie is very calm walking with her. That said, the Great Dane is a lot more excited to see Louie (than Louie is to see her)!

We really love Louie very much, and we are really invested in all his progress. 👏❤️ -Ursula & Sydney, Westmead, NSW

🐾 Happy Adopter Tails | Betty, Axle, Monica & Paul 🐾

“Betty, the gentle greyhound, has found her forever home with us and our energetic young staffy, Axle. The bond between the adopted siblings grew steadily. Axle’s lively nature encouraged Betty to embrace playtime, and Betty’s calm demeanor has helped Axle to learn how to chill out his enthusiasm at home. Now they enjoy their walks together and spend time racing around the yard. Adopting Betty was a great decision. She’s filled my home with love, laughter, and wagging tails!”

🐾 Our team has wasted no time in setting the date for the first Greyhound Adoption Event of 2025! 🐾

Regional towns are special places for our community events, and first up this year, the GAP team will be bringing joy to the Central West of NSW in Lithgow on Saturday, January 25th. 🗓️

Many pet ready greyhounds, will be eagerly waiting at Pets Domain, Lithgow, from 10 AM to 2 PM for their delighted new adopters to take them home. 🏡

People are always shocked that I have him in an apartment because he is so big, but honestly, I can’t imagine having a little energetic dog indoors.
