We often hear that native predators prey on our koalas, and this is used as justification for baiting those species. But is it true?

With the new science of eDNA, we can analyse droppings from animals in koala habitats and see just which animals are preying on this beloved marsupial.

And it's not the ones you'd expect 🤔

The Dingo is an extremely sentient species‼️
Who has a free and natural spirit with fine tuned instincts and are incredibly sensitive; noble and aloof, dignified and graceful, quiet and reflective; independent; an animal of tremendous loyalty and compassion for members of their family group. Dingoes are the most intriguing native Australian.

Perhaps it's time to really try more to better understand the Dingo....🙏🐾🐾 Don't you think❗️

We often use "animalistic" as a synonym for brutal or cruel, yet....many animals act on instinct, driven by survival needs like hunting, defense, or mating. Their actions, even when violent, are often not motivated by malice or a desire to inflict suffering for its own sake.
Dingoes kill to eat, not out of cruelty.

Humans, on the other hand, possess a complex moral compass, self-awareness, and the capacity for abstract thought. This allows us to make conscious choices, including choices to inflict pain and suffering.
Cruelty in humans often arises from factors like beliefs that justify violence against certain groups.
The desire to dominate and control others.
Mental illness, trauma, or learned behaviors.

Using "animal" to describe human cruelty is often a way to distance ourselves from such behavior, to make it seem "other" than human. It can also be a way to dehumanise the victims of cruelty, implying they are less than human and therefore less deserving of compassion. It is a logical fallacy, because humans are animals. So to say that a human is acting like an animal, is redundant.
The very capacity for deliberate cruelty, for inflicting pain for its own sake, might be considered a uniquely human trait.

Landowners have no reasons to use lethal control anymore❗️
Take a look at this Australian-specific 'Predator Smart Farming' Guide/Handbook, produced by Louise Boronyak and EvanQuartermain. This is an exciting step forward for coexistence with Dingoes 👇🐾🐾

Let's talk about how baiting, trapping and shooting Dingoes causes so much instability to our ecosystems❗️

Poisoning of Dingoes Is counter - productive for biodiversity conservation because it results in increases in fox and feral cat activity and declines of small ground-dwelling native mammals.
Dingoes should not be poisoned full stop, if we want to halt the loss of mammal biodiversity in our country. It's a no brainer❗️ 😜

Across our country, a healthy relationship exists between Dingoes and herbivores. Dingoes regulate native herbivores such as macropods and exotic herbivores such as rabbits, feral pigs and goats by removing sick or diseased animals and stabalising numbers. For example, kangaroos and emus tend to be less abundant where Dingoes are common.

Mounting evidence suggests that many mammal extinctions across Australia are traced back to persecution of Dingoes by humans.
Dingoes are a keystone species in virtually all ecosystems. The loss of a top order predator triggers a cascade of extinctions through a process known as mesopredator release. Essentially this means the number of medium-sized predators increase in the absence of larger predators.
Plenty of scientists have discovered a negative relationship between Dingo abundance and the number of cats and foxes in given areas.
That is, wherever they co-occur, Dingoes suppress the effects of introduced predators such as foxes and cats on native fauna.

Species such as native rodents, bilbies, quolls, and rufous hare-wallabies suffer local extinctions where no Dingoes are present, since foxes and feral cats quickly populate the area. Thus, maintaining and, where possible, leaving Dingoes to reestablish their populations is an important strategy in conserving vulnerable native species....

The fact is that Dingo impacts on stock are overstated and government reactions are excessive❗️
When Dingo groups are fractured, natural behaviours are impacted and feeding becomes more opportunistic.
We must Let Dingoes Live‼️🐾🐾
