Young Bentley and his brother have been attacked TWICE by off leash dogs in the last 6 months. Now they are frightened and on edge all the time whenever they go for a walk. This has made it a nightmare for their folks. Their whole life has changed.

Unfortunately this is happening far too regularly.

When a dog has been frightened at a deep level by another dog, it is left with deep emotional trauma. The deeper the trauma, the longer the recovery process. Which is never an overnight fix. We need to work with the emotional state of the dog and build his trust and confidence up slowly. Some dogs will never recover 100%, even with the help of a professional trainer.

Today was our second session with Bentley. Astro the Golden Child always puts his paw up for helping with training dogs. Today his job was just to sit in the car while we worked on Bentley's loose leash walking and impulse control.

Just the smell of Aatro was enough to send Bentley in a bit of a tiz. But by the time he worked out that Astro was in the car, we had built up quite a bit of value with his mum Brenda, through using rewards. We had a couple of barks but within a short period Bentley was able to process that Aatro was there in a calm manner and not be overly concerned.

Good job Brenda. I'm really looking forward to working further with Be they and Pumba with their reactivity (and so is Astro)

NEW TEAM MEMBER REQUIRED

At Cherokees, we pride ourselves on using modern motivational techniques in building beautiful relationships between our clients and their dogs.

We are currently looking for a new awesome person to join our fun and friendly team.

This is an exciting position that will give the right person a great step up in their dog training career. Over the years, we have given trainers the skills and knowledge to open their own dog training businesses and facilities and also train with one of Australia's most prestigious training facilities.

Requirements:

- able to commit to Saturday morning classes in Drouin
- have experience in dog training
- be passionate about building beautiful relationships between clients and their dogs
- be open to learning
- have the confidence to speak to a group.

A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to Doug and Eric yesterday for being awarded pur Achievement Award for 2024.

Doug has been training with Cherokees for 18 months now and his commitment to Eric's education has really paid off.

Currently training in our Intermediate Level, I'm excited to see even more improvements in 2025.

I'm loving Teddy's progress with his reactivity in our SILVER Class Program. Well Helen and Bruce 😁

After playing on the confidence building equipment, our puppies had some chill time in the shade. It was a perfect way to finish the class. Teaching our puppies how to relax around other dogs is vital for their development. Our aim for our dogs should be to be able to ignore other dogs and feel like we are more important in their environment. At Cherokees we are passionate about preparing our puppies for real life situations, in their future. Something that is really important is to handle them well. Teaching a puppy to be calm when they are restrained and to also follow pressure and not resist, can set them up for success in all sorts of situations, especially the vet and groomer. Since Sophie was 9 weeks old, she has regularly been well handled by myself and my trainers. She has also been visiting my groomer regularly. Westies are notorious for not liking their feet being handled. So it was my job to prepare her well. It's not the groomers or the Vets jobs to train our dogs. It's 100% our responsibility. As you can see, Sophie is very calm and confident during her session. Since Astro has been on the curcumin drops, he has had a new lease on life. So much more energy and he's so happy! If you are wanting to help your dog naturally with their inflammation, I can absolutely recommend them! I have my westie on them for allergies as well.
