We developed H**pPet because our furbabies are more than pets - they are much loved family members and we simply wanted a better, natural alternative to traditional diet supplements for our pets.
The H**pPet journey started in 2016, when Arthur and Sandra’s beloved 6-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier, Bella was diagnosed with a type of skin cancer (Cutaneous epitheliotropic lymphoma) which results in tumours forming on the dog’s skin, which become bloody and don’t heal. It’s a deadly disease, with traditional cancer treatments (radiation / chemotherapy) having very limited effect and animals with this cancer have to be euthanised, due to the skin becoming unmanageable. Bella was given 2-3 months to live.
It was April 2016 and at the same time as they received the news about Bella, a very close family friend was in final stages of breast cancer. In Australia at that time, Medicinal Cannabis was about to become legalised for humans and already many people were treating various conditions with Cannabis, including their friend, who was using oil. She gave them a bottle of the oil and asked them if they wanted to try it on Bella.
They sought the advice of another friend, a well very well-respected veterinary surgeon, before giving it to the dog. The vet agreed to try it - there was nothing to lose, Bella’s skin condition was worsening every day. They gave Bella the oil, mixed with coconut oil in gelatine capsules orally and applied the oil directly on the skin. They also ensured that Bella’s diet was fully organic and rich in nutrients and natural supplements.
Within a few weeks, after starting this treatment the tumours stopped growing, within 2-3 months, they were drying out and falling off. It was nothing short of a miracle, even though the diagnosis was terminal, Bella not only exceeded her life expectancy, she began to get better! Bella’s treating vet was amazed by her recovery and she was getting better every day.
In October 2016, Medicinal Cannabis became legal in Australia for humans to access, but there was no pathway for vets to prescribe the medicine to animals and by April 2017 the supply of oil they were using for Bella was no longer available and after 12 months they had to stop the treatment. The cancer came back, the tumours reappeared and on 23rd of November 2017 Bella lost her battle with the disease. In the same month H**p became legal for human consumption and h**pseed products became available to purchase.

H**p oil was recognised as a true superfood with an array of nutrients that are vital to health. H**p was growing in popularity as a supplement for humans … and animals needed it too! That’s how the idea for H**pPet came to live – as Bella’s legacy.
